Over all Review of Lava Iris 402
A lot of Indian brands have a come a long way in the last one year or so including brands such as Lava, Micromax, and Karbonn. All of the three brands have done well when it came to sales while their development as a brand value would certainly take some time. But the rate at which the number of Android devices have evolved in the last few years in terms of specifications have been phenomenal. Lava would certainly fall behind Micromax and Karbonn but the firm has certainly done well overall. Lava Iris 402 comes with a 4-inch TFT capacitive touch screen running at a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. The WVGA screen is little low on pixel density but gives out 16 million colors for better color saturation and accuracy. The smartphone has a length of 125.5mm, breadth of 64.5mm and a thickness of 11.4mm. Android jelly Bean 4.2 operating system is the software platform for the smartphone, which happens to be the latest version of Android whereas the hardware looks decent too with a 1.2GHz dual core processor and a 512MB RAM. The 124 grams weighing device runs on the standard lithium-ion battery of 1500mAh whose removal would reduce the weight of the device up to 92 grams. The talk time thus derived is up to 4 hours along with a standby time of up to 200 hours. The device has the dual SIM facility, which is more for utility than fanciness as more than one GSM SIM can be accommodated which would be useful while traveling to different locations.
The memory of 100MB is kept for storing applications while another 20MB is provided for the use of the user. So in all probability, the memory capacity would not be enough unless the user intends to stay low key when it comes to keeping a large collection of data including songs, games, images and videos. The presence of microSD card slot is necessary and that is exactly what the Lava Iris 402 delivers with a 32GB expansion limit. In the camera department, Lava Iris 402 features a 3 megapixel primary camera and a VGA secondary camera. The digital zoom with fixed focus facility allows the user to make accurate aim at the desired objects thereby clicking better images.
An LED flash is also provided for snapping images whereas video recordings through the primary shutter and online video calls through the secondary camera, is also possible. Internet usage is easy and fast as Wi-Fi and GPRS along with the built-in WAP browser act as the tools for accessing the same. Other data connectivity features involve USB port, Bluetooth and EDGE. Music player and video player apart from FM radio and several games are source for entertainment. Remaining noteworthy applications include Opera, Lava Zone, Twitter, Facebook, Gtalk, Local, MX Player, YouTube, Wireless Input Device, Alarm, Calculator, Call Barring, Call Waiting, Offline Mode, Sound Recorder, Flash Light, Back-up and restore, Predictive Text Input, and Calendar.
User Interface and UI functionality
Lava Iris 402 offers a 4-inch TFT capacitive touch screen that lives up to the resolution of 480 by 800 pixels and has WVGA technology. With 16 million colors, the device gives a decent color saturation and accuracy. The display is also devoid of lags for the most part giving a smoother interface.
Lava Iris 402 exploits the services of a music player that can play songs in the formats of MP3, MIDI, AAC, AAC+, and WAV while the video player is a good application for playing videos with decent quality in the formats of MP4 and 3GP. The 3.5mm jack audio pin is allocated for connecting an earphone to the smartphone while loudspeakers are also a tool to hear the music. FM radio can be used to enjoy the popular radio stations.
Pictures and Video quality
Lava Iris 402 has a 3 megapixel camera which is located at the back of the smartphone and allowing the user to capture images at a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels with facilities like digital zoom with fixed focus and LED flash for support. Secondary camera is weaker in pixels with VGA strength that enables video calling and web chats.
Lava Iris 402 has a compact Internet lineup that can enable data downloading and web surfing. The nature of data that can be downloaded may include songs, games, images, and videos while web sites like Facebook and YouTube can be enjoyed. Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot are the WLAN features where the latter allows the user to augment the internet connection across other compatible devices for them to connect to the Web. GPRS, opera browser and WAP browser are built-in software and applications for connecting to the internet.
Internal and External Memory
Lava Iris 402 comes with 100MB of internal memory that is exclusively saved for storing applications while another 20MB is provided for the user to make use of. Now naturally, only a few songs can be stored if the user has to simply rely on the internal memory but it’s the microSD card slot that can really make a difference to the storage capacity with a huge 32GB stretchable limit.
Applications and Gaming
Lava Iris 402 provides loads of Android games that are preloaded in the smartphone including Ninja Rush and Saavn while the Google play store would give the user access to plenty more. The Jelly Bean operating system makes sure that the user does not miss out on any of the latest songs and apps.
Lava Iris 402 is powered by the standard lithium-ion battery of 1500mAh, which can obtain a talk time of up to 4 hours along with a moderate standby time of up to 200 hours.
Lava Iris 402 has tons of data connectivity features including Bluetooth and USB port that takes care of the data exchange operations while there is the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot for wireless Internet access. GPRS and EDGE can also help in Internet access but can also be used for navigation purposes.
Lava Iris 402 when compared to Karbonn A12 has a smaller screen with the former featuring a 4 inches display and the latter 4.5 inches. Both the devices have dual SIM facilities but the camera strength is more with Karbonn A12 as it features a 5 megapixels primary shutter as compared to the 3 megapixels camera featured by Lava Iris 402. Secondary camera however is of equal strength for both the smartphones. Lava Iris 402 runs on the Android Jelly Bean operating system as compared to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system for Karbonn A12. Karbonn A12 is powered by a battery of 1800mAh, which is higher in comparison to the 1500mAh battery flaunted by Lava Iris 402.

Currently in the top three of the Indian mobile companies, the brand has come a long way in a very short time of around 3 years now. The Lava Iris 402, a dual SIM touch screen offering from Lava is assured of quickly making waves in the mobile phone segment in India.
