Better than SONY DSC HX400, HX300, CANON SX50HS and other bridge cameras...!!!!!!!!!
by Kamal Bhatt on 2014-09-13
I bought this Camera around 1 month ago at a super low price of 15500. I am writing this review after clicking about 2000 photos and 4 hours of video. I have many other bridge cameras also about which I talk below-
I really like the FZ70 especially the super wide angle and extra zoom in the lens and now priced
around Rs. 16000. The super wide angle is rather unique in a super zoom and great for landscapes and indoor shots. The F2.8 at wide angle allows for pretty good low light images. It’s rare to see really wide angle in any lens but it does present a problem finding a lens hood that will work at extreme wide angle. The FZ70 is really a stripped down version of the more expensive FZ150/FZ200 with a much bigger zoom lens, different sensor, and missing many extra important features which an experienced image taker expects. These features are nice to have but really not necessary features for the beginner or someone like myself with other cameras
The image stabilization on the FZ70 is outstanding just like the FZ150/FZ200. I was able to get sharp hand held images at 60X zoom most of the time. It should be impossible to do that but with some extra bracing, the sharp images were close to all of the time. I think the Panasonic FZ150/FZ200 has the best image quality for the bridge cameras but there is not a huge difference. The FZ70 images are very good and sometimes breathtaking. I checked out an assortment of wide angle to full zoom images and was amazed just how good they were. An example….I took an image of a house 1/5 of a mile from the camera, hand held at full zoom. I could almost see the individual granules in the shingles and individual leaves in the trees behind the house. I can’t do that with my Canon 60D dSLR and $600 zoom lens. I recently took the FZ70 along with an Olympus OMDEM5 with a Panasonic 14-140, that combination cost 6X the FZ70 to the local zoo. I used the FZ70 for the wide angle images and the extreme zoom images. I captured in sharp detail, all the animals in their habitat as if I was right next to them. The OMD allowed capturing images through any cages or fencing, something that is nearly impossible to do with the FZ70. The EVF for the OMD is vastly superior which you would expect, which made image taking much easier with that camera. Is the camera easy to use?….extremely easy. 100 times easier than my OMD or 60D. The setup is easy, just turn the dial to ia and press the shutter ½ way to focus and then press all the way. When you grip the camera and use the EVF, your images will be vastly improved over your phone or LCD compact camera.
If you do not want to spend much over 18k, this camera is a great deal. If you have some extra money, I think the FZ200 is the way to go but it is missing the extra zoom and wide angle, but the FZ200 is more compact and takes outstanding images, video and is great in low light. If you like just automated settings, the FZ70 is a very good choice. Read the manual first…it’s online. Basic and Advanced. If you have a tablet, who doesn’t, it’s an easy to read PDF. If that puts you to sleep get the camera first and wait until you need to know how to do more complicated things.
- Sharp at 20mm at the wide end. The cost of this camera is lower than most dedicated wide angle lenses. If nothing else, you can keep a FZ70 in your bag as an always ready wide angle option.
- 5fps with autofocus. Perfect for capturing fast moving action since the camera focuses after every shot.
- Super range. 20-1200mm is just insane. 1200mm shots have come out well which wasn't the case with the Sony HX300V. I could not get sharp shots past 800mm on the Sony.
- Great video quality at 720p 60p.
- Nice and light
-Great rubberised hand grip
All round I am extremely pleased with camera: handles well and feels solid and chunky but not too heavy. The zoom is outstanding - optical to x60 excellent and the digital iZoom doubles this with no loss in image size and manageable loss in quality, there is more digital zoom on top of this but then noise really starts to become unacceptable. In amongst all the zooming options I shouldn't forget to mention the wide angle ability (20mm) which is significantly better on this model and excellent both for landscapes and indoors
Also pleased with clarity and simplicity but also the depth, of the menu settings and ease of access - normal via menu button, quick menu button and via scroll dial plus two customisable shortcuts. This has made using the manual settings straightforward. One other plus point is the start up speed - I would estimate at approx 1 second.
