Expert Review of Maxx AX8 Race White
The smartphone segment has become overcrowded with the entry of newer entrants, and Maxx being the latest to jump into the bandwagon. Maxx is a brand that is not well known, but the company would be trying to change that through better advertisement and devices. Its model Maxx AX8 Race has a huge 5-inch capacitive touch screen that runs on a resolution of 480 by 800pixels which is low for such a big screen. It comes with a length of 147mm, breadth of 79.4mm and height of 10.2mm. It weighs 198grams which is as heavy as most Phablets in the market. With an enormous 8megapixel primary camera, the user can click images at a resolution of 3264 by 2448 pixels, which is impressive, to say the least. The secondary camera is not as strong with VGA strength, but for video calling and some occasional face time, it is certainly not as bad. The device has an internal memory of 4GB, a strong one indeed that enables the user to keep a large data collection including songs, games, images and videos. The MicroSD card slot helps too, with a 32GB expansion facility that makes the device flexible. The standard lithium-ion battery of 2300mAh that is brawny but the talk time is not so much with up to 6 hours only. The standby time is substantial with up to 500 hours.
The device runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system that is not that far from the latest Android offering, but the user would, as a result miss a lot of games and apps. The dual SIM facility is always welcomed, especially for those who have to travel a lot and thus, change numbers constantly. Also, the connectivity features include a lot of appealing facilities including the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot, while GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth and USB port round up the remaining elements. Music can be heard in decent quality with the help of the music player, while the video player works fine with a 5-inch screen making the experience even more enriching. The device is compatible with the 3G technology, and is available in colors of Black and White. Applications like whatsapp, Gtalk, Google Search, Gmail and YouTube would be easily available for the user.
User Interface and UI functionality
Maxx AX8 Race has a big 5-inch display, but the same theme is not maintained with the resolution at just 320 by 480pixels. The screen is responsive and smooth, but the lack of higher resolution can be felt at times, from certain viewing angles.
Maxx AX8 Race has music and a video player for helping the user getting his or her hands on songs and videos. An FM radio for radio station access is also provided.
Pictures and Video quality
Maxx AX8 Race has a dominant 8-megapixel camera for clicking images. The powerful LED flash gives the user, a better and brighter background in darker surroundings. The 3264 by 2448pixels resolution is powerful enough to provide crisp and clear results. Video recordings are not as sharp but well within the acceptable range. Secondary camera is a little feeble with VGA strength, but its presence would not hurt the user's chances of getting some face time or making video calls.
Maxx AX8 Race has a fast Internet access. Web sites like YouTube do take a decent amount of time for buffering, but other sites like Facebook, Google are smooth to work with. Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot are provided, where the latter lets other devices to connect with the web wirelessly.
Internal and External Memory
The Maxx AX8 Race uses the 4GB internal memory for storing songs, videos, games, images and even movies on a large scale. If the memory space falls short of the user's expectations, then he or she can draw on the talents of the microSD card slot for augmenting the external memory of the device up to 32GB. A 512MB RAM is always going to be an iffy proposition, as it is difficult to qualify it as low or high.
Applications and Gaming
Maxx AX8 Race is a decent gadget to play games with Android Ice Cream Sandwich backing along with a 5-inch display. Temple Run is fun to play on Maxx AX8 Race, but bigger games are not without a few lags.
Maxx AX8 Race uses the 2300mAh standard lithium-ion battery to churn out a talk time of up to 6hours whereas, the standby time generated is up to 500hours. Both the figures are respectable, but a better talk time was expected.
Maxx AX8 Race holds loads of connectivity elements including Bluetooth, USB port, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot. The Wi-Fi hotspot is a great addition boosting the tethering facility for the device.
Maxx AX8 Race when compared to Karbonn S5 titanium has a similar screen size with 5inches but the responsive time is faster with the latter, and so is the resolution and pixel density. Both the devices have an 8-megapixel camera but the secondary camera is more powerful with Karbonn S5 Titanium with 2megapixels as compared to the VGA camera offered by Maxx AX8 Race. The Karbonn S5 Titanium runs on the Android Jelly Bean operating system while Maxx AX8 Race runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. The battery is stronger with Maxx AX8 Race as the 2300mAh standard lithium-ion power backup powers it, while Karbonn S5 Titanium has a 2000mAh power backup. The Maxx AX8 Race has a dual core processor while the Karbonn S5 Titanium has a much stronger quad core processor. The RAM is also high with Karbonn S5 Titanium with 1GB that is double of the 512MB given out by Maxx AX8 Race.
