Sony Cyber-Shot DSC HX60V Point & Shoot Digital Camera Black - Expert Reviews
Sony Cybershot DSC-HX60V is loaded with a 20.4 megapixels EXMOR R CMOS type sensor having an optical zoom of 30x. In 35mm terms, the focal length covers 24mm at wide-angle and 720mm at telephoto end. By using the Clear Image Zoom, you can double the zoom by 60x. The newly worked out BIONZ X processor is claimed to work three times faster than HX50. Both, color reproduction and detailing technology have improved and the camera has gained area-specific noise reduction. OSS IS - optical steady shot image stabilization has been upgraded to involve 5-axis smart active mode for better video and pics' stabilization. The camera will also deliver 4K stills out via HDMi cable to an HD TV. You can see that NFC has been added to make the Wi-Fi connections easier to link the camera with any of your smart devices supporting the same.
The application used for making use of the wireless link is the PlayMemories camera app so that, you can add extra features to the camera by downloading them through Wi-Fi. The multi interface shoe has been provided to add flash, external mic or electronic viewfinder. The shooting mode of the camera includes; smart auto and superior auto wherein, the former configures the settings for the camera and the latter is best used when you have to track subjects in motion. You can select from a number of scene modes and can select from a number of manual controls. Other modes involve intelligent sweep panorama and artistic effects that include HDR painting, partial coloring and toy camera. The performance segment is where you can observe the quality of the images delivered by the cam. The pictures are quite well exposed with pleasant color reproduction.
The portraits offers good skin tone and are free of red-eye while using the flash. As far as panorama is concerned, the camera features an auto panorama mode, where you simply press the shutter and pan the camera from one side to the other. After this, it is the camera's responsibility to stitch the images together well enough. In its predecessor, HX50, high-resolution panorama was available, which is not present in Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V anymore. The Dynamic Range Optimisation feature captures one still and manages the settings to bring about more detail in areas that are full of shadows. The high dynamic range mode catches three photos at different exposures and joins them within the camera to produce pics with stretched dynamic range. The DRO can be set to automatic or between levels 5 to 1 depending on how impactful the user wants the effect to be.
Design and Build Quality
Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V comes as a compact digital camera that can be carried inside a pocket or even inside a small bag. There is a rubber grip at the front and a rubberized patch at the rear for the thumb to rest. For using Wi-Fi, you would have to install the PlayMemories application that comes free on your smart devices. Setting the link between devices as well as using the PlayMemories application are relatively easy. Images and videos can be transferred and captured. You can set a timer and control zoom to the application.
Focus and Face Detection
Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V comes with following focusing modes; face detection, autofocus tracking and autofocus. Both shutter response and focus are quite quick. When you are using full zoom, the focus gets slow. The time taken to power on is plausible from shot to shot. For 10 shots, you can shoot at 8 frames per second frame rate.
Lens and Image Stabilization
Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V offers a 30x optical zoom lens that spans the focal length range of 24mm – 720mm, in 35mm terms. The maximum aperture range is from f/3.5 to f/6.3. Coming to the performance of the lens, images are delivered with a good amount of detail when both the ends are observed namely, Telephoto and Wide-Angle. The detail is impressive at frame's centre, though you can spot some signs of chromatic aberration and purple fringing. The minimum focusing distance is of 5cm, which allows for macro shots that are detailed. Some areas in the image with lot of detail could look smudged at times. Distortion is controlled quite well. Some might notice a little pincushion and barrel distortions at times, even when catching straight lines. As far as image stabilization is concerned, the Optical SteadyShot feature has been enhanced to involve the 5-axis intelligent active mode that results in stabilized stills and videos.
Screen and Menus
Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V holds playback, delete, menu, movie record and function buttons at the rear. The function buttons shows up on screen as a set of functions. At the rear, there is a rotating dial for browsing through the menus and also for changing the shutter and aperture speeds. Above the screen, there is a button that activates pop flash. The menu system has been laid out quite well and is easy enough to navigate. The monitor is a 3 inches wide LCD with a resolution of 921k dots. The screen can be viewed under almost all lighting conditions. When you are in extremely bright conditions, you can increase the screen's brightness. The reception of the screen is full of color and brightness. The viewing experience of images is really great.
Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V runs on NP-BX1 rechargeable battery pack. The shot count you get here is of 380 shots as per CIPA/Sony testing standards. The charging adapter that gets shipped along is AC-UB10/UB10C/UB10D. However, the extended use of Wi-Fi or GPS shall cut down the number of shots.
Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V records videos in Full HD resolution wherein, the ultimate video quality is good enough along with the sound, which comes in stereo format. The optical zoom feature can be availed during recording. Also, the optical image stabilization feature keeps the videos steady. The frame size of videos is 1920 x 1080 pixels with a frame rate of 50fps.
Sony Cybershot DSC HX60V features a CMOS backside illuminated 20.4 megapixels sensor. The width and height of the pixels are 5184 and 3888 respectively. The aspect ratios used are 4:3 and 16:9. The ISO sensitivity range covers ISO80 and goes over to ISO6400. At the first two levels - ISO80 and 200, noise levels are low with good amount of detail. For low light conditions - ISO400 and ISO800 give good results, though noise increases while detail goes down. At ISO1600 and ISO3200, noise levels attain strength and it is recommended that avoiding ISO3200 is better though at times, you may get lucky with some acceptable shots to be put on the web after being resized. ISO6400 shows severe noise and therefore, must not be used at all.
