Tata Motors first launched their charming Tata Nano, which is also known as the World’s cheapest car in March 2009 and since then it took no time in becoming one of the most loved and appreciated car amongst the Indian consumers. Taking about the engine of the car, new Tata Nano comes with powerful petrol engine with a displacement of 624cc. The engine churns out a good amount of 37.5bhp of power along with 51Nm of torque. Tata Motors have worked extra hard to boost up the mileage, which in turn ensures that new Tata Nano has the lowest carbon dioxide emission when compared to other cars in the Indian market. Moreover, the homegrown automajor has also launched the Tata Nano CNG trim with a peppy and energetic 624cc petrol + CNG based engine. The engine has been equipped with two cylinders and it also sports a highly acclaimed MPFI (multi-point fuel injection) supply system, which further improves the mileage. While in the petrol mode, the vehicle develops a 37.5bhp, in CNG mode, the new Nano produces 32bhp at 5500rpm and a maximum torque of 45Nm at 3500rpm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed (4 forward and 1 reverse) manual gear box transmission. Moving ahead from the engine, the new Tata Nano does have an awesome pick-up and acceleration . The car takes hardly any time to touch the top speed of 105 km. Furthermore, this compact car keeps the ability to handle inclines with the grade-ability of around 30% together with great turning radius of just 4 meters that makes the car a flawless combination of performance and power.
Mileage and Fuel Economy
This small car model lineup has enhanced fuel efficiency and it is said to generate close to 25 Kmpl, which is quite incredible for the buyers. This model series is one of the most fuel efficient petrol vehicle, which is being sold in the Indian car market. This new 2013 Tata Nano has the new tall gearing, which has further enhanced its fuel efficiency and it now returns 25.35 Kmpl as per the figures mentioned by the ARAI. Acceleration and Pick up
The company has fitted this small car with a peppy petrol engine, which has a good acceleration for city driving. The 0.6-litre, 624cc, two cylinder, MPFI (Multi Point Fuel Injection) based petrol engine of this 2013 Tata Nano is mated to a four speed manual gearbox, which delivers sufficient power and torque outpur. This engine makes this car able to cross 100 kmph mark from a standstill in just about 29 to 30 seconds and it can touch the top speed mark of 105 Kmph, which is quite good.
The company has done a fairly good job with the exteriors of the 2013 Tata Nano. The front of this small car is marked by a small and sweeping down bonnet. Though the frontage is rather small, it renders a petite appearance to this hatch. This bonnet also has been fitted with a diamond shaped clear lens headlamp cluster and a logo of the company has been affixed in the center. The tinted front wind screen is equipped with a two speed intermittent wipers and a washer as well. Below this is the body colored bumper that also has a front fog lamps for the top end variants. This bumper also has a airdam in the center. The side profile has body colored external wing mirrors along with door handles. The new 2013 Tata Nano also gets a set of newly designed wheel covers on the sturdy steel wheels, which are further covered with radial tubeless tyres that give a stylish look to the new Nano. At the rear, this car has a tinted wind screed and a squarish boot lid. The clear lens tail lamp cluster are elongated and then there is a high stop lamp mounted high at the centre.
This 2013 Tata Nano is classy and plush from the inside and comes with a lot of comfortable options across the interiors. There is a proficient air conditioner unit with a heater, front powr windows to add to the comfort, driver and passenger head rest, a sun visor for the driver as well as the front co-driver, laminated front windshield with intermittent wiper and washer. Apart from these, the driver seat can be adjusted on the slider and a recliner is also provided in top two models. This small car also has assist grips for front and rear seats which can be used while steep turns or otherwise. The head lamp leveling facility is integrated in this new 2013 Tata Nano making it more comfortable for viewing the road.
This 2013 Tata Nano is one of the most affordable small car in the market, but at the same time it is rather spacious. The overall length of this small car is about 3099mm along with a total width of about 1495mm (with out the external rear view mirrors). It has got a reasonably good height of about 1652mm and it is designed on a roomy wheelbase, which is close to 2230mm, which makes the interiors more spacious than you can expect. On the other hand, its ground clearance is calculated at 180mm, which is helpful to drive the car on bumpy and uneven roads. There is a boot space of about 80 litres without folding the rear sear and once the rear seat is folded, the space will increase to close to 500 litres, which is quite good.
This small car is equipped with a peppy engine that has the ability to generate a decent performance. This 0.6-litre 2-cylinder, 624cc, MPFI based petrol trim has the ability to churn out a maximum 37.5bhp of at 5200 to 5500rpm and yields 51Nm of peak torque output at 3500rpm to 4000rpm. This high performance engine is further mated with a four speed front and one reverse based manual transmission gearbox that boosts the engine's ability to be quick and fuel efficient. This small car's engine has been integrated with MPFI fuel injection system which is another reason why it is so fuel efficient. The CNG version of Tata Nano is comes with the same engine but it produces 32bhp at 5500rpm and yields a maximum 45Nm of torque at 3500rpm. Equipping the CNG fuel kit to this engine may have reduced its power but the fuel efficiency has been improved a lot.
The company has fitted this 2013 Tata Nano with a set of tough 12 inch steel wheels of size 4 B X 12, which have been covered with tubeless radial tyres. The tyre size of the front and rear wheels are different with the front tyre size being 135/70 R12, while the rear ones get a tyre size of 155/65 R12 along with a spare wheel of size 135/70 R12, all of which have a better road grip.
The suspension system of this latest Tata Nano model line up is very sturdy and helps to keep this small car steady and well balanced. The front axle of this Tata Nano small car has been fitted with an independent suspension mechanism that has a lower wish bone and a McPherson strut, which also has gas filed dampers along with an anti roll bar as well. Whereas, the rear axle of this small car gets an independent semi trailing arm with a coil spring, which also gas filled shock absorbers as well.
Handling and Control
This Tata Nano series trim has been fitted with an efficient braking system for keeping it completely under the control of the driver. The front as well as the rear wheels has been fitted with 180mm diameter drum brakes for competent braking of this small car on any road conditions. The company has fitted a dual circuit type of a brake along with a vertical split that is operated by a tandem master cylinder, which also has a vacuum booster. All these mechanisms put together ensure that this small car is perfectly under control of the driver. Apart from this braking system, a few other features such as tubeless radial tyres, a rear center high mounted stop lamp, laminated wind screen, a door lock on the driver side, booster assisted brakes for efficient braking, front and rear seat belts for added protection of the passengers, additional body reinforcements and also an intrusion beam, which is an integral feature through an innovative door system design. All these and a few other such aspects ensure that this small car is well protected along with its occupants.
Stylish looking exteriors, reasonably good interiors, economical on the pocket.
Engine lacks power, lesser space for taller people, boot space negligible.
