Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W610 Point & Shoot Digital Camera Black - Expert Reviews
Sony Cybershot DSC W610 is an entry level digital camera which in few words is easy to use and fun to work with starting off with the impressive 14.1 megapixels CCD sensor that which graces the camera with the power to give you high quality pictures. The 4X optical zoom lens. It’s cheap and convenient, with the presence of a beautiful 2.7 inch LCD screen to preview and compose your photos on and the ability to capture 360 Sweep Panorama shots. To top it all, Sony Cybershot DSC W610 records videos for you in 640 x 480 p. And other edgy technology that include Face detection and Smile Shutter technology for precision portraits and still images. Furthermore, it caters smart features like Intelligent Scene Recognition (iSCN) that has 7 pre-defined scenes to detect your present scene to and optimize settings to deliver the best it can, also the Dynamic Range optimizer specific to manage shadows and highlights to perfect your stills. More is offered from modes like Soft Skin, Self portrait timer and Smile shutter technology. It comes in a beautiful colorful range from green, black, blur, silver to pink, making it an ideal camera, especially for amateurs, that caters for style, functionality, convenience and performance.
Design and Build Quality
The camera is small in its nature is very portable and a trouble-free travel mate, but this smallness provides less for a good grip. There is, however, a given plenty space for your thumb to operate through. It weighs only 113 grams with batteries and memory cards intact, or else just the body weighs no more than 97 grams. In case of Sony Cybershot DSC W610 design it’s very traditional yet still very casual and similar to other same priced point and shoot. The flash rests towards the front of the camera but is placed smartly so that even in folly your hand stays apart from it. Moving towards its top there only lies a power button and the shutter. The camera dimensions are as followed: 92.9 x 52.4 x 19.3mm, so most of the controls rest on the back of the camera together with the 2.7 inch screen. These include a switch for shifting between shooting modes, other three buttons to access menu system, review photos and /or delete selected. The circular button is used to activate flash, self timer, smile shutter or even change the info on LCD.
Focus and Face Detection
Sony Cybershot DSC W610 unlike most auto mode is more quirky, the iAuto – Intelligent AutoMode does all the thinking on your behalf by managing focus, correcting settings, detecting scenes and their respective lighting conditions, to ultimately eliminate blur and provide natural looking, vibrant photographs. For an amateur, this is as easy as it gets, you can leave the mode on for practically any form of photography you want and click away with little tension up your neck. Further the camera features Face detection technology qualified to detect a good eight faces and simultaneously regulates focus, white balance and exposure to give you best possible shots of your subjects. Within the face detection you get Smile shutter technology and Self portrait timer. In the smile shutter, the camera does all after you simple press smile shutter. It can differentiate between adult and child because of the set priority and also indicate the sensitivity degree of the subject’s smile, this feature works together with the intelligent scene mode to give you spotless images whereas self portrait grasps a face in the frame and triggers a 2 second timer to snap a perfect portrait.
Lens and Image Stabilization
You will find that the camera is graced by a Sony branded 4x optical zoom lens with a 4:3 aspect ratio for your shots and videos. Sony Cybershot DSC W610 offers a 35 mm equivalent range emerging from 26 mm wide angle to 105 mm tele. If changed to shooting in 16:9 ratio the shooting produces 28 – 114 mm equivalent focal range. As for the aperture it ranges from F2.8 to F5.9. The camera is capable of auto focusing to the least at 4 cm wide and/or 60 cm telephoto. You can safely zoom in to take pictures without finding faults in the imagery. Sadly there isn’t a specific optical image stabilizer but other software functions to counter blurs, one such on the line is DRO Standrd and Plus dynamic range optimizer, that helps to safe-keep shadows and highlights to produce more authentic photos. It is the most effective with backlit portraits or dramatic contrasts, etc.
Screen and Menus
The screen size Sony Cybershot DSC W610 offers is a good 2.7 inch which is pretty standard for digital cameras sharing the same price tag. Screen quality is good, nothing too fancy. It is enough for you to view photos and videos, compose them and even navigate your way through other options. Had this been a 3 inch, the camera would have done wonders but it’s not a bad bargain for the price. Menus are not too complicated and one can adjust to them readily and quickly.
The camera can power both ways, that is with batteries, lithium ion ones or via a charger. It is estimated to last 250 shots which is impressive for this little camera.
The spunky Sony Cybershot DSC W610 records in two formats for you: one VGA at 640 x 480 pixels and QVGA 320 x 240 pixels, pretty standard definition movies at 30 frames per second.
Embracing SonyCybershot DSC W610 is the 1/ 2.3 inch Super HAD CCD 14.1 megapixel image sensor with RGB color filter array. This is similar to what Sony uses in its Cybershot W620 while their other camera the W650 goes a bit higher and settles on 16 megapixels. Such high pixilation lets you capture impressive images with acute detailing. You can print these photos out and yet find them to be incredibly beautiful.
The camera offers a mode for delivering 360 degree Panorama shots, this with an effective self timer mode for brilliant portraits.
There is no HD movie option and the screen is a little off-beat in bright lights.
