Expert Review of Suzuki Hayate Electric Start
Suzuki is trying to enhance its market position in the Indian market. When the market of entry-level segments of bikes is totally loaded, the company has rolled out yet another 110cc motorbike. The bike sports average looks, considerable power, both of which available at quite an affordable price. This bike will be fighting for the companies pride against Honda Dream Neo, Honda Dream Yuga, Honda CB Twister, Hero Motocorp Passion X Pro, Bajaj Discover DTSI 110, etc., which fall in the same category the company's offering. The bike by Suzuki is called as Hayate, it has an incorporation of a 112.8cc, 4-stroke, SOHC engine producing the maximum power of 8.3BHP at 7500RPM. The company has offered a few variants of this model, all variants differing on the basis of their starting systems. Suzuki Hayate Drum starts with the help of a kick while the other one, Suzuki Hayate Electric Start has the feature of electric start which is stated from the name itself. Some of the features of the commuter are aluminum cast wheels, strong and slim engine design, edgy tail light, unique front fender and effective fuel tank capacity. The fuel economy of the bike is a plus point for its survival in the market, as this segment is concerned more about the mileage delivery than the power and torque creation by the engine. The bike quite low on maintenance post-purchase and also the features that have been put in the bike are appropriate according to its low price.
Mileage and Fuel Economy
Suzuki claims a first class mileage of 71kmpl with Suzuki Hayate Electric Start. The fuel consumption of the bike is very less. There is a VM17 carburettor equipped to the engine. The fuel tank storage within the bike is 8 liters including 2 liters of reserve. To quench the queries of those whose primary concern is about fuel efficiency, which invloves all of us, the bike can travel 568 kilometers per 8 liters. The company claims an average of 65-70kmpl, which is not absolutely true. Suzuki Hayate Electric Start gives an average of around 51.9kmpl while driving within a city, while an average of around 53.3kmpl is returned while riding on a highway. Hayate carries just an 8-liter fuel tank, which is definitely not enough for long distance commutes, making it a negative point in an overall smart two-wheeler.
The lightweight commuter segment Hayate comes in a few exciting colors with stylish graphics. The colors that the bike is available in are Metallic Lush Green, Glass Sparkle Black, Metallic Flint Grey, Pearl Mirage White and Pearl Mira Red.
Acceleration and Pick up

The engine is still capable enough to produce the utmost power output of 8.3BHP caught at an acceleration point of 7500RPM with the topmost torque value of 8.8Nm caught at an acceleration point of 5500RPM. The bike is quick enough to speed up from 0 to 60kmph in just 8 seconds. Though the top speed mark will not be more than 100kmph.
The fuel efficient bike has normal looks but the graphics and several colors makes it look pretty good. The sporty front cowl makes it look something better than an average commuter bike. The stylishly designed fuel tank inspired from its former bike Suzuki GS 150R enhances its smartness. The all black theme given to the bike matches all the shades in which it is available in the market. The sleak black muffler suits the slim design of the bike. The long continuous seat for both, the rider and the pillion rider is very comfortable and soft. There is a triangular shaped tail light with the indicators without LED. The front fender of the bike is different but catchy. The instrument cluster of the bike is not an advanced one, its a basic analogue type having a speedometer, odometer, fuel gauge without a trip meter and tachometer. The five spoke black alloy wheels looks like a star on the narrow tyres of the bike. The see saw style gear system is presented to the bike. The integrated grab rails to the seat gives a nice hold to the pillion rider. The handlebars are uplifted for a trendy look and gives a comfortable handing too. The rear view mirrors are distant enough to give a proper view of the vehicles coming from the behind. Contrary to its name, Suzuki Hayate electric start reflects no freshness in its looks. It looks almost similar to its predecessor Suzuki Slingshot. Suzuki has used an all-black theme like Slingshot with silencer, engine, alloy wheels and side panels painted black. The fish themed headlight looks impressive. The round headlight has gills on the sides. The tail light and grab rail is quite similar to Honda Shine but looks elegant. It has an all-analog instrument panel with analog speedometer, odometer and fuel gauge with other indicators of high beam and turn indicators placed around. Blue and white instrument cluster looks sporty but the instrument console lacks pass button. Overall, the bike looks simple and sober with no over the top attempt to make the bike look sporty or mean.
