Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W360 Digital Camera Silver - Expert Reviews
All the cameras from the CyberShot W series from Sony are more or less alike, all are simply classy in design and look great in hand. The device is worth every money you spend, basically Sony CyberShot DSC W360 is a 14.1 megapixel compact which features 4x optical zoom lens, covering the entire rear of the device is a 2.7 inch LCD. The optical image stabilization feature of the camera takes crisp images regardless of your wobbly hands. Further, the Red-eye reduction and AF illuminator features of the camera takes picture in a lively format. You can capture motion images in error-free quality due to the Motion Detection technology. It also includes features like Self Portrait timer, a very good Sweep Panorama, Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) mode : which detects up to 8 different types of scene and selects the appropriate one. Also, Anti-blink function and up to 10 Scene modes that include: High sensitivity, twilight, soft snap etc. It also gives you a high ISO sensitivity (3200) allowing you a fast shutter speed for indoor shoots. In camera Retouching Tools give the camera a further edge. Lastly, the camera is capable of HD videos. This camera is a good package deal, a fair ups and a few downs but a good camera with a good budget.
Design and Build Quality
Sony Cyber Shot DSC W360 is one camera that won’t come off as being too beefy either or too slimy. It’s enough to slide right in your front jeans pocket, with a mere 126 grams including battery and card, that is, and dimensions 94mm x 56mm x 16.7 mm, the camera is a good weighted and pocket-able point and shoot camera. The grip isn’t the toughest out there is but it’s adequate. If you want to be very careful, pinch in the wrist strap. The camera lens is decently protected and the LCD screen is tough too. A plastic tripod socket is right under the lens on the bottom panel, which make panoramas a bit easier to capture. On the camera’s right side a tiny chrome door opens to HDMI and USB ports. The flash however resides next to the grip, a bit of a foolish placement but one has to be careful with finger placement then.
Focus and Face Detection
Sony Cybershot DSC-W360 comprises of a 9 point autofocus system and also has a face detection system. This face detection system is capable of perceiving as many as eight faces in a single screen. This time it can differentiate between children and adult. The face detection function moreover provides a Smile Shutter function that spontaneously prompts the shutter when your subject is smiling, also blink detection and anti-blink feature in the camera. The W3700 has three methods for determining exposures - multi-pattern, spot metering or center-weighted.
Lens and Image Stabilization
“Sony Lens” as simple as that is the lens of this camera referred as. With a 35 correspondent range of 34 mm to 238 mm, or a 37 mm to 259 mm in an aspect ratio 16:9 movie mode. The aperture range for this one is from f/3.6 to f/7.1 at wide angle, in 2 steps comprising of a neutral density filter. You have little to no precise control of the aperture of shutter speed that ranges from 2 seconds to 1/1,600 second. For stabilization of image the camera uses Sony’s optical SteadyShot. Optical Steadyshot images soothe by the use of an in-built gyro sensor that senses camera tremors and automatically shifts the lens to prevent blurs and distortions, all of this of course is to give you good quality picture with minimum damage. You can further and also tap into Sony’s Smart Zoom or Precision Digital Zoom modes.
Screen and Menus
The cameras rare panel is covered with a 2.7 inch TFT clear Photo LCD screen with a hundred percent coverage and a good resolution of 230k dots. Making it the only way to preview and frame your photos, handing the missing optical viewfinder. The screen is hard and very tough to scratch but does pick up fingerprint smudges easily. Menus on the other hand is entered through the very visible menu button and are easy to navigate through. In Record mode, you have the casual shooting options like image size, burst mode, setup etc. Setup has further four tabs for more Record options like grid lines, display resolution etc. Overall, one will have next to no problems navigating it.
Sony Cybershot DSC-W360 works on the mercy of K-type lithium-ion battery, very slim and are rated at 3.6 volts. The word’s that the camera lasts a good 230 shot or 115 minutes on a full charge. Internal memory of this one is 19MB.
Sony Cyber Shot DSC-W360 gives you the ability to record 720p videos and also gives an HDMI output, giving you to record and preview HD videos back in a snap. Since MP4 is a very format for high definition video that compresses the size of your videos and audio, the camera offers you exactly this. This format media files are easily compatible with PC or Mac and also with web, so sharing is made breezy.
This beautiful camera, Sony Cyber Shot DSC W360 is built about a 1 / 2.3 inch type with a 14.1 effectual megapixel Sony SuperHAD CCD image sensor, alongside a RGB color filter array. This powerful 14.1 megapixel sensor aids you and comforts you with its gorgeous capturing ability, such with bright contrast and lucidity, down to the optimum detail. With 14.1 megapixels, you can create beautiful, photo quality prints up to A3+ size and/or crop your own images and still be able to see some good high resolution shots.
For the good sides, this camera has many. Starting from the well construction of the camera to its long zoom lens, It also has perky features like sweep panorama mode etc. Good working system like Optical image stabilization etc. Records good HD 720p movie, and a good performance indoors with auto white balance.
A bit of setback comes from the not so very wide ‘wide angle’; it also has a slow autofocus and startup. It has shown to be a bit difficult in low light and apart from that the battery life has left some disappointed.
