Expert Review of Karbonn TABLET
The budget devices are a rage these days, be it Android featuring smartphones or Android featuring tablets. The latter of the two is a segment of the market that has really taken a new turn in the recent time with the tier 2 companies like Karbonn and Micromax giving the high profile brands like Samsung and Apple a run for their money. Karbonn TABLET is another example of the same that features a 7 inch screen that gives a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels and is further backed by the 5 point multi touch capacitive touchscreen technology. The response time of the device is fairly quick at least when put in perspective with other budget tablets. The device runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, which is probably the best part of the device and the USP that would attract the customers towards it as it still falls well within the affordable range in terms of price. The Android ICS OS allows the user to access the latest of what the Android world of apps has to offer including the latest games.
The 1.2GHz processor should further help their cause and enrich the gaming experience with a snappy speed to access the resources of the system. As far as the storage capacity of the device is concerned, there is a 1GB internal memory which is rather less but the microSD card slot makes the device flexible in terms of memory thereby allowing the user to stretch the external memory up to 32GB. There is a music player and a video player that allows the user to access the latest of what the entertainment world has to offer in terms of songs and videos. The battery strength is strengthen by the presence of a 3,700 mAh standard lithium ion power back-up, which is better than Karbonn Smart Tab 3 that is also a 7 inch tablet from Karbonn but has a 2,600 mAh power back-up. Data connectivity features offered by the device include the Wi-Fi facility and the USB port. Some of the other features offered by the tablet includes Google Play, You Tube, Just Dial, Nibuzz, ET, Latitude, TOI, Karbonn Smart Browser, Karbonn Smart games, Google Maps, facebook, Downloads, Play TM, Gmail, E Mail and nexGTV.

Karbonn TABLET is backed by the standard lithium ion battery of 3,700 mAh, which is pretty formidable and makes sure that the user gets to operate on the device for a longer duration without his or her work being cut out in the middle. The user then gets up to 25 hours of continuous music play.
Karbonn TABLET has loads of data connectivity features with the WiFi facility making sure that the user can access the web and download videos, games, images and games. The USB port makes sure that the user can connect with laptops and computers to exchange data where the data may be music files, games, images and videos.
Karbonn TABLET when compared to Miromax Funbook tablet has a similar processor with 1.2GHz and operating system with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Both the device have a 7 inch screen and so is the resolution with 480 by 800 pixels. The camera quality is better with Karbonn TABLET with a 2 megapixels camera but Micromax Funbook has a VGA quality camera which is inferior to Karbonn TABLET. The battery capacity is again better with Karbonn with a standard lithium ion battery of 3,700 mAh, which is much more than the standard lithium ion battery of 2,800 mAh from Micromax Funbook. As a result Karbonn TABLET gives a operating time of around 7 hours which is more than the 5 hours offered by Micromax Funbook.
Karbonn TABLET Description
Karbonn is one of the first digital equipment manufacturers in the country, which has forayed into low-cost tablet market targeting the middle and low-end consumer base. The Karbonn tablet launched by the name - Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 is its first product in this series. Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 is an 18cm or 7.1-inches Android based tablet that runs on Google's IceCream Sandwich (4.0.3) operating system. Being a low-end tablet, the Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 does not feature a SIM card and hence, any calling facility is not built into it. The screen has 5-point multi-touch scratch-resistant capacity that gives a maximum resolution of 800 x 480pixels. The Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 runs on a fast and efficient 1.2GHz XBurst processor with 512MB of RAM and 1GB of internal storage with its memory capacity expandable up to 32GB via its microSD card slot.
In terms of design, it has all the necessary ports built into it - including a 3.5mm audio jack, HDMI, mini-USB, microSD, and charging socket. There are physical keys for power, options, home and enter on top left corner on its white back skin. With curvy dimensions of 12.1cm x 0.8cm x 19.3cm, Karbonn tablet weighs a heavy 295grams. Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 comes with some good optico-features built into it. There is a front facing 2MP camera that makes video chatting very easy but is not spectacular in terms of taking photos. Though it's quite a laughing matter that Karbonn has included a 2MP camera but no in-built SIM support for net browsing (except for USB dongles) which means that most of the users will be using internet only over the Wi-Fi thereby beating the purpose of having a Tablet in the first place. It supports many video formats such as MP4, AVI, MPG, 3GP, FLV, VOB, MPEG, WMV, MOV, MKV, TS, TP, M2TS, DAT, PMP ASF and also a number of audio formats like MP3, WMA, and WAV. The sound output though is dull and crackling. The device does not support High-resolution video-playback at all, let alone playing it.
Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 has several network connectivity features built into it, which includes Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and 2G/EDGE and 3G support via external USB dongle. The specifications of Karbonn Smart Tab 1 on various product-websites claim that it has built-in Bluetooth, but it does not have it for real. Apart from that, USB2.0 is provided for serial data transfer between Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 and any other USB2.0 compatible device. Karbonn Smart Tablet 1 has been pre-loaded with loads of applications including its proprietary Karbonn browser, Karbonn Games, personal battery, and file manager. Also included are apps like - Dhingana, NexGTV, Google Maps, Video Chat applications, Facebook, CatApp, and TOI among others. A 3700 mAh battery that gives an average music playtime of 12hours or video playtime of 4.5hours with a standby time of 220hours powers Karbonn Tablet. The display drains the battery very quickly and so the battery does not have a good life. The customer support is pathetic with no service centers available even in some Tier-I cities.
