Expert Review of Sony Xperia ZL Black
The Phablet market has seen another heavyweight company (read Sony) to jump into the ‘Let's make huge Smartphones’ club by coming out with Sony Xperia ZL. This device offers a huge 5-inch screen and with this, Sony has now joined HTC with their Droid and of course, the company that started it all, Samsung with Samsung Galaxy Note series. There is access to 4G and 3G technology. Xperia ZL has the dimensions 131.6mm x 69.3mm x 9.8mm and weighs 151 grams whereas the 5-inch screen is shatter proof and scratch resistant. The device again comes powered by the Bravia engine 2 that has really boosted the display of all devices from Sony and has given it an elegant look. The 2GB RAM storage is very powerful which when combined with Quad-Core 1.5GHz Krait processor and the Jelly Bean Android operating system, enhances the speed multi folds. The internal memory of 16GB though huge is well cushioned with a microSD card slot that lets the user expand the memory to 64GB if required. The camera in Sony Xperia ZL is more than formidable with a colossal strength of 13 megapixels that works at a whopping resolution of 4128 x 3096 pixels.
There is also a 2 megapixels secondary camera to put the cherry on the cake. Internet can be accessed with pace and swiftness with the help of HTML5 browser along with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot. The device is also NFC capable with an Infrared port to back it up. The device also offers a TV output along with one touch mirroring and IR Remote. Multimedia features are well backed up by the music player, video player, and a radio FM with FM recording facility. Available in the colors of Black and white, Sony Xperia ZL is powered by the standard lithium ion battery of 2370mAH that gives a talk time of up to 10 hours along with a standby time of up to 500 hours.
User Interface and UI functionality
Sony Xperia ZL has a 5-inch TFT capacitive touch screen that gives a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels and 16 million colors along with a pixel density of 441 ppi. The screen can be interacted through the multitouch technology and protected by the shatter proof and scratch-resistant glass technology. The Sony Mobile Bravia engine 2 powers the screen and gives it a soothing touch.
Sony Xperia ZL has music and a video player where the music player gives the user access to all the desired songs that can be heard through the loudspeakers or through the earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5mm jack. The music player is compatible with formats like MP3, eAAC, WMA, WAV, and Flac player whereas the video player supports MP4, H.263, H.264, and WMV player. There is also a stereo FM radio with RDS that lets the user listen to all the popular radio stations.
Pictures and Video quality
Sony Xperia ZL sports a 13 megapixels camera that gives a resolution of 4128 by 3096 pixels and facilitates various features including autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, image stabilization, and sweep panorama. The secondary camera of 2 megapixels strength allows the user to do video chats and capture self-portraits.
Sony Xperia ZL is powered by various web connectivity features including Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot that make sure that the user can visit the desired websites including Facebook, Twitter or even check his or her mails for business or leisure purposes. Various data can also be downloaded including music files, games, images and videos as and when required. The Internet is pretty swift and quick. The user can open multiple tabs with no time lag.
Internal and External Memory
Sony Xperia ZL has an internal memory of 16GB that gives ample space to the user to store loads of data including music files, games, images, and videos without worrying about the memory space running out. In case the memory still does not suffice, the user can expand the external memory up to 64GB. A RAM of 2GB allows the user quick access to all resources of the system with smoothness.
Applications and Gaming
Sony Xperia ZL is well supported by the Android Jelly Bean operating system that lets the user access the huge pool of games and apps that world of Android offers. The user can download these apps and games as and when required from the Google Play Store. Some of the media applications that were updated recently are:

The battery further gives the user a talk time of up to 10 hours along with a standby time of up to 500 hours.
Sony Xperia ZL has loads of data connectivity features including NFC connectivity and infrared port. There is also a USB port, which makes sure that the user can connect with computers and laptops to exchange data with it. The Bluetooth lets the user connect wirelessly with other devices whereas the net connectivity features are also well backed up with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot.
Sony Xperia ZL when compared to HTC DROID DNA has the same screen size with both the devices featuring 5-inch screens though the former has Sony Bravia 2 technology while the latter has HTC sense UI 4 technology. The camera strength is better with Sony Xperia ZL with a 13-megapixel camera whereas HTC Droid DNA offers an 8-megapixel primary camera. Both the devices feature the Android Jelly Bean operating system but Sony Xperia ZL has slightly more powerful battery strength as compared to HTC Droid DNA.
