Expert Review of iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple 2G White
The Indian section of the tier2 brands have had a better outing last season as compared to the overseas companies. There is no one single reason or cause that can be pin pointed for the same but brands like Lava, Micromax and Karbonn do have a better understanding of the Indian audience and the trends that can be anticipated. As a result, they have been able to put forward a more effective marketing strategy along with a better blend of specifications and price. Another tier2 brand, iBall has unfortunately, not had the same kind of success in the smartphone business like its counterparts. The company would be hoping to turn it around with iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple that has a 4.5 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 by 854 pixels. The 16 million color depth resolution also backs the display that otherwise, is low on pixel density.
The smartphone, iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple is available in the colors of Special Grey with gun metal and Shiny White with chrome. The device does look sturdy but probably not score as much when it comes to style or elegance. We do not imply that the smartphone does not look great but a little more work could have been put into it. The Cortext A7 dual core processor with 1.3GHz frequency represents the hardware of the smartphone that has a rather subdued RAM with 512MB, which would be just about right for everyday activities. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system is again, not what the user would have wished for as Android KitKat is already out, but considering the calibre of the device, it is not that bad. Angry Birds, F1 Race are some of the games that could be enjoyed with Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS. Nothing fancy is provided in the data connectivity department with the absence of Wi-Fi tethering or NFC.
The fundamental features are present including Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, HTML5 browser, Bluetooth and USB port. The device, iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple supports dual SIM thus permitting the user to make use of two tariff plans with two GSM SIMs. The user gets the dual standby facility as well with the frequencies supported being 900 and 1800MHz for both the SIMs. The FM Radio works well to provide a wonderful musical experience via popular radio stations while the music player can create a customized set of songs to be heard at leisure. A video player also forms part of the entertainment segment and facilitates watching of videos and movies. The 5 megapixels primary camera is a good deal to have for snapping images with a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels and forms a healthy support but the secondary camera falls severely in terms of strength with just 0.3 megapixels.
Flash, auto focus and zoom are all the features that would assist the 5 megapixels primary rear camera while the front camera is known more for making video calls over the web and taking selfies. The microSD card slot would be required in case the 2GB internal memory exhausts itself. The user, via the expansion slot can get as much as 32GB of external memory, which is huge by any means. To make sure that iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple does not switch off while running all such hardcore activities, it comes powered by a 1500mAh standard lithium-ion battery.
User Interface and UI functionality
iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple has 4.5 inches of TFT capacitive touchscreen that draws on the resolution of 480 by 854 pixels and 16 million color depth resolution. Swiping is alright with the display while the reflection from difficult angles is also manageable.
No surprises in the multimedia department with iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple providing a music player, FM Radio and a video player. The user can listen to popular music and watch videos in a number of formats by creating a personalized list of the same.
Pictures and Video quality
The 5 megapixels primary rear camera is a nice addition to iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple and performs better than expected with a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels under its belt. Though LED flash and auto focus are provided, the latter is not as effective, and the rear shutter seems to be pretty impressive. The secondary camera is weaker with 0.3 megapixels but good enough to enable video calling over the web.
Internet facilities are covered by the usual offerings in iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple including Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and HTML5 browser. The download and web surfing speeds are manageable with the 2G version and naturally rises with the 3G version.
Internal and External Memory
The internal memory of 2GB is pretty good to accommodate a respectable amount of data like songs, games, images and videos. However, to go beyond respectable and into the land of the massive, the user can deploy the microSD card slot to augment the external memory to 32GB. Although, 512MB of RAM does not appear to be striking enough.
Applications and Gaming
There is no shortage of games or applications with iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple since Google play store is in a better position to offer a huge slew of choices with Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system. WhatsApp, Viber or WeChat are some of the apps that the user can exploit along with games like Virtual Tennis or Contra.
iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple is able to garner a reasonable talk time and standby time with the help of a 1500mAh standard lithium-ion battery. The web usage time is a little low but with the application of wiser strategy, the user can bring the duration up to a certain extent.
USB port is a data connectivity feature in iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple that serves the dual purpose of charging the gadget and allowing data to be exchanged with other devices. Bluetooth allows data to be transferred or received wirelessly with other compatible devices. Wi-Fi, HTML5 browser, GPRS and EDGE are the rest of the connectivity essentials. The user gets to work with the GSM SIMs at frequencies of 900 and 1800MHz.
iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple, when compared to Karbonn Smart A12, has a matching 4.5 inches display with more or less the same resolution. Both the smartphones support dual SIM technology but Karbonn Smart A12 has a 1GHz dual core processor while iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple has a 1.3GHz dual core processor. iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple has a more updated Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system as compared to the primitive Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system from Karbonn Smart A12.
The camera department is almost identical in both the devices with a 5 megapixels primary camera and a VGA secondary camera. The 1500mAh standard lithium-ion battery of iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple is just a bit short if the 1800mAh standard lithium-ion battery of Karbonn Smart A12. iBall Andi 4.5 Ripple does not have the tethering capability while Karbonn Smart A12 features the Wi-Fi hot spot facility.
