Overall Review

The clash of titans has begun with all the powerhouse handsets ready to vie with each other. The screen sizes are becoming bigger and bigger and the situation now is such that companies are not settling for anything less than 5 inches of screen. It seems like there is a list of specifications that act as a bare minimum for flagship devices and firms are trying to bank on that but trying to outperform each other in terms of pricing. Lava is another tier2 company that is trying to accomplish the same task with Lava Iris 504Q that has a 5-inch IPS display running in high definition at 720 pixels. There is no sluggishness at any point of time even while handling multiple tasks. The device has a length of 142.9mm, a breadth of 72.9mm and a thickness of 8.4mm. The device weighs 102 grams without the battery and 140 grams including the battery that makes it a pretty light device for its screen size. The operating system chosen for this handset is the Android Jelly Bean while the hardware is of 1.2GHz Mediatek along with 1GB RAM. The device has lots to offer when it comes to the entertainment segment as the company has partnered with Hungama to integrate Hungama's music interface and application which would work in collaboration to bring in access to songs, videos, trailers and dialogues along with some other mobile content including ringtones and wallpapers. As far as the games are concerned, there is one game by the name of Modern Warcraft, which is one of the more renowned names in the gaming world that comes pre-loaded in the device. For internet facility, there is the opera mini browser that ensures that the user can surf web sites or download data including songs, games, images, and videos. Wi-Fi is also provided but the drawback is that there is no tethering option. This will give other devices an edge over the rest of the gadgets as they all offer Hot spot or DLNA. The primary camera is beefy with 8-megapixel resolution screen functioning at 3264 by 2448 pixels resolution with auto focus and LED flash for support. The secondary camera is a healthy 2-megapixel that also provides some good-looking front photographs along with web chats and video calling facility. The memory department is well stacked up by 4GB ROM along with 2GB of internal end user memory. There is a microSD card slot with 32GB capacity that can help you to keep a large collection of data. Powered by the 2000mAh standard lithium-ion battery, Lava Iris 504Q is a smartphone to count as far as the longevity is concerned with a talk time of up to 15.5hours and standby time of up to 230hours. Dual SIM facility would certainly not hurt the chances of the device to increase its fan base by allowing usage of multiple numbers at the same time. Remaining features of the device include applications like Hungama, Google Plus, Fusion, Gtalk, To-Do-List, Messenger Plus, Modern Combat, Playtime, Twitter, YouTube, WhatsApp, Voice Search, Calculator, Call Baring, and Alarm respectively.

User Interface and UI functionality

Lava Iris 504Q has a full sized 5-inch IPS display that produces images in high definition at an acceptable resolution of 1280 by 720 pixels. The display is very smooth to work with and does not allow any reflection even from uncomfortable angles.

Multimedia features

Lava Iris 504Q is well supported in the multimedia department with the firm having a fruitful partnership with Hungama, for it provides music application that offers musical tracks, video songs, trailers, and dialogues. There are various other contents as well that include ringtones and wallpapers. Music can be heard through the loudspeakers or earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5mm jack.

Pictures and Video quality

Lava Iris 504Q has an 8-megapixel camera in addition to the 2-megapixel secondary camera located at the front of the device. Resolution offered by the former is 3264 by 2448 pixels and 1600 by 1200 pixels by the latter. Assisting features that help the primary camera in difficult circumstances include digital zoom, auto focus, and LED flash. Video recordings are not exceptional and do not appear where it support 1080 pixels resolution but are decent enough.

Internet support

Lava Iris 504Q has the opera mini browser as the default app to access the web that comes built-in with the device. The user, assisted by the GPRS facility can access the web and visit any web site that he or she desires while Wi-Fi is also accommodated in order to connect with any wireless connection available.

Internal and External Memory

Lava Iris 504Q comes stacked with 4GB of internal memory that is further boosted by the 2GB additional space. So it should take a while for the user to be able to turn to the microSD card slot that has 32GB expansion ability. Overall, plenty of data can be stored that may also include movies or videos on a large scale. RAM is of 1GB, which is a healthy number on any given day for providing good operational speed for any smartphone.

Applications and Gaming

Lava Iris 504Q has some heavyweight games including modern combat from Warcraft that comes preinstalled with the device and should delight game lovers. The user can download lots more from the web courtesy Android Jelly Bean that provides a huge bank of similar games and apps.

Battery Backup

Lava Iris 504Q is driven by the 2000mAh standard lithium-ion battery that generates a long talk time of up to 15.5hours along with a not so impressive standby time of up to 230hours. Music playtime is also extended but playing games may consume a lot more of your hours than one would consider ideal.

Connectivity Offered

Lava Iris 504Q has loads of data connectivity features for data exchange and Internet connectivity that include Bluetooth, USB port, Wi-Fi, GPRS and EDGE.

Lava Iris 504Q when compared to Micromax A116 Canvas HD has an identical screen size with 5 inches where the resolution offered is also the same. The camera is of 8-megapixel for both the gadgets and so is the secondary camera with 2-megapixel, while the quality of images produced is more or less the same. The battery strength is 2000mAh for both smartphones but the talk time and standby time are longer for Lava Iris 504Q.
