Expert Review of Maruti Ertiga
A compact MPV with the features & attributes of a sedan, that’s how Maruti Ertiga can be accurately described. The new born Maruti Ertiga produced after careful R&D by Suzuki and having the low maintenance and value for money traits of Maruti, is here to sweep the MPV segment off its feet. Ertiga has hit the markets with its 3 petrol and 3 diesel variants.
The 1.4litre 1372cc K series petrol engine, powers Maruti’s MPV or better known as LUV (Life Utility Vehicle). This ensures a max power of 95 Ps at 6000rpm and a maximum torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm along with what Maruti is best known for-fuel efficiency. The other power house i.e. DDiS super Turbo 1.3 litre 1248 cc diesel engine is similar to the Maruti SX4. It produces 90 Ps at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm torque at 1750 rpm. The certified fuel efficiency is 16.02 kmpl for the petrol variant and zooming 20.77 kmpl for the diesel variant. The engine has a 5-speed manual transmission system.
Ertiga, 4265mm in length and 2740 mm wheelbase proves efficient in terms of interior spacing as well. Two airbags, twin AC with climate control, 3 spoke tilt-power steering with mounted controls, power windows with auto down, central locking, audio system that is USB Compatible, 4+2 speakers, multi information display, keyless entry, etc adorns the latest creation of the Maruti Suzuki family.

Mileage and Fuel Economy
The fuel efficient and low carbon emitting K-series engine of the Maruti MPV abides by the latest BS-IV emissions. Even though one can truly comment on the mileage only after one sits behind the wheel, the official figures state that the petrol Maruti Ertiga delivers a mileage of 16.02 kmpl and one can expect a spectacular 20.77 kmpl from the diesel engine. Maruti, for decades haven’t disappointed the consumers in terms of mileage and the case of Ertiga is no different.
One would be able to zip around in the all new Maruti Ertiga flashing one of the 7 colors that it is available in. One would be able to choose from Firebrick Red, Serene Blue, Silky Silver, Superior White, Granite Grey, Acru Beige and Dusky Brown, to zoom around in the city and adorn one’s driveway.
Acceleration and Pick up
With the 5-speed manual gearbox one able to accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 15 seconds for petrol and 15.5 seconds for diesel Ertiga. The top speed of this car is 155kmph. So, we can rightly put it as, Maruti Ertiga is going to prove right for those family men who wish to break the bondages and be young sometimes.
Maruti Ertiga is said to have taken the looks from its older sibling of the same family, Maruti Ritz. With elongated wheelbase of 2740mm and being a little taller than the Ritz, the dimensions are similar to the Innova except that it is shorter in length.
The lower end models compromise a little on the body color outside mirror and the body color door handles, but all for a good cause, which is reducing the costs as much as possible.
As always Maruti has designed the vehicle keeping a typical Indian in mind, making Ertiga a suitable fit for the young dynamic confident Indian who wants to hold back individuality and yet retain Indian custom of ‘togetherness’
With looks taken from one family member the interior are inspired from the other member, Maruti Swift. The beige interiors, seating for 7(2+3+2), split design in the centre for easy movement from middle to last row, roof mounted AC vents, large boot etc. make Ertiga cool and classy. The 3 spoke tilt adjustable electric steering wheel, 5 speed manual gearbox, power windows with electrically adjustable mirror add comfort to the drive. Whereas the Audio controls mounted on the steering, powerful 4+2 speakers and USB compatibility makes sure that the MPV allows the passengers to enjoy every ride
The width comes out to be 1965mm and height of the MPV is 1685 mm whereas it has a length of 4265 mm. With a wheelbase of 2740mm and a turning radius of 5.2m, Ertiga is sure to make city drives more comfortable and highway drives more pleasurable.
Ertiga has reached the market with 1.3litre multi-jet turbo Diesel engine with DDiS and 1.4litre of the latest K series petrol engine with VVT. The engines are compatible with the new generation BS IV emission norms. The VVT technology guarantees better engine performance, optimum fuel consumption and producing lesser CO2 emissions helping Ertiga perform with excellence.
The petrol engine with variable valve timing (VVT) delivers a maximum power of 95 Ps and a torque of 130 Nm and the diesel engine is capable of 90 Ps of max power with 200 Nm of torque.
Like mentioned already, Maruti Ertiga is suitable for every purpose, be it rush-hour driving, midnight spins or long drives on highway. The splendid 15 inches of alloy wheels make the car look sporty, the ground clearance helps with smoother drive and thereby making it comfortable for the Indian roads. The wheels and ground clearance of 185 mm helps the vehicle zip zap zoom and give a comfortable drive to the family.
The MacPherson strut at the front and the torsion beam at the rear help Ertiga score well in terms of the suspension as well. The impressive suspension gives the passengers a comfortable city ride since it absorbs the undulations even better than the Swift.
Handling and Control
Since it belongs to the Maruti family which has icons like Ritz and Swift, the manufacturers made sure that Ertiga is top-notch in every strata because it would be compared with the members of the same family who have done pretty well in their segments. Ertiga comes loaded with range of standard features like two airbags, one for driver and the other one for co-passenger, Antilock Braking System (ABS) with EBD and brake assist to allow right braking balance between the rear and front axle, engine immobilizer and high tensile roof.
