Expert Review of Lenovo Vibe X
Lenovo is one of the few brands that is still involved in the laptop and desktop manufacturing process alongside HP, Dell, and a few others like Sony. It is only fair for such companies to take a shot at the smartphone segment, for it is proving out to be the most profitable segment now. But unlike other new entrants, Lenovo knows its way around the block when it comes to electronic gadgets and would be hoping to bank on that experience to deliver good performance. Lenovo Vibe X comes with a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that has a very impressive pixel density of 441ppi while the resolution is also on the higher side with 1080 by 1920 pixels. The smartphone is the flagship model of the company and looks really attractive with shades of HTC One especially from the side of the gadget.
The device runs on the Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system, which is as latest an Android version as one can get right now. The hardware of the device includes a quad core processor that operates at 1.5GHz, which is really good for multitasking along with the overall working of the device. But here comes the really impressive part as Lenovo Vibe X features 2GB of RAM which is really good by smartphone standards. In fact, there is not a smartphone till date that exceeds this RAM. So the smartphone as a whole, is expected to run at a fast pace and should be able to play any high configuration game that the Android world has to offer. Internal memory of the device is of 16GB that is really big by any stretch of imagination but that does not mean that the space would not get exhausted. But unfortunately, in that case the user would have to remove the existed data as there is no provision for memory expansion.
Lenovo has left no stone unturned even in the camera department as the device features a 13-megapixel primary camera alongside a beefy 5-megapixel secondary camera. Video recordings produce quality results at 1080 pixels in high definition. Both the cameras do really well in delivering the intended job of producing phenomenal images. Internet facilities are accessible through features like GPRS, EDGE, WAP browser, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, and dual band. Data connectivity further comprises of Bluetooth and USB port but there is no NFC capability. Battery strength is a little weak as compared to the amount of features that the smartphone has to offer and with 2000mAh standard lithium-ion power backup, the user would struggle to keep up with so many multimedia applications and Android capabilities.
User Interface and UI functionality
Lenovo Vibe X comes with a large 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen that gives 16 million colors and a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels along with a massive pixel density of 441ppi. The pixel density offered by the smartphone is at par with HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 that produces beautiful images with greater color accuracy and saturation. There is no lag either when it comes to swiping speed and responsiveness.
Lenovo Vibe X has a music and video player, which works for the provision of songs, videos, and other entertainment related purposes. Popular radio stations can be heard too with FM radio that has the RDS technology for recordings of songs as well. Earphones are good with 3.5mm audio pin compatibility whereas loudspeakers are good as well but there are other devices that produce much better sound quality like Sony Xperia series. Various formats supported by the music player include MP3, WAV, WMA and eAAC+ player while the video player is compatible with the formats of MP4, WMV, H.264, and H.263 player.
Pictures and Video quality
Lenovo Vibe X has a powerful and dominant 13-megapixel primary camera that maneuvers at a resolution of 4128 by 3096 pixels. Both low light images and outdoor images are wonderful as features like auto focus, LED flash, Geo-Tagging, Touch Focus, Face detection further add to the flavor of the pictures clicked. Video recordings are in high definition at 1080 pixels. Secondary camera is again very impressive with 5-megapixel which is unusually large for a front shutter that can snap images of self or be used for video calls and web chats.
Lenovo Vibe X comes with Wi-Fi Hot spot facility that makes the user exploit the nearby web connection for his or her own advantage while the user can also expand the connections across other compatible devices for the same. Wi-Fi, dual band are wireless means to access the web whereas GPRS, EDGE, and WAP browser are internal means to do the same. Internet speed is pretty good with both downloading and web surfing.
Internal and External Memory
Lenovo Vibe X comes with 16GB of internal memory that should be attractive to most but with an Android device, one can never be sure about how much is enough as there are loads of high-end applications and games that can come into use. But if the memory runs out, there is no microSD card slot provision which is a drawback with the device. RAM is formidable with 2GB, making the device as fast as any other in the market.
Applications and Gaming
Preloaded games are not much with Lenovo Vibe X while there are some applications to make use of. However, tons of games can be downloaded from the Android Google Play Store like Commando, Ninja Run, Temple Run, Angry Birds etc., along with applications like WhatsApp and WeChat. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system is the latest software platform so the user would not miss out on any games or app.
Lenovo Vibe X is powered by 2000mAh standard lithium-ion battery, which is rather less than what would have been ideal for a device of such stature. The Android running device has a lot of pixel density and the user is expected to run a lot of high end applications along with various multimedia operations so, a lot more battery strength was required.
Lenovo Vibe X comes with Bluetooth and microUSB port 2.0 along with USB on-the-go facility, which ensures data exchange facilities. Internet capabilities are looked after by Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hot spot, and dual band. The device functions at a GSM frequency of 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900.
Lenovo Vibe X when compared to Samsung Galaxy S4 has a similar screen size of 5 inches and both the smartphones are backed by identical pixel density of 441ppi. The strength of primary camera is 13 megapixels for both the smartphones but the secondary camera is of 5 megapixels for Lenovo Vibe X, while it is 2 megapixels for Samsung Galaxy S4. Lenovo Vibe X comes powered by a standard lithium-ion battery of 2000mAh whereas Samsung Galaxy S4 runs on a 2600mAh standard lithium-ion battery. Lenovo Vibe X has a quad core processor whereas Galaxy S4 has an octa core processor. Both the smartphones offer 2GB of RAM but Samsung Galaxy S4 has a microSD card slot of 64GB while the same is absent in Lenovo Vibe X.
