Expert Review of Micromax Funbook Mini P410 Tablet
Micromax has been the first tier2 brand in the last few years to have created a commotion, and really made other high-end brands rethink on their strategies in the smartphone world. It was only after its market intervention that other brands started to follow with the likes of Karbonn and Lava being among them. But lately, things have been a little slow for the Indian brand for we have not seen as many smartphones or tablets as opposed to some of the other new entrants. Though in the tablet market, the company has done pretty well with the Funbook series being quite popular among the middle class consumers.
To carry the Funbook series forward, Micromax has Micromax Funbook Mini that features a 7 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen and rides on a resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels. In terms of color saturation and accuracy, the screen looks very good. The user can keep both 2G and 3G SIMs in the device at the same time in activated states with the help of the dual SIM facility which also translates into voice calling facility. The presence of 1GHz dual core processor and 1GB of RAM are important peripherals of hardware that ensure that the device provides high speed performance.
When it comes to software, there in nothing better than Android Jelly Bean 4.1, which even though is a little behind in sub versions, does well to permit access to all possible games and applications. The camera is alright as per tablet standards with a 2 megapixels primary shutter and a VGA front camera, both performing well by staying within the limitations of their prescribed strength. The latter would require internet access for using the web calling option and with Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE and HTML browser already preloaded in the device, the user does not have to worry about much.
The music and video players are the entertainment applications that can play songs and videos selected from their personalized list. To augment the collection of such entities, the user can go for the microSD card slot with 32GB scope. If not, the user can also stick to the 4GB built-in memory and do deletions and additions to the data, as and when the memory runs out. There is also the GPS facility that acts as a navigation system whereas Bluetoth and USB port act as data transaction systems. The power backup given is quite low from our view with 2800mAh standard lithium-ion battery that gives a weak standby and talk time.
User Interface and UI functionality
Micromax Funbook Mini hoards a 7 inches TFT capacitive touchscreen that comes with a reasonable responsive speed at a resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels. There are some angles from which, the user may experience some reflections that may be irritating but in totality, it is deemed okay.
Micromax Funbook Mini incorporates a music player for enjoying popular musical tracks and a video player for watching movies and videos. Various formats are compatible for both the applications as a 3.5mm audio pin is provided for connecting an earphone to the gadget.
Pictures and Video quality
Micromax Funbook Mini has a humble camera department with 2 megapixels primary camera that clicks pictures with a resolution of 1600 by 1200 pixels. Secondary camera is not that powerful either with VGA strength.
Micromax Funbook Mini has Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi hot spot as WLAN and tethering features. The user can download data at a fast pace and spread connection via the latter, for other devices to exploit internet services. Also, the device comes packed with features like GPRS, EDGE and HTML browser.
Internal and External Memory
Micromax Funbook Mini has a built-in supply of 4GB that can hold vigorous amount of data like songs, games, images and videos. For really expanding the memory range, the microSD card slot can be employed with 32GB capacity. RAM is acceptable too with 1GB permitting faster running of games and applications.
Applications and Gaming
Micromax Funbook Mini has lower number of pre-installed apps and games but the ones that are really popular these days such as Temple Run, F1 Race, and Angry birds, would have to be downloaded from the web with the help of Google Play Store. Some of the most used applications like WhatsApp and Viber can also be downloaded through the same means.
Micromax Funbook Mini is able to churn a talk time of up to 14 hours with the help of the 2800mAh standard lithium-ion battery. Multimedia usage time is good and so is the web surfing time although multiple tasks consume more power.
Micromax Funbook Mini comes with Wi-Fi hot spot which is the highlight of this department, whereas the other expected features offered here include GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, USB port, and Bluetooth. Data exchange and web accessing are pretty swift with the device.
Micromax Funbook Mini when compared to Karbonn TAFONE A34 has a similar sized display of 7 inches and both the gadgets have similar resolution as well. Micromax Funbook Mini has a dual core processor whereas Karbonn TAFONE A34 has a single core processor which means, the former has 100 per cent more processing power than the latter. The camera department is identical with both the tablets as they both have a 2 megapixels primary camera at the back and a VGA secondary camera at the front.
Micromax Funbook Mini provides a 2800mAh standard lithium-ion battery that is slightly behind the 3000mAh standard lithium-ion battery of Karbonn TAFONE A34.
