The Best Camera with Advanced Technology
by Venkat on 2014-06-05
Finally here is my Review (My Experience).....
Generally, like all others i have searched for the DSLR's when i decided to got one..which included the internet rating, personal experience,Photographer's,Friends etc...to select the best cam for my Budget(30-35k). Then i personally took the snap's of NIKON D3200,D5100,D5200,D3100,Canon EOS 550D,600D and Sony DSLT A57,A58. among these cam's, the crality varied from one to another but the technology sony a58 is offering is very advanced for photography in multiple ways than rest of the cam's.
1.ELECTRONIC VIEW FINDER
2.CONTINUOUS 8 SNAPS IN A SECOND(you won't miss a fast moving action)
3.WIDE DYNAMIC RANGE
4.15 POINT FOCAL FRAME SELECTION
5.IMAGE SIZE-5456 x 3632 (20 M)
6.STILL IMAGES (no motion blur)
7.SUPPORTED ASPECT RATIO-16:9(others cam's 03:02)
1.IMAGE DISPLAY RESOLUTION-460, 800 dots
Those who are into Photography(Wild Life) can go for it without compromising anything. I have brought this Camera about a weak ago and discovering dynamic effects everyday while shooting and till now i had never regretted about my decision as i spent extra 5k for my estimated budget to get this and now i feeling proud that my money worth the product. If you want to purchase the same cam with these spec's you may have to spend some 1L in other model's. Since sony was dominated in DSLR's it released this new product(DSLT) with advanced tech spec's which no other camera posses at this price range. Its good to share my experience with you all.
Thank you everyone. &
Thank you Sony.

This is indeed the best DSLR for beginners! It has an electronic viewfinder which will seem frustrating to professionals but it is great for beginners! You will get all the settings on your viewfinder itself! A pretty easy to function menu on this! I have been using this for 4 months now and I am very pleased with the performance! Don't hesitate, just buy!!!!!!!!!!!
An awesome entry level cam..
by koushik sarma on 2014-08-27
Till the time i went to store for buying the camera, i was having Nikon D3200 and Cannon 1200D in my mind. But when i tried snaps with all the three cams (nikon, cannon and sony), i got very much satisfied and convinced with the performance of Sony. The best features in this cam are.. firstly it is not a DSLR but it is DSLT.
The advantage of DSLT technology is that, no matter whether you take snaps through view-finder or not, the number of the snaps per second (8fps for sony alpha 58y) will be the same. where as the DSLRs can give their best only through the view-finder.
The other interesting feature is.. you need not search for the view-finder button on the cam. The cam comes with a proximity sensor which helps you to automatically switch between the view-finder mode and LCS mode.
Coming to video recording.. this camera has a dynamic auto focus option. It keeps on focusing at objects that are moving infront of the lenses. Where as nikon D3200 and Cannon 1200D come to manual focus mode when recording a video.
The most wonderful part of this cam is that, it has a in-build AF motor which can convert a normal lenses(no AF) to AF lenses. So you can buy a normal lenses without AF but still can use it as AF lenses and save lot of money. You can fix lenses of many top ranking lenses makers like Carl Zeiss. For the people who are crazy about wildlife photography and do not wish to lose even a single moment, go for this!!
The auto crop option and auto edit options available can help you to auto edit pics on-the-go.
The image stabilization is very great. The sports mode is incredible and takes the best snaps. You can allow the camera to shoot multiple pics and it'll choose the best pic for you and delete the others automatically.
Sometimes the flash fills lot of light but still you can reduce user shutter speed to regulate it.
Finally my verdict is.. if you are an entry-level photographer and planning to buy a camera for both home and photography, go ahead, look no further. You'll never regret your choice.

If you want a first dslr for you... You can't go wrong with this... It's far better than the canon and nikon counterparts in this range.. This camera is feature rich and gives a great learning edge to a beginner..
The unique thing about this is the inclusion of all time live view so you don't need to wait like you have to while clicking pictures in live view in nikon and canon.
Also it has a great viewfinder.. An electronic view finder... Which is the best thing that is there. Electronic viewfinder behaves according to the changes made in the camera settings and you can see in live how the photos will turn out through it before even clicking it! and the best thing about this it capture full hd video with excellent quality.
I highly recomended this camera for video. In the case of video nikon and canon far away than this camera!
I've used nikon and canon's kit lenses and they are absolutely crap.. These lenses that come with the camera are by far the best kit lenses I've used with a camera especially the 55-200mm lens ...
You can also use old minolta lenses apart from Sony lenses which give it a great edge as you can get old minolta lenses from eBay which are cheap and have great sharpness, detail, color and the bokeh you need.
Best camera in 35k-37k range.. Period.

