Expert Review of BlackBerry Z3 Black
BlackBerry, the Canadian mobile maker, has been witnessing a strong growth trajectory in the Indian mobile market of late. This has encouraged the company to launch new phones that cater to the needs of different categories of mobile users. In the past, BlackBerry phones were viewed as a device that is only meant for the ‘business class’ people. But after seeing the market potential in India, BlackBerry started launching phones with features that will be enjoyed by everyone. <span style=""font-size:" 13px;"="">BlackBerry, which has already launched its new Z3 phone in Indonesia is expected to hit the stores in India too. BlackBerry Z3 is the first Canadian phone to be launched with the Android side-loading capability. This phone runs on BlackBerry's 10.2.1 OS and features a 5 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen, a 5MP primary camera, 1.1MP secondary camera, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory, 32GB of expandable memory by using a microSD card, a 1.2GHz dual-core processer, Qualcomm MSM8230 chipset, Adreno 305 GPU and a 2500mAh battery.
User Interface and UI functionality
BlackBerry Z3 features a 5 inches capacitive TFT touchscreen with a display resolution of 540 x 960 pixels and a pixel density of 220ppi. BlackBerry Z3, like many other smartphones in the market, comes with a color depth resolution of 16M. It runs on BlackBerry’s very own BlackBerry OS v 10.2.1 and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processer, Qualcomm MSM8230 chipset and Adreno 305 GPU for graphics.
BlackBerry Z3 sports a 5MP primary rear camera and a 1.1MP secondary front facing camera for video calling. The primary camera is also equipped with features like LED flash and autofocus. It also features a video recorder and an audio player. The phone comes with a slew of functions like - a FM Radio to keep the users entertained, a 3.5mm audio jack for the headphones and a loudspeaker.
Pictures and Video quality
With a Qualcomm Snapdragon processer onboard, the 5MP camera at a resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels churns out some pretty good quality pictures. The same cannot be said for the 1.1MP secondary camera, although, it serves its purpose of video calling and taking selfies. The presence of LED flash will let the users to capture memorable moments even under low light conditions. The auto focus feature will help snappers to take some pretty good shots without much of a hassle.
BlackBerry Z3 supports connectivity options such as 2G, 3G, EDGE, GPS, and Wi-Fi. A Bluetooth v4.0 with A2DP will let users connect to compatible devices for faster transfer of files. The phone supports NFC and HDMI.
Internal and External Memory
BlackBerry Z3 features 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory (ROM). Users will also get enough space to store numerous files with the help of an expandable external memory of up to 32GB by using a microSD card.
Applications and Gaming
BlackBerry Z3 comes with a bunch of preloaded applications such as BlackBerry Maps, photo viewer, editor, Organizer, BlackBerry Hub and BBM that let the users to stay connected. In addition to these, apps like Time Shift and Story Maker make the phone - all the more entertaining to the users. With the help of applications like ‘Snap’ and ‘APK Train’, users can bring the Google Play Store onboard and install interesting apps.
BlackBerry Z3 is powered by a non-removable Li-ion 2500mAh battery that offers a talk time of up to 10-12 hours.
BlackBerry Z3 supports 2G, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, GPRS, EDGE and NFC. The micro USB port aids in faster transfer of files. The phone also allows USB charging.
When compared to Nokia XL, BlackBerry Z3 has a faster processer at 1200MHz and a higher capacity RAM at 1.5GB. Nokia XL takes the backseat with its 1000MHz processer and a mere 768MB of RAM. When it comes to the camera department, both phones feature a 5MP primary rear camera but Nokia XL comes with a 2.1MP secondary camera when compared to BlackBerry Z3’s 1.1MP secondary camera. Also, both the phones come with a roomy 5 inches screen but vary in terms of pixel density. Nokia XL has a pixel density of 187ppi while BlackBerry Z3 has a pixel density of 220ppi.
Nokia XL features an internal memory of 4GB when compared to BlackBerry Z3’s 8GB internal memory. Being a dual-SIM phone, Nokia XL has a better advantage over BlackBerry Z3. Nokia XL feels a little heavy at 190gm when compared to BlackBerry Z3’s 169gm. It is also a little thicker at 10.9mm while the Z3 is a lot thinner at 9.3mm. Nokia XL is powered by a 2000mAh battery while BlackBerry Z3 comes with a 2500mAh battery. The extra battery power offers more talk time and standby time. The Nokia smartphone costs a little less than BlackBerry Z3, but given the benefits of Z3 over Nokia XL, smartphone users actually wouldn’t mind spending a couple of thousands extra and opt for the better deal.
