The demand for new bridge camera is growing rapidly, for it provides top end quality within a price range that is affordable to many and probably keeping this in mind, Samsung has released NX1000. Although it fetches the same APSC sized sensor from NX20 and NX210 cameras, Samsung seems to follow the league of featuring Wi-Fi connectivity. Samsung is providing one press control for Smart Link Hot Key and Samsung NX1000 shares the top 12800 ISO sensitivity, Auto panorama, 3D panorama mode, Smart info panel, and i-Function 2.0 controls. At some points, you can say by the look the camera that it imitates and in turn competes with Nikon 1. The ergonomics are somewhat similar to NX210. Samsung NX1000 introduces 20-50mm lens that retracts within the barrel for zooming purposes to make the overall design compact. Within the body, the lens mounts embody metal. Design and Build Quality
Samsung NX1000 has textured finger grip at the front and the same at the rear. The pattern at the back has a faux-leather look and since it is plastic, it is not very soft. The body of the camera is made of plastic and the angular construction is edgy. The mode dial is also made of plastic that can be run easily by the thumb and shutter release is also easy to use. There is a dedicated video button at the back of the camera. When compared to NX210, the camera is one short of a button at the back. There is no button for exposure compensation but there are four way buttons. The roof has smart link button in place of control wheel wherein, with one press you can avail the Wi-Fi. To zoom during playback you have to press OK button in the middle and then turn to the rear wheel for scrolling. There is one custom button that can be used as delete button when you’re playing back some stuff. The iFunction button can be assigned any function of your choice. Samsung NX1000 has a micro HDMI connector as well. Overall, the design of the camera would not disappoint you as such.
Focus and Face Detection
The focusing modes are two namely, Face detection and multi. Focusing with 20-50mm kit lens is slower than expected. The inbuilt focus assist lamp of Samsung NX1000 helps to shoot in low light conditions.
Lens and Image Stabilization
Sadly, you do not get any image stabilization with Samsung NX1000. If you want any image stabilization then you would have to depend on the lenses you buy. Since the camera takes advantage of mirrorless / interchangeable lens, there are several lens mounts available.
Screen and Menus
Samsung NX1000 has 3 inches 921000 dot AMOLED screen. The menu system is clear. The segments are well defined with large icons and clean text. The navigation through menus is impressive. There is an additional info on the display to make it easier to play with settings.
Under CIPA rating, Samsung NX1000 gets 330 shots on a single charge. The camera derives its life from a 103mAH rated BP1030 battery. The battery is rechargeable type and an additional use of Wi-Fi drains the battery sooner than usual.
Samsung NX1000 records video at Full HD (aspect pixels 1920x1080) at a frame rate of 30fps. At the resolution of 72p/240p/VGA, videos can be shot at 1920 x 810 frame size with frame rate of 24fps. There is no wind noise filter at work here. ISO can be set manually up to ISO 3200. In this mode, PSAM modes and picture wizard color options can be opted. The feature Multimotion enables the user to record videos at slow-mo speeds of .5x/.25x at VGA/720p. For high-speed playback, Full HD videos can be shot at 5/10/20x. Also, other elements such as selective color, AF, MF assists, optical zoom are available. The sound recording gets done in stereo sound format.
The sensor for Samsung NX1000 is CMOS APSC sized 20.3MP. The ISO sensitivity ranges from 100-12800 ISO. The noise levels are very low at ISO 100 to 200, the noise begins from 400 then on 800 and simply increases up to 1600, yet the results are acceptable as far as colours and details are considered. At ISO 3200, noise can be noticed when 100% view is put on. At ISO 6400, since the noise reduction works, the detail is lost. At ISO 12800, the image quality is very poor.