Nice camera....hv bn using it for last 2 years without any issues...only drawback i found is scarcity of third party lenses.....the zoom lens provided with the camera is just grt
by Himanshu Raj on 2016-08-16
I am not a professional.
This is very nice camera. I am using this camera last 2 month and I found some good experience like video shoot is awesome when you shoot video then focus is too much good compare to other camera and Image is also superb. And this is not a DSLR camera as per sony this is DSLT.
As per my experience it is perfect for me.

Good Product... Fast Delivery
by Sunit Chatterjee on 2015-08-03
When I had ordered this product, I was very apprehensive, as I am a bit reluctant buying electronics product online (especially when they cost huge).
So with fingers crossed I ordered this camera for around 37K (including one day shipping).
Delivery was very fast... and as promised was delivered to me next day.
Included a bag and SD card (which was not mentioned in product description).
In fact when I had inquired from Flipkart customer care, they told this product does not comes with camera bad and SD card.
So i was surprised to get them.
But it will be useful if the product description is updated, so that somebody does not buys them separately.
The packaging was very good...
The camera was delivered safely and in time
and the camera is AWESOME...
I use it for mostly portrait photography of my little daughter... and the pics came out amazing..
One suggestion - The camera comes with 2 lenses, but the camera bag that comes with the box can barely hold the camera and the 18-55mm lens.
If you want to carry the other lens or both lens, then you need a bigger bag.
Would help if the seller ships the bigger camera bag instead of this smaller bag (even if it comes at a little extra cost)
by Kiran Copparapu on 2016-05-22
I am happy that Flipkart delivered this to me - First thing in the morning!
I am happy that the product is non-defective & it works!
I am happy that all the mentioned components are actually present!
BUT These are Expected!
What I am not very happy about :
1) Noise in low light conditions
2) Camera isn't very fast to capture (Processing time)
3) Kinda heavy
4) 2x Zoom + Focal length of 200Mm - Performance is disappointing
5) Not a very user friendly body!
Yet to figure out!

