Overall Review

Honda Cars India limited has introduced the diesel version of its premium sedan, Honda City in the country. This diesel sedan comes in five variant levels out of which, the Honda City i DTec E is the entry level variant. The manufacturer refreshed the both exteriors and interiors of this sedan in order to obtain a refreshing new look. One of the most significant aspects about this sedan is its 1.5-litre, i-DTEC diesel engine that comes with an ability to deliver a staggering mileage of 26 Kmpl, which is unbelievable for its class. This engine is not just the most fuel efficientm, but also one of the powerful engines of its class with an ability to produce 98Bhp of peak power at 3600rpm while yielding 200Nm of peak torque at just 1750rpm. The manufacturer is offering this sedan with several advanced safety functions as standard such as anti lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution system, wave key function, driver air bag along with an advanced engine immobilizer system. With such enthralling aspects, the new Honda City Diesel is going to give a tough competition in the sedan segment of India.

Mileage and Fuel Economy

One of the highlights of the all new Honda City Diesel is its ability to deliver a class leading mileage. It is equipped with a 4-cylinder, 1.5-litre, I-DTEC diesel motor that is integrated with direct fuel injection system. The manufacturer claims that the vehicle can give a minimum 20 Kmpl of mileage in city traffic while returning 26 Kmpl of maximum mileage on highways.

Colors

HCIL is currently offering this premium sedan in a total of three color options for the car enthusiasts to choose from. It includes a vibrant looking Camelian Red Pearl, a subtle looking Urban Titanium Metallic paint and a decent looking Alabaster Silver Metallic.

Acceleration and Pick up

This entry level variant is powered by a 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel power plant that is coupled with a high performance 6-speed manual transmission gearbox. This engine allows the vehicle to obtain a top speed of about 175 Kmph, while reaching the 100 Kmph speed mark in just about 12.5 seconds.

Appearance

The new Honda City Diesel received impressive cosmetic updates with striking new design that brought a modern look to the four wheeler. This sedan is blessed with a newly designed headlight cluster along with a striking new radiator grille with a company logo fitted in the center. The most impressive aspect about the front profile is the unique sporty design bumper that adds to the alluring look of the sedan. The sides of this sedan also received the updates that adds to the modern look of the vehicle. You can notice two expressive lines passing through the doors towards the taillight cluster, which make it look sleek from the sides. The ORVM caps along with the door handles have been painted with body color garnish whereas the B-pillar window sills have been coated with black. When it comes to the rear end, this sedan gets a major updates with refreshing new taillight cluster, boot lid and a slightly tweaked bumper. The taillight cluster is very sleek and it is complimented by the chrome garnished strip on the boot lid. The overall new look of the Honda City diesel sedan is something that represents the class leading body fit and finish in the automobile segment.

Comfort Feature

This entry level variant in the Honda City model series is being blessed with a set of standard comfort features better than other base level sedans in the segment. This base variant comes with an advanced power steering system with tilt adjustable function, all four power windows with one touch operation on driver side, a proficient manual air conditioning unit, electrically adjustable ORVMs and many other such features. The company is also offering this entry level trim with features like interior rear view mirrors, central locking system, ECO lamp, cup holders, bottle holders, front power outlet and various other utility based functions.

Dimensions

The diesel version of Honda City comes with 4440mm of total length, 1695mm of total height and 1495mm of decent height. The wheelbase of this sedan is about 2600mm, which is quite large and it creates a lot of leg room space inside the cabin.

Engine

When it comes to the technicalities, the Honda City diesel variant is equipped with an advanced 1.5-litre, i-DTec diesel engine that comes with best in class fuel efficiency. This engine is designed with 4-cylinders, 16-valves and incorporated with direct injection fuel supply system, which will enable the motor to deliver a flawless performance. This engine, having a displacement capacity of about 1498cc, can produce a peak power output of about 98bhp 3600rpm while generating a peak torque output of about 200Nm at just 1750rpm. This commanding torque output is distributed to the front wheels of the sedan via a 6-speed manual transmission gearbox.

Wheels

The Honda City i DTec E is the base level variant and its wheel arches have been fitted with a set of conventional steel wheels of size 15 inch. These steel wheels have been covered with a set of high performance tubeless radial tyres of size 175/65 R15 that can tackle even with rugged roads.

Suspension

The company hasn't compromised on the suspension mechanism of this premium sedan in order to give a boost to the stability of this sedan. The front axle comes fitted with McPherson strut type of suspension system with stabilizer bar along with coil springs, while its rear axle is being assembled with torsion beam type of suspension mechanism loaded with coil springs and stabilizer bar.

Handling and Control

The diesel version of Honda City comes with a highly proficient braking aspects in the form of disc and drum brakes. The company fitted the front wheels of this sedan with a pair of disc brakes, whereas its rear wheels have been assembled with a set of drum brakes. The company is offering this base variant with Anti-lock braking system along with electronic brake-force distribution system as standard. On the other hand, its power assisted steering system is precise in offering response to the driver and makes it simple in heavy traffic.