Picture quality has been very pleasing from macro to zoom - even on large PC monitor display

First one thing not of review but of Flipkart customer care. It sucks, either they don't have any knowledge of the job of the officials are too like that way. I wanted the delivery one day later and they told me "to call after the time of delivery!!!" One thing is clear for the next time I won't call customer care of Flipkart for any help, it's just waste of time any money there. For customer care rating I want to give 1/5.
Now coming to the camera, I compared three cameras of my budget which are Sony DHC400, Nikon Coolpix p530 and this one. After so many researches, comparison and reading reviews of some good sites and photography experts, I choose this one and I am very happy with its results.
The zooming quality, shooting mode options, battery life everything is fine in this one at this prize. If you are looking for good beginner level DSLR type point and shoot camera its a good one for starters . . .
Excellent buy to learn manual photography when DSLR is not in your budget.
by Madhu B on 2014-10-25
I brought this camera from some other site for 15K.
1. Cheapest camera with zoom greater than 42x.
2. Photo quality almost in par with sony HX400V.
3. Spending another 15 K you can buy 2x teleconverter ( optical zoom doubles to 100x plus with slight degradation in picture quality), macro lens kit ( the good insect photo you want), 0,45x wide angle lens, 0.35x fisheye lens, good tripod, UV, CPL filters and good camera bag. Purist may cry foul to using cheap quality lenses but taking good photographs using substandard lenses shows your capability.
4. All the accessories I brought was of 58 mm diameter so that I can use the same when I buy my canon DSLR.
5. Very good second / travel camera if you are planning to buy or have DSLR.
1. Once you learn manual photography and start appreciating noise, photo quality to a certain extent then you will regret buying this camera as you would always feel that DSLR with larger sensor and lesser zoom would have been a better bet.
2. If you already have a good point and shoot camera, I would suggest you to buy a DSLR. A DSLR with poor lens will be better than a 1/2.3 sensor camera.
3. No need to buy a camera just for zoom.
This review is for aspiring photographers only who want to learn / make photography a hobby.
Great Camera with Excellent Zoom
by Roland on 2014-08-31
Great Camera with Excellent Zoom. Priced reasonably compared to Sony which costs 25k and does not even offer full HD video recording.
This one has full HD, maximum zoom for a bridge SLR, Dolby audio recording. Everything to the max that you wish for.
by Vinayan on 2015-04-26
Great color quality, Fast and easy to operate. Better results in manual mode. Really super zoom and image stabilizer works really well. Don't expect much on zoom mic nothing special about it. Night shots are going to be a tragedy but still best in digital camera series.
Buying Your First Bridge Cam..?? Then GO FOR IT....!!
by Abhinav Gaur on 2015-02-02
Amature photographer here so I don't know a lot about cameras. To me this thing is amazing! What's more is the low price! Easy to use. Lots of options in the menu. Feels like quality material. Takes great photos!
Really wonderful cam at this price!
by Jitesh Raghuwanshi on 2014-10-02
This is very good deal for a beginner's need. I bought this for my mother and she is really getting use to it and learning lot of photography. With some really good auto modes, makes using this cam really wonderful, she is yet to try manual modes. The stabilizer is good but quite slow, but at this price, you wont complaint. Go for this if you really want a good photography experience at good value...
My first SLR looking camera
by Kiran Bhat on 2015-04-04
To buy this I unfortunately strayed away from Flipkart for the first time as I got a bargain at another site and the camera cost me less than Rs.16000, yes it is brand new. On first look it looks superb and not what a point&shoot is expected to look like. The zoom is fantastic and that is really what I missed in my other point&shoot camera so missed out on a lot of nice photos, not anymore. I have to go through the manual and figure out the camera and it's various features. This is just an initial note on it.
