Due to its special design there are little chances of dust accumulating while you change lens and hence reduce deteriorating image quality. The body feels secure and solid when you hold it out. The controls are placed where traditionally they should be but are a bit small, if you have big hands, you might come across them as that. The mode dial is easy to navigate through and with the accessible dedicated buttons, it is easy to access the most commonly used functions making it rather very beginner friendly. Lens and Image Stabilization
Probably, the most important part of the device is the lens that mounts on it, and is also the most expensive part. In this review, the lens mount discussed is Canon EF-S 18-55mm, well this lens mount is mostly or maybe totally plastic exception is the glass mounted on it. There are quite too many advantages of this construction like loss of unnecessary weight brought along with the lens, and obviously the reduction of cost. The meagre manual focusing ring is scarcely usable and is located on the end of the expansion objective end of the lens. There is no USM focusing motor in Canon EF-S 18-55mm which means there is no FTM focusing. Even without USM, Focussing of this device is not slow or loud. This lens is certainly not the most epic lens ever made by Canon but is just fine for its targeted audience.
Screen and Menus
Comprising of a 3-inch, 3:2 aspect ratio TFT color liquid crystal screen with 1,040,000 dot pixels, Canon EOS 550 D stands out for it’s beautiful and clear screen. The screen in dual action is anti-reflection and anti smudge. Can also zoom to 10X while playback. The viewfinder for this one is however a tad small, which makes manual focusing difficult but the live view implementation helps. The Pentamirror viewfinder does cover 95% of the frame capable 0.87x magnification. Lastly, shifting to live view mode you can use the real time visuals to shoot from difficult angles.
The camera can take up to 4 GB of continuous video or shots. It supports SD/SDHC/SDXC cards coupled with a lithium ion LP-E8 rechargeable battery. It can record for 26 minutes and 59 seconds or take 440 shots. The strength is good for days of shooting, something enthusiasts will appreciate.

By an easy switch of the mode dial to instant movie recording you can start/stop making videos.
