Overall Review

Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot is a digital camera that features wide-angle optical zoom up to 26x at quite an affordable price. Image sensor is of 16-megapixel that is coupled with super-zoom lens and covers four automatic anti-blur functions to assure detailed and defined images when zooming closer to the subject. It is an easy to use versatile camera. Creative photographers will certainly enjoy catching stills and video. Being powered by four rechargeable and replaceable AA batteries, the camera is ideal for hangouts. The zoom lens ranges from 22.5mm to 585mm, which makes is powerful enough to catch distant action shots and vast vistas, to stunning group shots. As stated, there are many functions that beat the blur namely, Motion Detection, Vibration Reduction, and the Best Shot Selector. The latter picks best pic out of ten serial shots. The Anti-Blur technologies with a 16MP sensor and high ISO up to 1600, delivers you clean and clear imaging performance.

Coming to video recording, the camera can shoot video at 720p HD resolution through a dedicated movie button wherein, all the framing and composing can be done through 3 inches wide 230k dot LCD monitor. There are 18 scene modes and given the scene, the camera picks up from among the 18 modes and configures the settings corresponding to the scene such that the user gets the best. The L320 sports the smile timer to catch the image of subject when smiling. The eye blink detection and skin smoothening function plus red-eye correction comes as standard features. The images come out of EXPEED C2 image processor that is compatible with Eye-Fi X2 cards and above. The data transfer can be done over a Wi-Fi connection. The firm also claims that the camera is perfect travel companion.

Design and Build Quality

The look and feel of Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot is like of small DSLR. The camera has a cheeky rubberized handgrip and a rubber pad at the rear for the thumb to rest. Over the barrel of lens, there is a switch for altering the focal length. You can also manage the zoom using the rocker for it. There is a button to enable the pop up flash along with a button for on and off. At the back, you have the button for recording movie, playback, scene mode, delete, and menu. There is D pad and OK button for navigating through the menus. The buttons on D pad can be used to fix flash, self-timer, exposure, and macro. You can view the pictures even when the camera is off by pressing and holding the playback button. The menu is easy to navigate. You can set almost everything by the menu button. The 3 inches wide screen is bright and clean and has a low resolution of 230k dots. The battery can provide 310 shots on a single charge. The responsiveness of the camera from shot to shot is admirable.

Focus and Face Detection

Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot locates the face then switches onto the portrait mode and switch to the face detection with flash provided it is in the up position. While recording videos, you can shoot zoom in and out freely, even check sharpness. The minimum focus distance is of 1cm that is, good for macro shots. There are two focusing modes; AF and, Face detection and center wherein, the AF is of contrast-detect type.

Lens and Image Stabilization

The high power NIKKOR lens zooms optically up to 26x. The focal range reaches from 22.5 – 585mm. You can shoot from wide-angle to super-telephoto cover, from vistas to distant action to group shots. The camera has a CCD sensor with four anti-blur functions. There is lens-shift VR wherein, Vibration Reduction works for Image stabilization. Motion detection compensates for the subject and camera movement in Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot.

Screen and Menus

The screen is of 3 inches wide and has 230k dot LCD. Whether you shoot under bright sunlight or low light, the high-resolution, anti-reflective coating offers several viewing angles. The D pad and OK button are easy for surfing through the menus. Menu system is easier to navigate. You can set almost everything via the menu button. Main menu of Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot can be accessed by menu button at the back. There are three tabs at the left that can be accessed by stressing left over the navigation in order to flick through the camera, setup menus and video. The shoot menu is depicted by green camera and has only five options, they alter the way the device takes pictures.


The battery is located at the bottom of Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot. You get four rechargeable replaceable AA batteries. Under CIPA rating, you can have 310 shots on these alkaline batteries. So before change, you can take the camera out for a day or two without worries. With Lithium-ion batteries, you can catch up to 810 shots and with EN-MH2 batteries, you can catch 450 stills.

Video Mode

The video record button sits on the shoulder of the Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot, so it can be used directly. The video mode has been removed to emphasize on the button. The video can only be recorded in 720p HD resolution only. You can also avail of the optical zoom function while recording. The frame size or the aspect pixels display 1280x720. There is no stereo sound and the video can capture at the frame rate of 30fps only.


The sensor is 1/2.3-inches CCD type. Megapixel count offered here is 16.44 million. The pixels width is of 4608 and height is of 3456. The aspect ratio is 4:3 and 16:9, as per the settings of the camera. Nikon Coolpix L320 Advance Point and Shoot catches the smallest detail and lets you crop images and even get poster-size images.