I read a few reviews stating the case that comes along with it is too small. I also initially found it small but later figured out how to put the camera in it with no problems. The lens has to face up when you insert it in the case. Granted it is a snug fit but fits well.
Will post my experience with the camera as soon as I start using it more and get a proper grasp on it. Really happy I purchased this camera.
Just received it....looks fabulous
by Aditya Bansal on 2015-03-19
- Flipkart delivered in less than 24 hrs
- Got 4 GB card and Bag free
- Holding the cam looks awesome. The plastic quality, overall build, grip, button positions etc is very good
- Camera has built in flash, electronic view finder and an LCD screen with very good resolution (don't go by dpi comparison)
- Using it is very easy, I am yet to go through manuals etc, but I was able to quickly take some very nice shots.
- 60x zoom looks exciting, but I have yet to learn how to use it meaningfully

Best camera in class of 50X.
by VAIBHAV N on 2014-03-31
Excellent product. In comparison with the competitive brands with 50x zoom, this camera is better. Nice picture quality. Saw review of Madhu Reddy & others regarding the pouch of camera. According to them the pouch is small & camera is not fitting well in it. But it is not true at all. I got the perfectly fitting pouch of panasonic company. The pouch is branded panasonic pouch, very attractive & perfectly fitting for camera.
A very decent Bridge camera but use the Advanced user manual
by Oaks on 2015-01-16
This is a very useful and handy camera if you have read the Advanced user manual which is on the Panasonic website and in pdf format.
First let us get few things out of the way:
-This camera is NOT for BIRDS IN FLIGHT- the 1200mm equivalent zoom gives you a reach but single flap of wing and the bird flies through the sensor area.
-It excels for longer distance photographs if you you use the RAW format and can finetune the picture in Aperture(MacOS) or Lightroom/Photofun supplied in CD.
For MacOS you will have to use DNG converter or Lightroom to get the RAW files converted.
It's viewfinder is a bit too bright and there is lag but that is expected.
The exposure modes allow you to take in Shutter priority/Aperture/Manual priority.
The images come out good but at the end of the Zoom range it is very grainy in low light.
The case, in my case, just about fits it right but nothing else gets in.
Battery usage- I get up to 250 shots with electronic viewfinder usage.
The weight is just about right and vibration reduction works well.
Even though this is a bridge camera to nudge users from point and shoot to DSLR, it is actually most useful for DSLR users who want a lightweight second camera to carry round on trips/car.
Bridge Camera at its best
by Karthik on 2014-04-16
I have been following this camera for past few months and reading all possible reviews, finally before couple of months, I have made a purchase in one of the leading online shopping site but came with worst packaging. I have to return and get the money back as there was damage also.
As I didn’t want to buy again on that site, was waiting for the best deal. One fine day Amazon came up with jaw dropping deal of Rs.17500 and I immediately grabbed it. To be honest this camera is full VFM even at the standard market price of around 21k. Its main competitor are Fujifilm’s HS50EXR (very costly) and SL 1000 (bit costlier, less features/zoom), Sony CyberShot DSC-HX300 (Costlier), Nikon P520 (Less features) and Canon Powershot SX50 HS (old model). All these are bridge cameras are minimum 3k-5k costlier and have less features compared with FZ70. Reviews for all these cameras are available widely in the net and you can choose your bet based on reading few reviews.
My first attraction to this camera is its super long zooooom ? Pictures are very clear even at full 60x zoom. With 60X optical Zoom(20mm-1200mm), it is the widest and longest Zoom available now. 20mm ultra wide is only available in this model and not on other models.
It has Full HD video recording with Wind Shield Zoom Microphone to minimize the wind noise by approximately 70% as per Panasonic.
There are lot of manual mode and intelligent Auto for beginners. I liked this iAuto function as most of them will not be professional photographers.
The camera is comfortable to grip, the buttons on the camera is adequately spaced and easy to use. If you require more technical details, you can go through few reviews.
