Expert Review of Karbonn A27
Almost every brand has to start from somewhere when it comes to moving up the ladder and establishing itself as one of the main players. Samsung had to go through the same process when they entered the mobile manufacturing market. Similarly, there are a few more tier2 brands that have the potential to attain the premium level in the not-so-distant future, and Karbonn happens to be one such brand. The firm has produced consistent performance in the recent past with some competitive Android running smartphones. Karbonn A27 is yet another impressive smartphone that is easy on the pocket but heavy on the specs. With a 4.3-inch qHD IPS display, there is a strong indication of a smooth swiping display. With a length of 133.6mm, a breadth of 66mm and a height of 9.1mm, Karbonn A27 is a good-looking device with clean edges. It is slightly on the lighter side with 126.5grams after including the battery. The internal memory is of 4GB, which is as high as we expected and one has to keep in mind that not all of that memory would be available for utilization. So, for more storage space, the user can draw on the talents of the microSD card slot which can augment the external memory of the device up to 32GB. However, this would come at an additional cost. The camera is fabulous with 8megapixels at the back that can snap images at a resolution of 3264 by 2448pixels. The secondary camera is also beefy with 2megapixels that can give the user access to video calls and web chats.
There is the LED flash facility as well for making sure that pictures clicked are never too dull and dark. The internet is considerably fast but there are some glitches that can be a cause for concern. Wi-Fi hot spot and Wi-Fi direct are some of the latest technologies in the smartphone world and Karbonn has wasted no time in incorporating the same into its system. GPRS and EDGE along with the built-in web browser stay intact as usual, providing the user with proper means to access the web. Now the hardware part is a little tricky with a dual core processor and not a quad core, while the RAM too, is not 1GB but 512MB. So, the device would be the fastest chip on the block but having said that, the software front has not been compromised with Android Jelly Bean acting as the formidable software platform for the device. The dual SIM supported device can allocate two GSM SIM's in the same device in an active state that can be useful for users who have to travel constantly. The 1800mAh standard lithium-ion battery is more favorable for getting longer usage time with multimedia applications like music player and video player or more Internet usage. But as far as the talk time is concerned, it is pretty low with up to 4hours apart from a standby time of up to 180hours. Rest of the applications that would accompany the device include STK, Screen Saver, Wallpaper, Power On/Off Animation, Caller ID, CLID with Photo, Call Conference, Languages (Multi Languages), Calculator, Alarm Clock, Stop Watch, World Times, Organizer, Drawing Board, Voice Recorder.
User Interface and UI functionality
Karbonn A27 features a healthy 4.3-inch IPS high definition display that has nice viewing angles with minimum reflection. The device has a retina display and allows the user to view videos and images with great results. The resolution of 960 by 540pixels is not the best we have seen for a 4.3-inch screen but is not the worst either.
Karbonn A27 uses the services of a music player to listen to the desired musical tracks that can be heard in the formats of MP3, MIDI, WAV, AMR, AAC, and AAC+. The user can use the earphone that has a 3.5mm jack compatible with the smartphone or the loudspeakers for sound. Better results can be obtained from the earphones with louder bass sound and more clarity. The video player works with the formats of MP4, 3GP, AVI, H.263, and H.264. There is also a FM Radio for assistance with popular radio stations.
Pictures and Video quality
Karbonn A27 comes with a powerful 8-megapixel camera that can snap beautiful images at a resolution of 3264 by 2448pixels. There is also the facility of LED flash and auto focus apart from the digital zoom that makes sure that the user can get more accuracy from a substantial distance. The hefty 2megapixel secondary camera is also a powerful addition to the camera department ensuring that the user gets to make video calls.
Karbonn A27 has the Wi-Fi and GPRS support for accessing the web with minimum fuss. The user can enjoy all the popular web sites like Facebook and Twitter or even download data like songs, games, images and videos. With Wi-Fi hot spot and Wi-Fi direct the user also gets the option of tethering that would help them in making the device as a mini server for other devices to connect with the web.
Internal and External Memory
Karbonn A27 has a microSD card slot that most likely would come in use. This is because the internal memory would be effectively only 2.97GB out the allocated 4GB, so a 32GB microSD card slot would prove to be vital in case the user exceeds the prescribed memory.
Applications and Gaming
Karbonn A27 has many games to keep the user entertained. Just like most Android devices, this one too does not shy away from offering the user with loads of options to choose. The Android Jelly Bean is the latest Android version that would help the user to get his or her hands on all the apps and games from the Android online store.
Karbonn A27 relies on the 1800mAh standard lithium-ion battery that generates a talk time of up to 4hours and equally, lowly standby time of up to 180hours. Although the talk time and standby time are low, the multimedia time is pretty lingering which is a good sign for the users.
Karbonn A27 has the Wi-Fi direct and Wi-Fi hot spot in data connectivity options while Bluetooth, USB port and GPRS are the usual elements that help the user in data exchange and internet access.
Karbonn A27 when compared to Karbonn A21 has a smaller screen with 4.3inches for the former and 4.5inches for the latter. Both the devices have 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory and 32GB microSD card slot. Karbonn A27 supports Wi-Fi tethering which the Karbonn A21 does not but the latter has a longer battery talk time and standby time. Karbonn A27 has an 8megapixel primary camera as compared to the 5megapixel offered by Karbonn A21. In terms of secondary camera too, Karbonn A27 has 2megapixels that is better than the 1.3megapixels offered by Karbonn A21.