Suzuki Hayate Electric Start has an amazing mileage making the rider tension free while on long rides. The single, smooth and perfectly cushioned seat for the riders gives them a good comfort and keeps the rider pain free. The see saw type gear shifter makes it easy for the rider to shift the gear. The lightweight of the bike does not gives the rider a stressful journey. The suspensions of the vehicle surpass all the hurdles of the roads. The handlebars placed a bit up-front gives a perfect riding position and the rider can easily run the bike to longer distance. The push start increases the ease of the rider and keeps the journey comfortable. As soon as you notice the brand name ‘Suzuki’, you know there won’t be any complaint regarding comfort. Comfort is optimum while driving Hayate. Its offers low seating position with comfortable seat. It has a perfectly placed handlebar and perfectly placed foot pegs. The blue and white instrument panel is one of the easiest to read and well-lit. The widespread headlights are quite useful at night.
The slim and stylish two-wheeler has the overall length of 2030mm, width 720mm and height 1070mm; wheelbase measuring 1260mm and 165mm of ground clearance; kerb mass gained by the slim commuter is 112kg only. The 4-speed gearbox presents all-down shift pattern.
The tyres of Hayate can be a disadvantage as they are not wide. The size of the front tyre is 2.75-17 41P while of the rear tyre is 3.00-17 50P and both are equipped to the five spoke alloy wheels. These alloy wheels comes equipped with the mechanical, leading-trailing drum type brakes. To keep the price low, these are not tubeless tyres.
Suspensions equipped to the bike are comfortable and sound. The front suspension equipped to the front wheel is Telescopic, Coil Spring, Oil Damped while the rear suspension equipped to the rear end is Swing Arm, Coil Spring, Oil Damped.
Handling and Control
The bike has a lightweight, strong and reliable structure which makes it easily controllable. The handlebars of the bike increases the handiness of the bike. The suspensions of the bike makes it run smoothly and gives a nice control over it. The brakes of the bike are responsive which deals with the upcoming speed breakers.
Strong and durable structure, Reasonable Price, Cool colors availability, better looks.
Tyres are not wide, brakes could have been better, there could have been a few more features.
Suzuki Hayate Electric Start Description
Considering the huge popularity of its cars and sports bikes, Suzuki decided to step into the entry-level market of Indian two-wheeler industry with its latest launch Suzuki Hayate Electric Start. Launched on 10 May 2012, the bike was first unveiled to the buyers at the Auto Expo. Since then, television was flooded by all the glittering commercials of the maiden entry-level bike of Suzuki. Hayate is a Japanese word for fresh breeze, and with all the new features offered in the bike, the commuter segment might see some freshness. Bajaj’s Discover has been a name on the lips of everyone since a very long time, and this debutant might mark the beginning of a new era. Suzuki Hayate Electric Start is somewhat a successor of Suzuki Slingshot. The all-black theme does look good and headlight is the only area with an actual ‘freshness’. It has a blue and white all-analog instrument cluster, which looks somewhat sporty. Overall the bike looks simple and subtle in looks and for a commuter, it is not bad. Suzuki Hayate Electric Start is available in five different shades- Pearl mirage white, Metallic lush green, Pearl mica red, GL sparkle black and Metallic flint grey. The bike gives an average of around 53 kilometer per liter, which is quite less as compared to other bikes of this segment. The company claims an average of 65-70 liters, which is absolutely false. The bike has an overall length, width and height of 2030, 720, and 1070mm, respectively, which is quite standard for Indian traffic. It offers a ground clearance of 165mm and weighs a mere 112kg. Suzuki Hayate Electric Start is loaded with a 112.8cc, 4-stroke SOHC engine. It is a mono-cylinder, air-cooled engine. The engine generates a maximum power of 8.3BHP at 7500RPM and a maximum torque of 8.4Nm at 5500RPM. Considering the segment, we never thought of Hayate as a performer, but it shocked each and every one of us. The 4-speed gearbox is in an all-down pattern, but the fifth gear is surely missed. It can reach 0-60kmph in about 8.2 seconds and has a top speed of around 82kmph. A perfectly placed handlebar, wide and comfortable seat, and perfect riding posture is all what you expect from the brand name Suzuki. The bike lacks disc brakes but the handling and control of the bike compensates for everything missing.