The only negative I could say is the camera LCD display cannot be tilted and it’s fixed. I have not widely used it yet, so cannot determine any other issues now.
The pouch supplier with this camera is very small and my suggestion is not to use it as it seems not safe. In my previous purchase, I got a different pouch which also was small. So I assume the pouch is supplied based on availability with the seller and there is no standard pouch used. It has 4GB card supplied with the camera. You can purchase 16GB class 10 card and a lowerpro/Caselogicpouch separately.
Good Product but wrong packaging!
by rajesh on 2014-04-10
I agree with MadhuReddy, the pouch supplied with the camera is too small & doesnt fit.A bigger & better quality carry bag should have been provided.
The camera is pure VFM @ 17,500.Pic quality & zoom is excellent with good stabilization.
When i asked for replacement of bag,i was told to send the whole package back to customer service!!...Illogical!!
Why should we send the whole product back amazon???...I just want the replacement for carry bag!!
-2 stars for wrong packaging & returns policy.
by Amit Kumar on 2014-10-14
Great camera in this range. The image quality and resolution is quite good. The zoom, ranging from 20mm wide angle to 1200mm telephoto range is quite good. The OIS is very good. Inbuilt Panorama/HDR is great feature, which makes this bridge camera out of the world. The electronic viewfinder could have been a bit better however for this range it's quite good. Continuous shoot is not quite up to the mark however i can live with the existing one. Overall 5 star
Massive 60x optical zoom.
Excellent Power O.I.S. stabilisation.
20mm ultra-wide angle.
400 shot battery life.
3 Programmable Fn buttons.
Fixed LCD screen can't be flipped out.
No built-in GPS or Wifi.
Poor 3-frame burst shooting.
Stabilisation artifacts on movies at max zoom.
Good camera , value for money
by Abhishek Mahajan on 2014-10-27
This camera clicks very good pics at far distance compare to other super zoom camera. Good for wild life photography. It has ample of other options to confuse beginners. But additional options are extra options not given in compeditors like raw image, bulb mode like option-60sec shutter speed, wide angle of 20mm, option to add extra lens to increase to +100x, longer battery life, lot of scene option to choose from, some internal storage, flash distance longer than others, etc.
It is actually 50x compared to others, because of wide angle of 20x it is mentioned as 60x.
Drawback: doesn't allow to have all the user configured exposure options in one mode. That means exposure is decided by camera always by restricting one or more option from user. This is advantage to beginners.
Good product, Bad shopping experience
by Shreenivaas on 2014-10-28
I was in a market to look for decent bridge camera. Initially, I was attracted towards Nikon Coolpix L830, but later hiked budget to have an all-round package & decided to purchase Nikon Coolpix P530.
As I was on verge of finalizing the purchase, I got a whim to see the product in showroom. A talk with salesman revealed not only all features of camera, but also issues of warranty with online shopping. A call to Nikon customer care confirmed the fact that company won't honour the warranty of online purchase. I was not willing to take risk, though Amazon had assured me that if I face any problem with the camera within an year of purchase & if company refuses warranty, I should get the same in writing from service centre & Amazon will refund the money.
Then the search restarted. Amazon India was promoting Canon Powershot SX520 HS. A quick comparison showed it fulfilled most if not all criteria as compared to Nikon Coolpix P530. A talk with competent authority in Canon confirmed that company will honour the warranty. As Deepawali promotion, I got camera at discounted rate.
On arrival, I clicked some great pictures & was entirely happy with performance of camera, particularly in low & candescent light. I also clicked very good photos of my 6 month old son & two dogs. Everyone knows how difficult it is to click dogs & kids. Camera focuses fast & is very easy to use for novice.
I wanted to know how camera shoots fireworks & reached terrace of apartment. A glance all around & my hands were itching to shoot a nice panoramic view of the brightly illuminated sky. But alas, I searched high & low & nowhere was option for panorama. I was disappointed & decided to return camera.
