Nikon Coolpix S9300 Point & Shoot Digital Camera Black - Expert Reviews

Overall Review

Nikon COOLPIX S9300 is wide angled, 25-450 mm Nikkor lens sporting camera with an amazing 16MP sensor. This combination proves to be significant for capturing a large group of people or huge landscapes even from a short distant, with ample clarity and accuracy. With an 18x optical zoom, it makes one certain to catch far off objects with ease, that too with capable features that will preserve the photo’s sharpness, thus giving you smooth zoomed in photos. The camera further is capable of recording high-definition videos at a great 1080p resolution that is worded to provide you with true-to-life recordings. This beautiful camera supports different filter effects, allowing your creativity to flow and being captured. There also is given a lens shift vibration reduction function (VR) that tackles shakes to produce best blur-free photographs. The ISO sensitivity can reach a high of 3200 and helps the camera take spotless pictures, with great quality even if the conditions surrounding you aren’t lit well. This with other spontaneous features like: High-speed continuous shooting that captures 6 shots in approximately one second at full resolution; and fun Filter effects that can be applied after the still shot has been taken; these include Soft, Selective color, Cross Screen, Fisheye, Painting and Miniature. Furthermore, cheeky features like Scene modes that include Scene Auto Selector which automatically optimize camera settings for best results. The list is pretty endless, with Panorama, self shots, face detection etc all fantastic features are your finger tips ready to be played around with. The camera is a stellar!

Design and Build Quality

The camera sports a certain vintage look to it, and with this rugged outlook, one with a sense of edge can’t miss out on this. There is certain thickness in the model, but not something that will worry you. The overall approximate dimensions of the camera are between 108.7mm x 62.3mm x 30.6mm. This together with a reasonably light weight of 215 grams, including batteries and the SD memory card, is a joy for people who love a camera that is portable. Easy to carry, the build is perfect for one to slide in your purse or be held in your hand. Available in varying colors from Black, blue to red and grey; the camera gives you the freedom to flaunt your favorite color. The build is certainly best suited for families out on holiday, wanting to carry smaller and lighter cameras yet still be able to enjoy taking pictures.

Focus and Face Detection

For this camera in particular the focus range starts at 50 cm to infinity in wide to 1.5m to infinity. The macro mode can close up to a fascinating 4 cm. The focus lock is a given, a handy feature for amateurs and pro’s alike. Once you press the shutter it takes no more than 3 seconds for the camera to clear the air and bring forth your eyes the best cut out photographic settings. Subject tracking is also a given, that works continuously to focus and track any designated subject. You can also individually focus on people, with the face priority feature.

Lens and Image Stabilization

For the lens, Nikon COOLPIX S9300 caters a far reaching 18x optical zoom, this is boasted well with a 25-450mm wide angle. The Nikkor ED glass lens has its upside, providing you one with the ease of shooting large landscapes, group shots, etc., with broader access to distant subjects. The added joy comes with the optical VR image stabilization feature, which is there to reduce blurriness while capturing pictures and even while recording videos. Thus, providing you with the best possibly accurate photographs and videos. This combination of a brilliant lens and an active performance of the VR Image Stabilizer, gives even the amateur photographer a great chance to explore the joy of photographing while having to fuss little about the quality.

Screen and Menus

As for the screen, Nikon showcases an amazing 3-inch 921k dot high resolution LCD screen. The Nikon’s Clear Display technology is active and allows the screen to be vibrant, highly visible and accurate even during sharp sunlight surrounds you. Added advantage sails through the wide viewing angle that lets you and those who accompany the photographs and videos with you, to have the same viewing experience i.e. radiant and clear. The menu itself is a little behind the times. Rather than using an overlay menu that continues to display the Live View feed from the lens. Nikon COOLPIX S9300 has a full screen menu from which you can adjust White Balance, ISO, Autofocus, Metering, and other common shooting settings.

The camera uses the famous rechargeable Li-ion battery. These are superb for holiday goers and adventurers that would like to move about without the tension of looking for a socket to charge their camera over and again. The batteries even last a good amount, about 3 hours and 20 minutes on a full charge. This is approximate to lasting 200 shots. This length is more than enough for many photographers.

Video Mode

The fact that this very compact camera can record videos is a winner, but that too in full 1080p HD format. With the press of a button, dedicated video one on the camera, for easy access; you can set the camera on to record. It’s that simple. For the creative side of yours, the camera offers many special effects that can be applied to the recordings in-camera. And the 18x magnificent zoom works promptly while recording too, so you can grasp all your action live and up close. A built-in HDMI mini connector enables you to view your recordings on HDTV.

Camera has a 16MP CMOS sensor that brilliantly manages high resolution photo clicking, bringing for you the expert image quality that you'd expect from Nikon cameras. Even while shooting in low-lighted conditions, your photos and movies created will appear so vibrant, they'll take you back to the instant you shot them. Nikon's backside illuminated CMOS sensor technology increases the flow of light on to the sensor's surface, therefore propagating satisfying image quality and even reduced noise.

This camera is useless. Don't waste your money on this camera. Image quality is bad and is a complete let down. Instead check out Samsung's WB250. Its an excellent camera with some cool wi-fi feature.
