Over all Review of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 N5110 Tablet
Samsung has now been a telecommunication powerhouse for a long time now and the company has the highest market share in the number of smartphones sold. On one side, the Samsung Galaxy S series has been one of the most successful devices of 2012 and Samsung Galaxy S4 is the first device to feature the octa-core processor. So it is safe to say that as far as innovation and moving ahead in the technological aspect are concerned, Samsung is second to none. Their tablet segment, on the other hand, has not been as successful as their smartphone ventures. Not to say that they have done well here, but somewhere same kind of success has not translated here. But things may change with Samsung Galaxy Note 510 that has an 8 inch TFT capacitive touch screen, which is a bummer as a super AMOLED LCD display is what was least expected by the users for it to be chosen over an Apple gadget. The pixel density is 189ppi, which is again nothing out of this world. As far as the dimensions of the device are concerned, it has a length of 210.8mm, a breadth of 135.9mm and a height of 8mm. The device weighs 338 grams and is available in two variants, as far as internal memory is concerned, with 16GB and 32GB while a microSD card slot is also available with up to 64GB capacity.
The RAM is also pretty well stacked with 2GB, which in combination with a quad-core 1.6GHz Cortex A9 processor gives a snappy device. Internet is also fast with the device being backed by the whole package of Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot and DLNA. GPRS and EDGE technology along with the HTML5 browser can only help matters. One of the unique features that this tablet carries on from the previous version is the facility to accommodate voice calling as there is a slot for SIM as well. Rounding up the data connectivity features, we have a Bluetooth, infrared port and a microUSB port along with a USB host. There is a significant improvement in the camera department as the device features a 5 megapixels primary camera that is powered by the image stabilization technology along with a 1.3 megapixels secondary camera for video calling. The device runs on the brand new Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 operating system and is powered by the standard lithium ion battery of 4,600mAh, which is big and gives up to 8 hours of talk time but more importantly up to 120 hours of music play time. The device is available in the colors of black and silver white and offers lots of other features like TV-Out, a Predictive text input (Swype), a Document editor/viewer, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk, Picasa etc. Multimedia features are also plenty with a music player and a video player that support multiple formats. The device supports both 3G and 4G technologies.
User Interface and UI functionality
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 has an 8 inch TFT capacitive toucscreen that gives 16 million colors along with a resolution of 800 by 1280 pixels while pixel density is 189ppi. The screen is further backed by the multitouch technology but otherwise its disappointing to see the lack of Super AMOLED LED display with the tablet.
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 offers a music player that can be used to listen to songs through the earphones or through the loudspeakers. The earphones has compatibility with the 3.5mm jack while the formats supported are MP3, WAV, eAAC+, Flac player. The video player lets the user watch desired videos and watching them on an 8 inch screen is a complete fun and full of entertainment. The video player is compatible with the formats - MP4, DivX, Xvid, FLV, MKV, H.264 and H.263 player.
Pictures and Video quality
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 has a 5 megapixels primary camera which is backed by autofocus, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection and image stabilization features. The user can click pictures at a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels. There is also a secondary camera with 1.3 megapixels to back it up, which can be used for web chats and video calls. Videos can be shot through the primary camera as well.
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 has the HTML5 browser along with the Wi-Fi facility to access the Internet. There is also the Wi-Fi hot-spot that enables the user to use the device as an Internet hub and connect other devices to the web as well or use other devices with Internet connections to surf the web. Dual band, Wi-Fi direct and DLNA supports are also provided.
Internal and External Memory
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 has an internal memory of 16GB or 32GB, depending upon the variant one chooses, but both the devices have the microSD card slot for extending the external memory of the device up to 64GB. The user can then keep a large collection of data including songs, games, images and videos. The RAM is 2GB, which should speed up things as far as operating on the device is concerned.
Applications and Gaming
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 has lots of games that will come pre-installed in the device while the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 operating system, being the latest operating system from Android, will offer a huge collection of games and apps to further choose from.
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 runs on the standard lithium ion battery of massive 4,600mAh that produces a talk time of up to 8 hours that also includes using multimedia applications, which is pretty sweet. The user can also listen to continuous music for up to 120 hours.
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 offers tons of data connectivity features including the bluetooth and the USB port. There is a infrared port as well while the GPRS and EDGE technologies are provided as usual. The Wi-Fi is pretty well backed up with the latest DLNA, Wi-Fi hot-spot also available for strengthening the Internet capabilities.
Samsung Galaxy Note 510 when compared to Apple iPad Mini has a bigger screen, but not by much, with the former featuring an 8 inch screen, which is slightly ahead of the latter's 7.9 inches. Samsung Galaxy Note 510 however has a TFT capacitive touchscreen whereas iPad Mini has a much superior IPS LCD display. The processor however is more powerful for Samsung Galaxy Note 510 with a quad-core 1.6GHz machine as compared to the dual-core 1GHz offered by iPad Mini. There is again a stark difference in the RAM offered with Samsung Galaxy Note 510 providing a 2GB RAM as compared to 512MB offered by iPad Mini. Operating system is Android Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy Note 510 as compared to iOS6 provided by Apple iPad Mini. Other features are more or less the same.

Samsung, the South Korean giant, has always been able to hit bulls-eye with their gadgets, specially when it comes to their Galaxy series.
