Nikon Coolpix P330 Point & Shoot Digital Camera Black - Expert Reviews
Nikon Coolpix P330 Advance Point And Shoot is a premium compact. The camera manages to house a 12MP, 1/1.7-inch sized CMOS sensor. This comes backed by EXPEED C2 image processing engine and Nikon's second generation vibration reduction system that avoids camera shake. Full manual control can be availed also you can avail semi-automatic shoot modes like shutter and aperture priority. Along with scene modes, full auto shoot modes can too be used. You can even shoot pictures in RAW format but writing a RAW format file takes time. Though the Wi-Fi doesnt come in-built, the camera is compatible with Nikon's Wu-1a wireless transmitter. There is GPS functionality, you can geo tag the images with location data.
A optical zoom lens with power 5x sits at front and flaunts the maximum aperture of f/1.8. In 35 mm equivalent terms, you have a focal length range of 24-120mm. The lens system is made of HRI glass and it features a seven-blade iris diaphragm which helps to produce nice background defocus. There is an ND filter in-built that helps to expand exposure control in well lit conditions. Digital zoom levels are up to 10x. At the rear there is a 3 inches wide, 921k dots LCD screen. There is no viewfinder or hotshoe or any other port to avail a viewfinder, LCD is all you have. The given processing engine helps in both Full HD video recording and shooting inside ISO sensitivity range 100-3200. Manually this range can be expanded to 12800 and vidoes can be recorded at 25, 30, 50, 60fps. The AF system is 99 point on Nikon P330. You can also use full time AF tracking for shooting moving subjects. Burst goes as this, upto 10fps for 10 full resolution shots and for 30 full resolution shots you can avail speed 1fps. The creative mode s are 180 degree or 360 degree panoramas, monochrome and 3D shoot mode. There are no digital filters that can be used while shooting but retouch menu lets you advance on your photos are they have been captured like adding selective color, cross screen effects etc. you can process RAW files as well. Overall this point and shoot is giving good competition the contemporary cameras in the same range.
Design and Build Quality
Nikon Coolpix P330 Advance Point And Shoot comes with a compact square design, it is an update to P310 and not much has changed between the releases of the two. The metallic body feels quite well built and can be availed in White or Black color. Battery and memory card compartment is made of plastic and is flexible. At the front there is a small textured rubber and at th rear there is a reasonable sized rubber area. Inspite of the square design, the camera is a compact and can fit easily in to your pocket or purse. Nearby the lens there is a Fn/Function button that can be customized and at the top there is a control wheel that lets you alter the settings in a click. Around the scroll wheel, at the rear, there is access to flash, exposure compensation, macro, self-timer and on OK middle button. A mode at the top lets you access shooting options. Also featured is a customizable U user mode. At the rear side there are dedicated buttons for playback, delete and video recording. The menu button lets you cover almost all camera settings. P330 offers a complete set of manual controls. Whats not here is the flexibility with power button, which is small and recessed in to the roof of the camera.
Focus and Face Detection

Minimum focus distance that can be achieved is 3cm, meaning you can take good macro, frame filling shots. The AF system is 99 point. The speed of this system is little slow and it does take time to lock onto a subject. Given that lens is of maximum f/1.8 aperture, it means that depth of field is shallow and you can get creative and attractive shots. A drop off in focus is quite pleasing and you can achieve good shots, you can have same experience with Bokeh shots.
Lens and Image Stabilization
Nikon Coolpix P330 Advance Point And Shoot has following lens dynamics. Optical zoom up to 5x and maximum aperture range being f/1.8 – f/5.6 . The focal length range, in its 35mm equivalence is 24mm – 120mm. The lens performs well at both the ends, wide-angle and telephoto. If you observe closely, the far away corners can show some smoothening effects, otherwise the images are acceptable. The lens does show both types of pincushion and barrel distortion but vignetting is eliminated. Purple fringing is dominant in shots above the tree, though in daily use it too doesn't cause much problem. Dynamic range and exposure are mostly better and can be extended in lot of ways, either by using D-lighting, high dynamic range(in-built) and auto-exposure bracketing. Macro performance of the camera is good, it is just 3 cm from the front lens. When you turn to macro focus, the camera assumes an apt zoom position that gets displayed with green arrow on monitor. Coming to image stabilization, it strives when you are shooting in low light or if you are not using a tripod. At telephoto end the IS does good job.
