Expert Review of Huawei U8650 Sonic
Huawei U8650 Sonic is a surprise package with the device being a very formidable Smartphone along with being economically sound as well. Huawei has been in the country for a while now and has aimed to sell their products as not only value for money but as someone who can deliver in terms of quality as well. The phone contains a battery, a USB cable, USB charger and a handsfree kit. A 2 GB microSD card slot is built-in with the device. The device looks and feels sturdy in the hand and can surely take some beatings if or when handled by a rough user. The device comes with the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system which would generally require lot of RAM but with Huawei U8650 Sonic, you get 256 MB of it which would generally give an impression that the device is in trouble in terms of speed. But to our surprise the device actually works fine and is pretty quick even when used with Wi-Fi where you can open multiple windows with smoothness and ease. The screen size is 3.5 inches which is pretty decent and works with a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels. Multimedia features include music player and a video player which is not out of this world but is okay at best in terms of sound quality. The device is NFC enabled although its use in India is not as great as it would be say in Europe and Japan. Powered by the standard lithium ion battery of 1400 mAh, Huawei U8650 Sonic is available in various colors.
User Interface and UI functionality
Huawei U8650 Sonic comes with a 3.5 inch screen which is TFT capacitive and works at a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels along with a pixel density of 165 ppi. The resolution of 320 by 480 pixels is the lowest that any Android device can work with now so the device is complying with the starting benchmark and gives 265k colors. The screen can be a little too shiny for some which would make reading the screen a tad bit uncomfortable although not unreadable by any means. Typing through the keypad would not be an absolute smooth sailing but still decent.
Huawei U8650 Sonic has a music player and video player whose interface might remind you of iOS music player. The music player offered by the device is not their strongest suit and in fact if there is anything that could go against the device, it's probably the music player. Its sound quality is really not that great and is not loud enough. The earphones offered by the device can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5 mm jack. The user can also listen to the music with the help of a 3.5 mm jack. The video player would let the user watch videos where the quality is comparatively good as compared to the music player.
Pictures and Video quality
Huawei U8650 Sonic offers a 3.2 megapixel camera which is nothing out of this world and would give you pictures like only a camera phone can. What we mean to say is that don't expect pictures to be a professional photography quality. So don't go hanging those pictures on the walls. Still as long as the user is clicking them with the intentions of keeping a collection in their device, it is good. The camera works at a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels and also lets the user shoot videos with VGA quality but there is no provision for a secondary camera. This is another drawback with the device that the user can not video chat.
Huawei U8650 Sonic comes with the Wi-Fi facility that ensures that the user can connect with the web. The Internet speed is pretty quick where you can open multiple tabs and windows with effectiveness. Once a window is closed and then to re-open it again may be a hassle. Otherwise, Internet browsing is actually pretty great. The device is NFC capable but how much of that is useful in India is another story.
Internal and External Memory
Huawei U8650 Sonic comes with a built-in 2 GB memory card slot which is very formidable allowing the user to store plenty of data like games, images, videos and songs. In case the memory is not enough, the user can expand the memory of the device up to 32 GB with the help of a microSD card slot. The RAM of 256 MB seems weak on paper but does not affect the speed of the device as much as it may look like. Still on can't argue that if the device had a better RAM, performance would have been better.
Applications and Gaming
Huawei U8650 Sonic comes with lots of games and apps that are pre-installed in the device and that would keep the user engaged and entertained. The user can further download more games and apps from the web with the device having a large pool to choose from with the Android Gingerbread operating system to back it up.
Huawei U8650 Sonic runs on the standard lithium ion battery of 1400 mAh that gives the user a talk time of up to 8 hours and 20 minutes along with a standby time of up to 400 hours.
Huawei U8650 Sonic offers loads of data connectivity features like the Bluetooth feature that allows the user to connect with other devices and exchange data with it wirelessly. There is also the USB port along with the access to NFC technology. Moreover there is Wi-Fi along with the GPRS and EDGE facility.
Huawei U8650 Sonic when compared to Samsung Galaxy Y has a bigger screen and a camera that has a better pixel strength. Both the devices don’t have a secondary camera and work on the Android Gingerbread operating system. Battery is slightly better with Huawei U8650 Sonic.
