Overall Review

The camera is portable, slender and one that fits in your pocket. Fujifilm FinePix JZ100 is feature packed and pretty looking, first and far most the camera houses a 14.0 megapixel resolution CCD image sensor that works efficiently to give you beautiful and quality images. Further the camera has a 8X optical zoom lens with a 35 mm equivalent focal length giving you plenty of space to click large group photos or even close up Macro shots, as close as 5cm. More so you can record full HD videos at 720p at 30fps. For more stabilized photos and videos the camera caters High ISO and even the Optical Image stabilization. All these gorgeous photos and videos can be previewed on the clear TFT 2.7 inch LCD screen. To top it all, the camera comes with an effective focus system and other features like face detection, self timer, portrait, Landscape, Macro etc. The camera comes with a Flash and you can change between it and choose to shoot in Natural light or with it. It is compatible with SD, SDHC and SDXC cards giving you quite some options. Furthermore, you have white balance features like Auto, fine, shade, warm white etc. With its easy use and even creative features this camera is friendly to use and even budget friendly. It’s the one for every occasion and can be fitted into your jeans. For amateurs alike, this is a good buy.

Design and Build Quality

Fujifilm FinePix JZ100 is an impressive compact digital camera. It is sleek, slender and beautifully rounded at the edges. It weighs only 129 grams with the battery and memory cards included, making it an easy carry everywhere at anytime. It is only 23.9 mm deep with 55.9 mm height and 100.3 mm of width in measurement. Fujifilm have made the camera pocket friendly and to add to its style it comes in very vibrant and unique six colors: Starting from Red, Black, Silver, Pink, Blue and even purple.

Focus and Face Detection

The AF/AE activates, detects and locks your subject once you’ve pressed the shutter button halfway through. It is seemingly the most effective if the subject isn’t precisely at the frame’s centre. There is also present in FujifilmFinePix JZ100 the very fast Tracking Auto Focus, the brilliant thing about this feature is that it does not only keeps constant focus with the frequently moving subjects within the frame and it does so even at an 8x extended zoom thus being useful with close up photos. Further you see Simple Point and Shoot modes under which pre-set shooting modes and settings make work easy for you and eliminate the fuss of changing settings depending on the different environment conditions and deliver the best pictures. Moreover the SR AUTO works automatically by recognizing the scene and selecting the proper settings which go with it. Fujifilm FinePix JZ100 can detect scenes as Portrait, Landscape, Night, Macro, Night Portrait and Backlit Portrait, hence giving you a wide range of possible scenarios to work with. Face detection too is a given, with this the camera can detect as many as nice faces in a single frame which is idyllic for group photos etc. Within this feature the settings are automatically optimized.

Lens and Image Stabilization

Inside the camera you will find a high quality Fujinon 8x optically magnified lens. This comes with a 25 mm wide angle lens together with a focal length of 4.5 – 36.0 mm, that is, 35 mm equivalent to 25 – 200 mm. The lens can be further zoomed to 6.7x digitally. The picture outcome is great even when zoomed and wide angle allows close up photos, in fact the camera is capable of Macro shooting as close as 5 cm to the subject that turn out vibrant and detailed. Two things help the camera take powerful and steady shots, one being High Sensitivity and the second Optical Image Stabilization. In low light specially Fujifilm FinePix JZ100 produces accurate photos thanks to the High ISO up to 3200, while the lens shift image stabilization eliminate blurs caused due to camera shakes to keep the pictures unaffected by haziness.

Screen and Menus

Embracing most part of the camera’s rear is a large and bright LCD display. The 2.7 inch 230,000 resolution screen is pretty impressive for previewing and composing photos. As compare to its successor the screen comes with an increased brightness. Playback is not only enjoyable but simple, through the search function, slideshow and micro thumbnails. You can also preview photos categorized by date, scene, face even and many more options.

Battery

The NP-45A rechargeable lithium ion battery is the running power behind the camera; it is capable of taking good 180 shots. Keeping company to the battery is the memory card. The camera is compatible with SD, SDHC OR SDXC memory card.

Video Mode

It is easy to record videos with Fujifilm FinePix JZ100 primarily cause of its dedicated recording button, and with once click you are ready to record full HD movies. In 16 : 9 format i.e. 1280 x 720 pixels. But it can be altered down to 640 x 480 pixels and 320 x 240 pixels, all this at 30 frames per second. You are free to use the optical zoom operation while recording a video but sadly there won’t be any sound recording when you use optical zoom. Further, if shutter button is pressed in video mode focus is fixed. The given Lens Shift Image Stabilizer cooperates fully to provide precision in video mode. You can record up to 2GB of video/29 mins or even 37 mins in highest resolution but on an 8GB SDHC card.

Sensors

Complimenting the Fujinon optics is the powerful 14 megapixels 1/ 2.3 inch CCD image sensor with its primary color filter. The result is very impressive with fine details and sharper images. These can be printed and cropped even with assurance on the quality and sharpness.

Pros

The camera excels in its simple operations and its acclaimed zoom lens.

Cons

The camera comes with rather few features and at times you can experience red eye issues. Plus there is no audio in zoomed video mode.
