Expert Review of Micromax Ninja A89
As the high end companies prepare to fight with newer devices in the field, the tier2 companies also prepare their ammunition to come out with the more economical versions of the same. The companies like Micromax, Lava, and Karbonn have been slugging it out for a while now, and have produced some great devices that have had some reasonable success. If someone has to choose between the three brands, Micromax would probably come out on top with stiff competition from Karbonn. Apart from the very popular Canvas series, the Ninja series has done a respectable job in the market. The Micromax Ninja A89 comes with a 4-inch display that runs on the resolution of 480 by 800pixels and has an upright pixel density of 235ppi. So, the TFT capacitive touch screen is pleasant to look at in terms of image quality. The device has a 2GB internal memory but not all of it is usable, so a microSD card slot at the top of the gadget is pivotal for storing a larger amount of data. The RAM is of 512MB, which is good enough for the 1GHz dual core processor the Micromax Ninja A89 garners. This is not one of the fastest devices in its class but the smartphone is reasonably quick. Similarly, Android Ice cream sandwich, the platform that Micromax Ninja A89 has chosen, is not the latest version, but worthy of providing access to loads of games and applications. The camera leaves us in a bit of a tussle with mixed results. Micromax Ninja A89 has a 3.15megapixel camera that produces acceptable results indoors when the light is just about appropriate but when it comes to outdoor photography, the smartphone is not up to the mark. VGA quality videos are also nothing special while the secondary camera is absent. Internet is provided for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or other application access while downloading is also a safe alternative to go for. Connectivity features as a whole include GPRS, EDGE, USB port, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Available in the single color of Black, Micromax Ninja A89 is aided by the standard lithium-ion battery of 1450mAh that yields a weak talk time of up to 4hours along with a lowly standby time of up to 170hours. This is not the flagship device for the company and not a budget device either, so such kind of a poor performance in the battery department is a big letdown. The device has dual SIM which would act as a boon for those users who have been struggling to keep two numbers active at the same time previously. So with Micromax Ninja A89, the user gets entertainment and utility.
User Interface and UI functionality
Micromax Ninja A89 has a 4-inch TFT capacitive touch screen that is backed by the pixel density of 235ppi along with 256k colors. The resolution offered is 480 by 800pixels which makes the brightness and color accuracy pretty good.
Micromax Ninja A89 has a fantastic music player interface with compatibility with formats like MP3, AAC, WMA and WAV player. Earphone and loudspeakers are prominent ways to hear music while for hearing the music through FM radio; earphones have to be connected with the device through a 3.5mm jack. There is also the video player that jells along pretty well with formats like MP4, WMV, H.264 and H.263 player.
Pictures and Video quality
Micromax Ninja A89 comes with a 3.15megapixel camera that has a decent resolution of 2048 by 1536pixels. The pictures produced are not bad when it comes to a lighter background but when the intensity of the light increases, the quality of images start to blur. Video recordings are better in a quieter environment with VGA quality.
Micromax Ninja A89 has a GPRS and WAP browser that provide a good downloading and uploading speed. The user can download data at a decent pace including songs, games, images and videos. Wi-Fi for wireless Internet connection through different server is also provided.
Internal and External Memory
Micromax Ninja A89 can work with the microSD card slot in case of dire needs. The internal memory is not exactly weak with 2GB but it is also not the most reliable figure. So, when it runs out, the user can use the 32GB limit from the card slot to stretch the boundaries and store ample of data. The device has a RAM of 512MB that is adequate for the most part.
Applications and Gaming
Micromax Ninja A89 has tons of games and application access just like a lot of other Android devices. The user can enjoy apps like Whats APP, Viber or play games like Temple Run or Angry birds. With Ice Cream Sandwich, the user would enjoy tons of benefits but miss certain features that are only available with Android Jelly Bean.
A 1450mAh standard lithium-ion battery does not look sturdy to begin with, and the results are testimonial to that. The talk time is just up to 4hours while the standby time is also meek with up to 170hours.
Micromax Ninja A89 has the USB port for connecting the device with computers and laptops whereas the Bluetooth can also be used for wireless transactions. The GPRS, EDGE and Wi-Fi are important means to access the web.
Micromax Ninja A89 when compared to Karbonn A9 Plus has a similar screen size with 4inches. Karbonn A9 Plus has a faster processor while the display is also more responsive with it. Karbonn A9 Plus provides more internal memory with 4GB as compared to 2GB provided by Micromax Ninja A89. The RAM is same with 512MB while microSD card slot is available with both the gadgets. Camera is more powerful with Karbonn A9 Plus as it has a 5megapixel shutter as opposed to the 3.15megapixel shutter offered by Micromax Ninja A89. The Karbonn A9 Plus also has the flash facility that the Micromax Ninja A89 does not possess. Also, the battery strength is more with Micromax Ninja A89, but the standby time provided is more with Karbonn A9 Plus.
