Over all Review of Motorola Moto G 8 GB Black

Motorola Moto G 8 GB Black Price

Overall Review

Motorola Inc., an American multinational telecommunications company, has with its smartphone Moto G, tried hard to prove that you can get the experience of a flagship phone at a third of the prevailing market price. The company deals in a large variety of products like tablet computers, mobile phones, smartphones, two-way radios, networking systems, cable television systems, wireless broadband networks, RFID systems and mobile telephone infrastructure. Being an old player in the industry, it has now reached out to consumers worldwide and moves ahead at a significant pace.

Moto G does not sport much catchy looks or design but when held in hand, it provides you with a good grip. You can carry this smartphone all day long and can work on it for hours without feeling a burden on your wrists, for it is considerably light weight. The display is very clear but certainly, does not come under the phablet category. The screen resolution and the optimum contrast provide you with bright on-screen view, no matter what light conditions you are in. The touchscreen is pretty smooth with no complaints of any lag. You can either use the vibration mode or the MP3/WAV ringtones to keep you notified about the alerts.

To enhance your audio experience, Moto G provides you with a built-in loudspeaker and a 3.5mm audio jack. So, it is all upto you as to how you would like to enjoy your music and videos! It comes in two variants in terms of its storage capacity and you should choose the model very carefully while buying, for both these models do not have any microSD card slot for expansion of the memory. With this mobile, you are always connected to your network locally and globally and there is no chance of your missing any of the update(s) in your social circle. Along with all these features, it also offers an excellent camera, which allows you to take beautiful and noise-free pictures. To enjoy all these features, the company has shipped Moto G with a rather stout battery to keep it fit and running throughout the day.

User Interface and UI functionality

The dimensions of 129.9mm x 65.9mm x 11.6mm and a weight of 143 grams suggest that Motorola Moto G is very average in weight and can be easily carried for all day long. It hosts a 4.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of ~326ppi (pixels per inch). The display supports 16M colours and is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection from scratches and shocks. Though the screen size may seem smaller to you, especially in these times of phablets, at no point you will feel uncomfortable reading texts, e-books, watching videos or playing games. The bright and flawless on-screen view handles it all! The user interface is almost the same as it uses pure Android OS, but you will see many new features as it works on Android 4.4.2 version (KitKat). Hence, with Moto G, you get to experience one of the most advanced operating systems.

Multimedia features

Motorola Moto G's built-in music and video player offer for an excellent playback time. The music player supports all formats like MP3 and the video player supports formats of MP4, VC1, DivX, WMV9 and HD. The company has provided Moto G with an inbuilt loudspeaker along with a 3.5mm audio jack, so that you can enjoy your music and videos the way you want. It also offers FM radio so that you don’t miss even a single feature of the multimedia section.

Pictures and Video quality

Motorola Moto G's 5 megapixels primary camera at the rear offers a camera resolution of 2592 х 1944 pixels and allows you to satiate your photography instincts. Some features provided by this camera are autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, panorama, video recording at 720p@30fps (frames per second), stereo sound recording and HDR. This handset also offers a 1.3 megapixels secondary front camera so that you can enjoy clear self-clicks and video calling.

Internet support

Motorola Moto G supports all those features that can keep you connected to your network globally such as GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 2G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n apart from acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot, which means you can share your network with all other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Internal and External Memory

Motorola Moto G has an excellent RAM of 1GB, which suggests that with this handset, you can easily go for high-end games and multi-tasking. This model comes in 2 variants when talking of internal storage – one with 8GB and the other with 16GB - though both of them have RAM  of similar capacity. The only word of caution is to choose the variant carefully depending on your storage usage, for none of them supports microSD card slots, which means, once your space is exhausted, it cannot be expanded. The smartphone however, seems to have compensated this lacunae with its offer of 50GB of free storage space on Google Drive.

Applications and Gaming

Motorola Moto G proudly hosts a huge collection of pre–installed applications like accelerometer, proximity, compass, threaded view of text messages, MMS, Email, IM, Push Email, HTML5 enabled browser, FM radio with RDS, dual-SIM facility, AGPS support and GLONASS, Java MIDP emulator, SNS integration, Active noise cancellation with dedicated mic, MP4/H.263/H.264 player, MP3/eAAC+/WAV/Flac player, Document viewer, Photo viewer/editor, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Picasa, Voice memo/dial, Predictive text input etc. All the famous games can be downloaded from Google Play Store and numerous other applications can be downloaded for free from the Android store.

Battery Backup

Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad-Core 1.2GHz Cortex A7 and supported by Adreno 305 GPU, Motorola Moto G is fuelled by a non-removable Li-Ion 2070mAh battery, which provides a talk time of nearly 24 hours.