Then, I decided to purchase Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70 but missed lightening deal by whisker. But going through positive online reviews, i just decided to get it at escalated price.
This camera is amazing! I am not a professional photographer - just someone who loves to take pictures. The camera is easy to use, and the zoom is phenomenal. It has much quicker boot up, it focuses faster, it is truly spectacular in good light conditions & doesn't disappoint in low light condition. As with all digital cameras, it has many functions which I will probably never use, but access to this camera's adjustments and settings is much easier and more intuitive.
This is known as a Bridge model camera because it bridges the gap between a Point & Shoot and the dSLR. This is everything that a dSLR is, except it has a smaller sensor. I think this camera is aimed mainly for the beginner or anyone considering buying a dSLR but not prepared to spend the hundreds or thousands for extra lenses beyond the kit lenses included with most dSLR. It particularly appealed to me for the wide angle, extra zoom, electronic viewfinder & ability to shoot panoramas easily.
Now word about Amazon. Amazon has been a frontrunner in online shopping in India. But, with increasing turnover, the quality is declining. The courier service has become bit slow as compared to flipkart & prices have risen as compared to snapdeal. Particularly irksome is the lousy tracking provided by Amazon, which gets updated at the time of initiation of shipment, & stucks there even if product is delivered & then returned back to the seller. However. Customer support & easy return policy are top notch, which attracts me towards Amazon again & again.
Now some words about seller "My Rainbow". The seller has provided a camera pouch, punctured with hole, which appears to be handiwork of rats. A call to customer care, and I was shocked to learn that amazon won't replace the camera pouch alone. Either i have to keep useless bag or have to return whole package including camera to get refund (& mind u not a word about the replacement). I was not willing for both & finally settled for minuscule 'goodwill' refund of Rs. 500.
Another issue that i faced from seller is that bill provided with camera carries entirely different serial number than the one printed on box and camera. As always happens in online purchases, u never get a filled up warranty card & the bill is must to claim a warranty if something goes wrong. Imagine then what will happen if u carry such erroneous bill to claim your warranty.
I called Amazon customer support & have been provided an improvised bill today via email. Amazon, being the Amazon should ensure that such mistakes hamper the whole shopping experience & should be avoided to retain loyal customers.
Take this at your own risk
by Milton on 2015-03-05
It's very unhappy to tell you that this is not a nice product; from my experience.
I found this product defective within a month. I have used this crap just 3 times and it worked neatly only for 2 times. But when I used 3rd time, BLOODY thing doesn't worked. Don't know why. I thought battery was drained. So I recharged the battery and tried again. Unfortunately.......it doesn't worked. I went to service centre near me, since the return policy was just crossed a few days ago. It was on Nov 8, 2014. Till date the service centre has not returned the piece. They are saying the board of this camera is complaint and it is not present in the country (WT#$%). I have even contacted the Panasonic Customer Care, it is also another worst helpline.
So I recommend you guys to take this at your own risk.
by Nilesh on 2014-11-16
I was impressed with the so called MEGA zoom, you can see details that your naked eye cannot. But when I saw pics in my PC, they disappointed me. Noise level is too high when i compared with my sony smartphone camera (8MP). colors are washed out and lack of sharpness. If you are a zoom fan, go for it, otherwise thumbs down.
THe lens must be of poor quality. Although the resolution is 16MP
by B Garadi on 2015-11-17
THe lens must be of poor quality. Although the resolution is 16MP, the picture quality is not as good as the ones you get with the Canons or the Nikons! The zoom is quite power full and I ended up using this contraption as a very powerful field glasses (binoculars). The confounded unit takes far too long to capture the frame and if you are looking at taking multiple shots before the subject changes, you would be disappointed because the unit is still busy processing and storing! The lens cover is pathetic and of poor quality. The display is fixed and I can open and twist it or angle it while taking pictures from different positions.