Best DSLR for first time DSLR users
by Aloke on 2016-03-26
This is one of the best DSLR available within 30K Price range for Beginners, i.e. those who are upgrading from Point and Shoot Cameras to DSLR.
I purchased this from a shop with 18-55 lens and the total cost was around 30K. I had almost finalized on Nikon D3300 but the knowledgeable salesman in the shop told me some of the unique features of this camera which are not available in the Low end Nikon/Canon Cameras and I finally Changed my mind and bought this. After using this for about three months now, I must say that it was a good decision. I won't go into detailed specification reviews, but let me summarize it in terms of some of the pros and cons of this camera compared to the Nikon/canon available within 30K Price range:
1. Very Important and the main Reason for me behind going for A58 : continuous Phase detection Auto focus during video recording with almost no noise in lens(I have the SAL18-55 lens). In the shop I have seen demo of video recording with Canon and Nikon and those lenses have much higher noise and auto focus in video is not at all good. I have taken videos using A58 and the videos come out as crystal clear. Make sure that you use ISO800 or lower while video recording. Video quality of sony A58 is much better than Nikon/Canon. If you are planning to use your DSLR as a secondary camcorder, A58 is the best option within 30K range.
2. Always Live view. This is one of the main reasons I selected this instead of Nikon/Canon. This is due to the DSLT technology used by Sony. In Canon/Nikon if you want to see the display in LCD you need to switch to live view and in Live view there is lot of delay between two photo clicks. In Sony A58 it's always Live view. This is the key feature which enables me to hand over my DSLR to any of my relatives/friends who has never used a DSLR earlier but still can take a photo.
2. It has HDR and Panorama both options. In Nikon D3300 you would get panorama but no HDR. In D5200 you get HDR but no panorama. In this age of mobile photography we have got so used to panorama and HDR photos that without the panorama option I feel that some important feature is missing.
3. Auto Exposure bracketing: D3300 doesn't have it. Only higher end Nikons have it. This feature allows the camera to take 3 consecutive photos with 'X EV, 0 and +X EV exposure so that you can select the best exposure. X can be 0.3EV, 0.7EV, 1.0EV, 2.0EV and 3.0EV bracket steps.
4. In built (i.e. in camera) Image stabilization. This is an useful feature if you are planning to purchase third party lens like Tamron. Tamron lenses with Image stabilization and without image stabilizations have a huge price differences so I feel it's a very useful feature.
5. Battery life with LCD on: Nikon/Canon gives almost half battery life with LCD (Live view on) but Sony gives same battery life irrespective of Live view/View finder usage. Battery life is very good.
6. Extremely good auto mode. I have been using Sony point and shoot cameras for last 10+ years and I can see all those intelligent auto, Superior Auto etc modes even in this DSLR. Auto mode works extremely well except low light (in low light auto mode tends to use 1600 + ISO and images become noisy) . Expert photographers won't use Auto mode often, but as I said, if you are a first time DSLR user moving from Point and Shoot to DSLR, the Auto mode would be very useful. Good part is this being a DSLR, you can see what Shutter speed, ISO and Aperture etc in LCD even in Auto mode so you can move back to manual mode if you feel those settings are not right.
7. Tilt able LCD: I didn't realize the usefulness of tilt able LCD until I went for shooting photos in one of my relative's marriage. If you are taking photos in a crowded place, holding the camera at a height above your head and looking at the tilted LCD really helps. Similarly, if you are taking photos of some low height object, tilt able LCD is very useful. After using This feature is not there in D3300. However, side rotatable LCD would have been even more useful to take selfies!
8. 15 Auto focus points with 3 cross type auto focus points is good in this price range. Auto focus is really fast and sharp. Till now I rarely had to use manual focus.
9. In Electronic viewfinder, you can see effects of any setting changes before taking photo.
10. Last but not the least, Images are crisp. Auto focus works really well, and even in bright sun there is no over saturation of photos which I used to face with Sony point ad shoot cameras.
Now Let me come to some of the cons of this camera:
1. Non availability of lenses from Camera rental portals: If you are planning to rent some high end lenses from some lens rental portals , you would be disappointed that they don't stock even a single A mount lenses. Even in DSLR shops you won't get to see too many varieties of lenses of Sony A mount. Canon and Nikon would beat Sony in every way in this aspect.
2. Not too many upgradeable options- so investment in lenses would go waste. From beginner DSLR in future if you want to move on to a pro photographer and you want to upgrade your camera , you won't get many options in Sony so all your investments in A mount lenses may go waste.
3. Due to the DSLT technology some part of the light gets diverted to the Auto Focus Sensors so Low light noise may be a bit higher compared to Nikon. I have seen that it works perfectly till ISO800 but above ISO800 some noise creeps in at low light without flash.
4. No wifi and no IR remote support. Only wired remote is supported.
5. LCD screen is not of very high resolution. I think D3300 has higher resolution. However, A58 screen is perfectly usable, no issues.
Summary: Overall it's a very good camera for first time DSLR users. However, if you want to upgrade to an expensive DSLR soon and planning to invest heavily on lenses, better to go for Canon/Nikon.
Head and shoulder above it's competitors. Best camera in this range.
by Nafeesa Fatima on 2014-12-10
Best cam for Beginners. I did lot of research before buying Sony A58y. I don't buy products without trying them out. I checked out Nikon D3300, Canon 600D, Canon 1200D & Sony A58 at nearest croma store. Nikon & canon camera options could be little confusing (especially nikon). Sony was damn user friendly, good grip, intelligent shortcut buttons & colors in images were head n shoulder above it's competitors. Weighs lighter than others. For same quality and performance you'd have to spend more in other brands. Though i am a Canon fan but sony was better in almost every way.
by Amazon Customer on 2016-10-31
I am new to the DSLR segment. Initially, my options were Canon 1300D/700D/Nikon D3300/D5300 and Sony Alpha 58Y. I read various reviews and comparisons. Alpha 58 always stood 1st in all the comparisons I read and gone through. This is an Ultimate Camera for Beginners and Next level experienced enthusiastics. Most of the people are much familiar with Canon and Nikon when it comes to Camera, the only reason is they are in the market from long time. But, believe me Sony is no less than any of these two Brands. The seller Techi-Home is a very reliable. I bought the bundle (included Sony Alpha carry Bag, 8GB Sony Memory Card andSony Alpha SLT 58Y (Y = Camera Body, 18 - 55mm and 55 - 200mm lenses kit). Wild life, Everyday, Landscape, Low Light, Portrait, Moving objects and Many more things can be handled perfectly with this Camera. The only Con I found is the resolution of the LCD display which is a bit less resolution compared with its competitors. If you have good stable hands then there is no need of a tripod, but having one is always preferable with DSLR's mostly while you are shooting wild life. Using tripod will give you excellent and unmatched photo quality.
So, my overall experience with this Camera is "Very Happy". The ease of use is also a plus point I shall mention.
If you are in a dilemma between Sony Alpha SLT 58Y and other camera which are in below INR 40,000/ range, you can go for this blindly.
by Prakash Lall on 2015-01-15
Camera is worth of its every penny. Being a technology of future, DSLT proves to be a real milestone from Sony. In low lights camera performance is great. If you know the settings of ISO, shutter and aperture you can take great pictures from low scenerio too. Camera achieves a quality where people say me its photoshoped, but its not. Good FullHD video recording with great sound is a great plus to the camera. From my eye its a must buy in this price.

