Over all Review of Blackberry Curve 8310

Blackberry Curve 8310 Price

Overall Review

The Blackberry Curve 8310 is a superior voice phone that delivers strong reception and dependable voice quality. With a spacious, full QWERTY keyboard, the BlackBerry Curve 8310 becomes an awesome messaging phone also. Additionally, users also get a 2-megapixel camera and Bluetooth in this device. The sleek design in addition to a GPS makes the RIM Blackberry Curve 8310 an even more attractive choice for aggressive travelers and busy professionals roaming round the globe.Sadly, the Curve 8310 doesn't offer Wi-Fi or 3G support. The phone is lightweight and quite portable and like most Blackberry devices, is a very sturdy and solid phone with good specs sheet. There is no phone that can actually beat RIM’s Blackberry Curve 8310 in terms of its usability and performance.

The Blackberry Curve 8310 comes in two new and exciting colors, grayish titanium and a brilliant red, and such attractive color options in a sleek messaging smartphone is definitely a treat.

User Interface and UI functionality

Blackberry Curve 8310 has a 320 X 240 pixels QVGA display of 2.4 inches and that is pretty nice considering that the phone also boasts a full-QWERTY keypad. Additionally, there is a light-sensing feature or LED on the phone that adjusts brightness levels depending upon whether you're indoors or outdoors.

The proprietary OS and user interface of Blackberry Curve 8310 is definitely reliable because RIM is a trusted brand. The 32 bit 312 MHz processor of Blackberry Curve 8310 is not taxing on the battery but is adequate to support a slick functioning of the phone. Its user-interface via keypad input is quite satisfying. In fact, the trackball of Blackberry Curve 8310 is as easy to use as on other Curve models and its backlit keyboard offers decent-size buttons and a satisfying touch response.

Multimedia features

The music player on Blackberry Curve 8310is pretty standard types but it displays track information as in the title, artist, and album art, and also creates playlist, shuffle and repeat the songs with utmost ease. Music can be played in the background while other apps are in use on the handset.

The Blackberry Curve 8310plays MP3 and AAC music files but not DRM-encoded tracks.Other facets of the 8310 are also impressive. Its 3.5mm stereo headset jack can upgrade to quality headsets. If there's a call, the Curve 8310 would automatically pause the music and pick up right from where you had hung the music up. One notable improvement to the video player is the support for full-screen mode.

Pictures and Video quality

There is a 2-megapixels camera with built-in LED flash and 5x zoom in Blackberry Curve 8310 which can be used to take some really usable soft pictures, even indoors with low light. Pictures can be obtained in three sizes and there are also three quality options viz. fine, superfine and normal. Users can add quality by adding color effects and using white balance. The quality of pictures is better than obtained from camera units of many smartphones. The picture quality is sharp though colors could have been better.

The Curve 8310 still doesn't record video.

Internet support

The built-in browser of Blackberry Curve 8310is passable, but if Opera Mini is also pre-loaded which renders miniature versions of full Web pages, things can be even better. Sadly, theWeb browserof Blackberry Curve 8310isn't very sleek.  Blackberry Curve 8310 doesn’t have Wi Fi and 3G and relies upon EDGE network for Internet connectivity. 8310 Curve can also be used as a tethered modem but EDGE network connection can be slow at times to create problems. For local data sharing, there is a Bluetooth with A2DP.

Messaging is the highlight of Blackberry Curve 8310and as such the high end device runs the proprietary BlackBerry Messenger IM client.Other messaging options include text, multimedia, and instant messaging. The e-mail handling of this handset is also absolutely sublime. One can send lightning-fast push e-mails with support for Web-based mail, POP/IMAP, and BlackBerry e-mail accounts. There is additional support for Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino, and even Novell GroupWise to deliver corporate e-mail in real time. An attachment viewer is also there to help read popular file formats such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Corel WordPerfect, PDFs, JPEG, GIF, and more. Curve 8310 can support maximum 10 accounts and there is an e-mail wizard on the device to guide you through the setup process. The spell-check feature removes any spelling errors in the messages before they're sent.

Internal and External Memory

Blackberry Curve 8310 has 64 MB ROM support and the memory can be expandable to up to 4 GB via a microSD card. The multimedia files can be preserved on the SD card easily.

Applications and Gaming

The BlackBerry OS on Blackberry Curve 8310 is fast, responsive and also streamlined, but third-party app support on this device is still not adeqaute. This is a common problem with most Blackberry phones.

Battery Backup

Blackberry Curve 8310 has an 1100 mAH battery that delivers up to 4 hours of talk time and can keep the phone on standby time for 17 days.

Connectivity Offered

Blackberry Curve 8310 smartphone doesn't include Wi-Fi but it does feature GPS support with built-in TeleNav maps. There is also Bluetooth with stereo headset support.

Compare

Motorola Q9h works on the Windows Mobile 6.0 standard OS and has a full QWERTY keypad with 5-way navigation key. The 2.4 inch TFT LCD display of the smartphone is just similar to that of Blackberry Curve 8310. The camera of Motorola Q9h is also a 2 megapixels camera just as in Curve 8310. However, the Motorola Q9h is a 3G enabled phone but lacks a video call camera. The on-board internal memory of 132 MB is there in the phone which is tad more than that of Curve 8310. The 330 MHz processor of Motorola Curve is also better than BlackBerry device.

The Curve 8310 definitely lack the Motorola Q9h's document editing and high-speed data transfer speeds but superior e-mail handling, a responsive OS, and a sleeker design make the Curve a great alternative. The 8310's 2-megapixel camera is also a good reason to skip the Motorola Q9h. The Curve 8310 is a better messaging device and a superior voice phone with dependable voice quality and strong reception as against the Motorola Q9h.
