Expert Review of HTC Sensation Black
HTC Sensation, as per its name, is the sensational and most talked about smartphone by the Taiwanese giant manufacturer of smartphones and tablets, HTC, and is the supercharged phone that is launched as the flagship device by the manufacturer. It is packed to the brim with powerful specs and cutting edge design. Prior to the release of this smartphone, HTC was the unknown manufacturer in the market whose products were not counted amongst the better devices available in the market, but no sooner HTC Sensation hit the market, the brand value of HTC increased like a share market. Being a flagship set amongst its earlier siblings, this smartphone has Android platform and above that it is governed by HTC Sense UI. This combo of platform and user interface do wonders for the handset and brings satisfaction at the users' end. This device is marketed as a multimedia superphone that easily fits in the palms of your hands. It is available in a very handy size of 126.1mm x 65.4mm x 11.3mm and bears a weight of 148 grams only. This handset burst out with a dual core processor that supplies a very fast and uninterrupted processing speed to run even the heavy applications very smoothly. Right from the design to the powerful camera and chipset of this smartphone, everything is so qualitative that there are no chances of any compromise on features with this handset. The ultimate design of the back cover is very interesting and almost all the chassis are made up of aluminium. The back cover is divided into three parts where the middle portion remains with the back cover whereas the top and the bottom part remain attached to the device. Like the previous handsets by HTC, this device also has network antenna in its back cover, so if you remove the rear casing the Wi-Fi network will automatically loose the coverage. This case also protects to the screen by providing a strong bezel around the screen, which is slightly sunk into it. What makes HTC Sensation more unique amongst its rivals is its concave screen that is the coolest thing about this phone. Because of the rounded corners and narrower bezel of HTC Sensation, it feels quite smaller in the hand when compared to the large boned HTC Desire HD, though Sensation is actually little bit larger than its contemporaries. The phone is so built that its feels very comfortable to hand and the attractive and premium look of the handset suits the high price of the phone. It terms of design, the device has a full touch capacitive screen in the front where below the display there are very usual four Android touch sensitive buttons for Home, Menu, Back and Search. The top part of the front has a secondary VGA camera along with Gyro, G-Sensor, Digital Compass, Proximity and Ambient light sensors. These sensors adds more usage to the device and makes the experience most wonderful. The Gyro sensor provides additional knowledge to the information delivered by the G-Sensor by tracking twist or orientation of the device. The G-Sensor works totally like an accelerometer and locates the orientation of the device, both horizontally and vertically. The Digital Compass sensor detects the directional orientation of the phone with respect to the Earth's magnetic field so that the users are aware that which direction is north and which one is south. Proximity sensor emits out an electromagnetic field or electromagnetic radiations that detects the nearby POIs, buildings, towers, cafes, etc. without having actual contact with them. Ambient Light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen as per the light conditions, so that the screen is always visible even when the sun is over the head. The device is curved all around the edges that give a nice feeling to the hands. The four Android buttons at the bottom have extra functionalities too, that is, on long press Home key will launch Task Switcher, Menu key will launch virtual keyboard and the Back key will launch Voice Search. The left sides of HTC Sensation contains a microUSB port and a long thin metal bar that works as a volume rocker and also plays a key role in the zoom in and zoom out feature. There is no rotational flap over the microUSB port and this slot can be used as a charging point too. This port is basically an MHL port where you can insert the MHL dongle also and the port will automatically transforms into an HDMI out. The right side is left bare, where the shutter key for camera could have been placed. The top hosts a 3.5mm audio jack that is left uncovered. This universal headphone jack also acts as an A/V connector to extend its usage. It also works as an antenna for radio connectivity and along with it there is a power/lock key, which is very easy to use. The bottom is the home for a mouthpiece and a small latch that helps in removing the back casing. Coming to the back portion, you will find an 8 megapixels camera, which is placed the left side of the top. The camera has dual LED flash support, two small holes for noise cancellation and a loudspeaker grill. The camera is slightly protruded out that saves the loudspeaker from getting muffled when the phone is placed with back side downwards. When the back cover is removed, what revealed out is a power packed battery along with a microSD card slot that is hot swappable, which means you can easily remove or insert the memory card without taking out the battery, but the SIM card compartment is blocked by the battery. It is a solidly built device that does not have a unibody design but still is very sturdy amongst its siblings as well as its rivals. This smartphone has HTC Sense user interface along with Android market and HTC Sense.com that allows the users to have a look into the applications that are of use to them.

The new thing that this UI along with platform has given to this smartphone is the new active lockscreen that, by default, has four shortcuts and a ring at the bottom. To unlock the phone you have to drag the ring to the centre of the screen or you can drag any of the four shortcuts into the ring to open the phone and to launch that particular application. These four applications are customizable so the users can assign any four applications to the lockscreen from the available lot.