Connectivity Offered

Motorola Moto G provides many connectivity features to make you stay connected to your network all the time. The global connectivity features are GPRS, GSM, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, 3G and 2G, whereas the local connectivity features are Bluetooth v4.0 and micro USBv2.0 and USB Host respectively.

Compare

Motorola Moto G is certainly a top rival to many of the competing brands like Lava XOLO A500S, Nokia Lumia 525 and Samsung Star Pro. Moto G offers one of the most advanced operating systems, Android 4.4.2 KitKat as compared to XOLO A500S' Android 4.2. Not only this, Moto G also offers a better screen resolution and camera resolution than XOLO A500S. Moto G enjoys the bonus of dual-SIM facility, which is missing in Nokia Lumia 525. Also, Moto G offers a quad core processor as opposed to the dual core processor of Lumia 525. Moreover, Moto G offers a bigger screen than Lumia 525 and Samsung Galaxy Star Pro.

14 February, 2014: Motorola Moto G, released in November 2013 is available in 2 variants – one with 8GB and the other with 16GB of internal storage. This mid-ranged mobile holds the potential to give you an experience of a flagship mobile. It was launched with Android 4.3 version of the operating system and today, has been made upgradable to the latest Android 4.4.2 KitKat OS version. On its launch, the audience greeted it with a warm welcome and its sales are still on a roll. The smartphone's 8GB version is available at Rs. 12,499 and its 16GB version is available at Rs. 13,999 respectively. Its specifications are as under:

*        Dual-SIM facility to enable you to enjoy the best of the connection plans

*        4.5 inches display screen with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of ~326ppi

*        Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex A7, Adreno 305 GPU, Android 4.4.2 KitKat version

*        8/16GB internal storage capacity with 1GB of RAM and 50GB of cloud storage on Google Drive

*        Almost all connectivity features like EDGE, GPRS, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, 3G, 2G etc., to keep you connected,

         locally and globally

*        5MP primary rear camera along with 1.3MP secondary front camera

*        2070mAh battery that provides a talk time of up to 24 hours

*        Houses tons of pre-installed applications for a better user experience

Last year, we saw many mid-ranged phones that offered features comparable to a flagship phone but were seemed to be somewhat compromised in their quality. In such a milieu, Motorola, with its new outing has proved that there is no need to cut down on the quality aspect or the battery strength to have a flagship mobile experience. Motorola Inc., the American multinational telecommunications giant, which is very much active in segments such as tablet computers, mobile phones, smartphones, two-way radios, networking systems, cable television systems, wireless broadband networks, RFID systems and mobile telephone infrastructure, and earned a huge clientele spread worldwide has for now, introduced a new smartphone named Motorola Moto G and hopes it to hit the right notes to further boost its appeal in the market.

This handset offers a 4.5 inches IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a pixel density of ~326ppi (pixels per inch). The front of the display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 to protect it from scratches and pointed objects. The screen size is just optimum to bring to you a strain-free reading, playing or watching time. Even the weight of this smartphone is not too much and can be easily carried on person for all day long. To get alerts and notifications, you can either use the vibration mode or the MP3 or Wav ringtones. It also provides you the flexibility of enjoying your music with a built-in loudspeaker and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Motorola Moto G comes in 2 variants wherein, both the variants offer 1GB of RAM. This quantum of RAM is sufficient to go for high-end games and smooth multi-tasking. One drawback with 8/16GB variants is that none of them supports a microSD card slot. So, while you are buying this model, do check up your requirements for once the storage gets exhausted, you cannot expand it. However, the company also provides 50GB of free cloud storage on Google Drive, which can be seen as an effort to cover its only pit-hole. Its 5MP primary camera at the rear that offers a camera resolution of 2592 х 1944 pixels, allows you to take beautiful and stunning pictures with features like geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama.

You can go for clear and grain-free selfies and video calling with its 1.3MP secondary front camera. With Motorola Moto G, you are always connected to your network locally and globally with connectivity features such as Bluetooth v4.0, microUSB v2.0, USB Host, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hotspot, 3G, 2G etc. It has been introduced with Android 4.3 version (Jelly Bean) OS and now, is upgradable to Android 4.4.2 version (KitKat), thus providing you with the finest experience of working on one of the most advanced operating systems. Working on Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad core 1.2GHz Cortex A7 processor and supporting Adreno 305 GPU, this handset offers a non-removable Li-ion 2070mAh battery, which provides a talk time of nearly 24 hours. So, you can savor all these features throughout your working hours without worrying about being stranded in between.

Lastly, Motorola Moto G, though categorised in the mid-ranged segment, does offer some of the very fine features in the market and that too without compromising on the quality or the battery strength.
