Fujifilm X T1 Black - Expert Reviews
Fujifilm X T1 has been released with enhanced autofocus speed and performance. The focusing speed is the world’s fastest as per the company by .08 seconds. The burst mode is of 8fps with AF and the phase detection focus comes inbuilt to the sensor. It is the first camera that is compatible with the SDXC UHSII memory card and promises memory storage twice as fast as the existing models. There are five mechanical dials, aluminum dials for shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation and drive modes. There are two function buttons and two command dials. The four-way controller can be customized to perform in every direction. The Fujifilm remote Wi-Fi app allows the user to shoot from connected smartphones and tablets. Other features that you can use after linking the camera with your smart device are touch AF, exposure compensation, shutter release, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, timer, film simulation modes and flash. X T1 surely is a showstopper and is best for the professionals.
Design and Build Quality
Fujifilm X T1 features a drive mode dial under the ISO speed dial that includes shooting modes like advanced and sweep panorama. There is a shutter speed dial under which lies the metering mode dial. Both, ISO and shutter speed dials have buttons in the centre that must be pressed before turning the dials. The top Fn button is for Wi-Fi default and there is a dedicated button for video recording. The EVF is large with dioptre adjustment. It is clean in working, quite bright with saturated colours. The rubber grip at the front and rear makes the hold on the camera quite comfortable. At the side, memory card can be accessed and at the front, you can access function button, command dial, flash sync, focus switch and lens release.
Focus and Face Detection
Fujifilm X T1 has the following focusing modes; autofocus, manual, spot, face detection, multi and centre. You can also use the digital split image. Focus peaking is also available with options such as white, blue (high/low) and red. Focus points are 49 and the size of the focus can be managed. The focus is quite quick, should the lens gets updated with the latest firmware.
Lens and Image Stabilization
Fujifilm X T1 comes with a 18-55mm lens. The detail of the prime lenses is quite good. Also in the corners, the level of detail is good. When the lens is updated with the latest firmware, it attains the advantage of lens modulation optimization. It is built in the camera to produce sharp images when small aperture is used. The exposure can be trusted upon leaving some of the conditions like when in the middle of the dark lit background, a bright subject has been placed, and if you change the metering mode or the exposure compensation, you solve the defect. The controls on the body of the camera help to solve this issue. The macro performance is remarkable from the 60mm f/2.4 macro lens. Image stabilization comes with lenses only.
Screen and Menus
Fujifilm X T1 offers menu system that has setup and photo options quite clearly segregated over numerous color coded screens. An additional control panel can be accessed using a Q button at the rear in combination with the 4-way controller and scroll wheel. The Q button is easily approachable. You can also easily set up options. The monitor is 3 inches wide with tilting capability and sports a resolution of 1040k dots.
Fujifilm X T1 comes rated with 350 shots as per CIPA/Fujifilm testing standards. For more on battery life, you can either buy a second battery or use the weather sealed battery grip. The battery used here is a Li-ion NP-W126 one and the battery charger that comes with the bundle is called BC-W126. The optional battery grip - the vertical one comes weather sealed and is designed to balance the camera, so when you attach the telephoto and large diameter lenses, you can gain steady shots. This battery grip includes a shutter release button, AF-L, AE-L, twin command dials and focus assist buttons.
Fujifilm X T1 records videos in Full HD resolution at 60 frames per second along with stereo sound. There is a mic as well, though it is of 2.5mm jack instead of the standard 3.5mm. One can see moire effect in some videos. For best results, it is recommended that you use the camera hand-held and turn optical image stabilization on. The video frame size is of 1920 x 1080 for Full HD and for HD, it is 1280 x 720 pixels. The frame rate used is 60fps. You can use optical zoom too while recording video.
Fujifilm X T1 offers a CMOS APS-C sized sensor with a resolution of 16.3 megapixels. The height and width of the pixels are 4896 and 3264 respectively. Also, the width and height of the sensor are 23.6mm and 15.6mm with aspect ratios as 16:9, 1:1 and 3:2. The ISO sensitivity range begins from ISO100 and goes as far as up to ISO 51200 equivalent. The previous model, X-E2, featured the end of this range up to ISO 25600. Noise reduction could be set to -2 to +2.
The noise reduction settings can be changed better when you are using RAW files mode to capture images. The settings for H1 and H2 over ISO dial can set as per your choice. If not customized, the default settings remains at ISO12800 and ISO25600, respectively. Up to ISO1600, the noise levels are unbelievably low. Detailing is up to ISO3200 and by ISO6400, it drops with the increase in noise. At high ISO, the performance is impressive as compared to X-E2 camera's performance in the same region. ISO25600 may be usable in some situations though ISO51200 should be ideally avoided.
