Expert Review of Micromax Canvas 3D A115
It is the smartphone season again and it seems like this quarter would bring in many heavy sized devices. Big is better this season and that is what the Indian smartphone manufacturing brand Micromax is hoping to cash on. The company did a fantastic job with the last Canvas model with its big specs and economical size, and thus created eagerness among the consumers for the anticipation of the next one. But to avoid any confusion, Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is not an updated version or the next generation model of Micromax A116 Canvas HD. If anything, Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is more of a stripped down version of the same, and thus available at a lower price. The smartphone comes with an immense 5-inch 3D capacitive touch screen that has an 187ppi pixel density and a resolution of 480 by 800pixels for support. The display is certainly praiseworthy in terms of quality and clarity. The camera is 5megapixels that is more than useful when it comes to the quality of pictures, but we still prefer the 8megapixels offered by Micromax A116 Canvas HD. There is the LED flash facility as well apart from Geo-Tagging and autofocus. A VGA secondary helps too in terms of making video calls and web videos. Memory is served well with 4GB that comes built-in with the device although not all of it would be available for use. When feeling in need for more, there is always the microSD card slot to turn to that has the ability to augment the external memory of the device up to 32GB. What is a real bummer though, is the underperforming RAM of 512MB that would really jeopardize the speed of the gadget. The hardware apart from the RAM looks healthy with a dual core 1.2GHz processor.
The Software platform is as strong as it can be with the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system. The new operating system would come in handy when accessing apps from the web. The internet facilities are looked after by GPRS, EDGE, HTML5 browser and Wi-Fi wherein, web is fast and easy to access. There is also a USB port, which is version 2.0, and not 3.0, a minor setback, while Bluetooth stays up to date with the version 4.0. With dual SIM facility, Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is a combination of both utility and entertainment, allowing the user to have two numbers in an active state at the same time. Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is being manufactured in colors of Black and White just like most of the other premier devices from the high-end firms. The device looks more or less like the previous canvas model that kind of makes sense, since the design did work for them. Micromax Canvas 3D A115 also covers the entertainment aspect of the device pretty well with a music player and a video player along with the FM radio. But to use all this, the device needs to have a heavy battery back up too, and Micromax Canvas 3D A115 does get that with a 2000mAh standard lithium-ion battery but the talk time is disappointing with just up to four and a half hours while the standby time does not exactly blow us away either with up to 225hours. Overall, if one is short on budget, Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is not a bad bet at all.
User Interface and UI functionality
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 is another large sized smartphone that has a 5-inch 3D TFT capacitive touch screen that runs on a resolution of 480 by 800pixels and a pixel density of 187ppi. The latter is a bit low but so is the price of the device.
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 does a good job in enveloping the entertainment part of the device. The music player is a well-designed interface for the user to create a customized playlist of songs while the video player too provides great means for watching videos on a large 5-inch 3D capacitive touch screen. The FM radio also provides the user access to the latest songs that the entertainment world has to offer through radio stations.
Pictures and Video quality
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 uses the prowess of a 5-megapixel camera. The user can snap images at a resolution of 2560 by 1920pixels. Various features like auto focus, LED flash and geo-tagging accompany the device wherein, the autofocus is more for accuracy for the user while the geo-tagging facility enables the user to tag his or her friends in the photos clicked. Video quality is nice too, but is certainly not as good as HD. The device has a VGA secondary camera, which is okay when considered against the norms.
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 has a speedy web design with GPRS and WAP browser. The user can also use the Wi-Fi for exploiting nearby connections. Downloading is quick and the same can be said about web surfing. Apps like Facebook and Twitter are convenient to visit.
Internal and External Memory
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 has a 4GB internal memory comforted by the support of the microSD cards slot that has a 32GB expansion limit. In a gist, the user can store plenty of data like songs, games, images and videos without worrying about the memory space running out. The RAM is a little too low for our liking with 512MB, and should have been at least 1GB for proper functionality.
Applications and Gaming
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 has lots to offer in terms of games and apps with the 3D capacitive touch screen making it exciting and fun. The user gets to choose from a variety of options with the help of Android Jelly Bean operating system.
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 runs on the standard lithium-ion battery of 2000mAh that is powerful, and provides longer usage time for multimedia applications. But when it comes to talk time and standby time, Micromax Canvas 3D A115 falls short with up to 4hours and 30minutes for the former and 225hours for the latter.
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 uses the USB port for connecting to other devices via USB cable for charging or for data exchange. Other features include Bluetooth and Wi-Fi apart from GPRS and EDGE. There is also the facility of Wi-Fi hot spot that helps in making the device as an Internet hub and letting other devices connect through it.
Micromax Canvas 3D A115 when compared to Micromax A116 Canvas HD has the same screen size with 5-inches but the screen resolution and pixel density is much higher for the latter, thus making it sharper in appearance. Micromax Canvas 3D A115 has a 512MB RAM as compared to the 1GB RAM offered by Micromax A116 Canvas HD. Micromax Canvas 3D A115 has a 5megapixel primary camera whereas the Micromax A116 Canvas HD has a 8megapixel camera. The secondary camera is also stronger with Micromax A116 Canvas HD with 2megapixels while Micromax Canvas 3D A115 offers VGA strength for the same. The software platform is same for both the smartphones while the battery strength is also identical with 2000mAh.
