Canon G1 X Mark II features a newly developed CMOS sensor and in surface area, is 1.5 inches less than the original G1 X. The width and height of the sensor are 18.7mm and 12.5mm respectively with an effective megapixel count of 13.6. The camera has been paired with a new DIGIC 6 image-processing engine and features a new lens on the body. The burst mode speed is 5.2 frames per second, up from 1.9 fps. The max aperture at wide end is a bright f/2.0 and f/3.9 at telephoto position. Also, the aperture is 9 blades up from the 6 blades in the original. The camera comes with an enhanced AF speed and with 31 AF points. The camera focuses on a minimum distance of 5 cm, which produces nice shots when it comes to macro photography. There is no optical viewfinder and the camera can be added with EVF-DC1. Moreover, its LCD panel aligns with the 3:2 aspect ratio of the camera. There are three dots per color and the total dot count is 1040k dots.
Shutter speed, ISO sensitivity, exposure modes, flash, metering and others are same as in that of its predecessor. There are some new options to the mode dial like Hybrid Auto and Creative. The latter also provides for auto, retro, monochrome, special and natural categories. The camera does have the pop flash and a hotshoe for accessories. The touch sensitive screen has a capacitive touch overlay and the electronic viewfinder comes with a resolution of 2.36 million dots. G1 X Mark II features NFC connectivity that works best with smart devices that run on Android platform. The camera shoots videos in Full resolution, 1080p and covers that with frame rate of 30 frames per second. There is new NB-12L Li-ion battery with which, you can get 240 shots and with optional EVF, you can get 200 shots. Given the ECO mode, 300 shots can be taken, as it saves energy. The camera stores stills and videos on secured digital cards whereby SDXC/SDHC cards can be used. The options for connectivity include USB data, high-def micro HDMi and standard-def composite NTSC/PAL video out. Overall, the camera is aimed at the enthusiasts.
Design and Build Quality
Canon G1 X Mark II appears better than its predecessor does, for it comes with a more modern quality look. There is grip at the side of the camera to be sold attached only to the European models. The grip is very usable as it makes the use of the camera quite convenient. G1X Mark II features two customizable rings wherein, both can be assigned any of the two apt functions. With one, you can set the shutter speed and with another, you can change the aperture. At the roof of the camera, there is a mode dial for swapping between numerous modes like auto and semi-auto modes involving shutter and aperture priority.
There are options for two groups of custom setups that help when you are shooting a particular type of scene. Most part of the rear is covered by 3 inches wide touchscreen. There is a 4 way navigational pad too. The LCD is a capacitive one, like the one you would find on an iPhone. You can playback images by swiping along or through point and focus. There is a button dedicated to Wi-Fi. The application does not let you control much, so you'd have to adjust the camera before the shoot begins.

Canon G1 X Mark II, since it comes with a new processor, has a remarkable autofocus speed. This makes the overall operational speed quicker as well. The AF points here include 31 points. For macro shots, the minimum distance is 5cm.
Lens and Image Stabilization
Canon G1 X Mark II comes with 5x optical zoom lens that has, in 35 terms, a focal length range of 24-120mm, where the upper end counts for wide-angle position and the lower end counts for telephoto position. This zoom range features maximum aperture of f/2 at the wide-angle end and f/3.9 at the telephoto end. There is also a new 9-blade aperture. The camera also offers image stabilization.
