User Interface and UI functionality
When it comes to the user interface and overall user experience in case of a basic entry-level handset, it just comes down to how easy it is to use that handset. In case of Samsung Champ Duos, it is also important that how easily this handset let users switch between the two SIM cards and distinct numbers to make or receive calls. We are glad to reveal this fact that like with most Samsung dual SIM phones, the Samsung Champ Duos is also very much capable of doing what is required. It is not a heavy handset and is extremely easy to hold. The phone can be held in one hand and used easily, particularly, with the help of the stylus that comes along with it.
The TFT touchscreen of the phone is sized at 2.65 inches and the color and contrast quality of the pictures attained on the handset is not that great, thanks to its resistive touch. However, Touch Wiz Lite user interface is embedded inside and there is enough scope for seamless operation of the device. Samsung has perfected this UI for use on most of its basic handsets, particularly, the dual SIM handsets.
The three touch-buttons below the touch display also operate easily with tap of the fingers and ease the effort of the user while making calls and scrolling through the menu. Overall, users will feel satisfied with the UI performance of Samsung Champ Duos.
Every effort has been made to make the user experience delightful while using the multimedia features of Samsung Champ Duos. Special mention should be given to the 3D surround sound technology used for giving an overwhelming audio effect to the users of Samsung Champ Duos.
There is stereo FM radio with RDS feature and a nice MP3 player in this dual SIM device. Also, one has access to a wonderful video player with ability to record, message and also stream. There is a 1.3 megapixels camera for clicking photos and shooting videos. All in all, every possible inclusion has been made to make the multimedia gallery interesting.
Pictures and Video quality
One has to bear with the 1.3 megapixels photo-shooter/camcorder of Samsung Champ Duos that merely is included to fill in a void that would have been hurting the eyes when looking at the specs list of this phone.
The stills clicked with this camera are visibly blurred and lack details, sharpness and color contrast. So also, is the case with the shot videos. The videos can’t be sometimes run on the video player of the phone itself. It is possible to do things but as far as the quality is concerned, it is missing.
The makers of Samsung Champ Duos have given the user’s access to Internet via the GPRS/EDGE network connection. However, one cannot connect to Internet via PC on this dual SIM device. The WAP2.0/HTML/xHTML web browser is embedded for the browsing. The Internet services are, however, poor because the speed isn’t good enough to support most of the processes. The JAVA script support is also poor in case of Samsung Champ Duos.
Internal and External Memory
Samsung Champ Duos has barely 50 MB of internal memory. The device also supports microSD cards for getting some external memory and can extend it to upper limit of 16 GB with these.
Applications and Gaming
It is not suggested that something very interesting be expected from an entry level handset’s apps and games section. Samsung Champ Duos is a simple dual SIM device with its share of pre-installed games and standard applications. However, there is nothing exceptional or novel available in this phone.
On the downside, there is no support for JAVA games and also applications can’t be minimized.
Samsung Champ Duos dual SIM phone has a standard Li-ion 1000 mAH battery which is sturdy enough to render a talk time of about 14 hours and 20 minutes and stand by time of up to 470 hours to the users.
There is primarily a Bluetooth and a microUSB v.2.0 in the Samsung Champ Duos for connectivity and data transfer. The Bluetooth version 2.1 with A2DP is used in this device but sadly it doesn’t transfer the data speedily. There is also Wi Fi support but that is again not very impressive.
Nokia C2 03 is an able competitor of Samsung Champ Duos. The Nokia C2 03 is a slider dual SIM phone and weighs a bit more. It runs the Symbian Anna operating system and boasts of improved text input, new icons, faster browser and latest Ovi version too. Except the Wi Fi support, Nokia C2 03 also enjoys every connectivity feature that Samsung Champ Duos boasts of. There is Bluetooth v2.1 and microUSB 2.0 and also GPRS/EDGE connectivity.
Nokia C2 03 has lesser on board memory but can expand it to 32 GB as against Samsung Champ Duos which can expand memory to only up to 16 GB via microSD card. The camera of Nokia C2 03 is slightly better and is rated at 2 megapixels against 1.3 megapixels camera of Samsung Champ Duos.
Price-wise, both these phones fall in the similar category and it is users discretion whether they prefer a touch phone with Wi Fi or a slider phone with numerical keypad while choosing their dual SIM phone.