Sony Alpha A58Y with dual kit lens is a perfect buy(a mixed bag for the money)
A58 looks to have faster continuous shooting, better-coverage viewfinder, boasts OLED technology for improved brightness and contrast.
The camera uses a 15-point AF system, which includes three cross-type sensors. It is capable of shooting at 8fps in telezoom continuous advance priority AE mode, or at 5fps at the camera's highest resolution, giving it one of the fastest burst rates currently in the entry-level market.
One thing i did not like is the screen. It could have been better with higher resolution and a 180 degree rotation.
If you're already a Canon or Nikon user, it's unlikely to tempt you away from the longer established brands, but for those without any previous loyalties or kit, this is a very tempting proposition.

Its superb... Far more better than Canon or Nikon with advanced features & user friendly.
This is my 1st DSLR but just have a look at the images which I clicked.
Honestly speaking compare the clarity & detailing of the same images clicked by different cameras, you will surely know why Sony is the best.
Although I purchased it from Vijay Sales Kalyan at a astonishing price than Amazon or any other online dealer.
TOTAL BRILLIANCE! Super satisfied with amazon and the product :)
by Shivani Naik on 2014-07-19
So, after having researched rigorously for about 15 days, i came down to the conclusion that sony a58 is an amazing camera, i bought it since it was astonishingly pocket friendly and cause amazon presented me with a super awesome deal and because it is so technologically better in many ways than other cameras in this price range.
I definitely got the proof after using it, and trust me, it is a beautiful device. The clarity of images is superb, when you click images in the "Pop Color" mode you hardly feel the need to edit the photo (contrast, saturation, brightness, highlights etc) The autofocus is extremely apt and intelligent.
The most important feature that makes Sony A58 special and outstanding is it's steady-shot feature which is INBUILT in the Camera's body and thus, with a fairly good shutter speed even if you have a tendency to shiver a little, the photos come out to be super crisp and it reduces blurr to a great extent.
This camera means a hell lot to me ( an amateur in the field of photography), Like many people i know, i didn't have to go to any mini photography course to learn to use the camera because it is so user friendly!!!
I am extremely happy with this god sent/made device :)
Now, talking about Amazon's and the seller's service...i would rate it 5/5! everything was perfectly packed , there were enough precautions in the huge box they sent me to keep the product safe since it contain delicate items such as the lenses.
The seller's service is really reliable, incase of this product, since i got everything that they mentioned in their product summary ( free items) and they were in prime condition not reused or anything. Excellent and prompt delivery. Amazon said 6 working days, it came in 6 working days only and they gave us a call in the morning saying that they'll come sometime in the afternoon and they stuck to their words! (just so you know, I live in Pune)
Lastly, i urge everybody to use their brains and to be a maverick AND NOT have the HERD mentality so many have. Many people will scoff at you for buying a Sony DSLR since they themselves have just followed somebody and bought a canon/nikon dslr and for them nothing exists beyond that(i'm only talking about an entry level camera for beginners such as me), but with an Exmor APS HD CMOS Image Sensor and other brilliant features at such a low cost you'll know why this is so damn awesome and worth a try. I too was pro-canon and extremely skeptical before buying this camera since sony seems pretty new in this line....but if you've owned a sony cybershot or a sony smart phone, you'll know just how promising and reliable their cameras and features have been and you won't really need to think again to go for this one. Blindly trust sony, cause they provide real good quality. So, use your brain and do not get influenced by others and be original, you shall definitely not fall flat on your face, atleast not with this product! It was a great risk i took (in so many ways) but it was definitely worth it. Go for it! :)

I have been into bird and nature photography for about three years. After experiencing Sony HX 100V and Canon 500D, I love this camera. I shoot only in JPEG and I am very happy with results both with stationary as well as fast moving objects. Excellent picture quality by my standards at a very affordable price. shutter speed of 5 fps per second (Don't trust the 8 frames spec as it is only for 5 MP shots in teleburst mode). Video is good.
Camera is easy to handle, I have gone for this as RAW shooting has never been my priority. I have dropped the idea of touch screen, It really does not matter to me. I also like EVF as I see how the image looks when I adjust ISO/Shutter/Aperture. This was not possible with the Canon view finder. I could only sense the quality post shooting and losing the image. I am using Tamron Telemacro 70-300 mm lens without IS. On Canon I had to trust my grip stability. Same Tamron lens with Sony Alpha mount does a great job as IS is obtained by Sensor shift. This is one of the greatest advantages of Sony Alpha as carrying multiple lenses could be done at a much lower cost
I am not sure why Sony have bundled an 8 MBPS class 6 SD card, which is too slow for any camera of this capability. Instead Sony could have sold it without free SD card, reduce the price and exposed the customer to various memory options. I have gone in for 32 MB class 10 SD cards on my previous cameras.
On the flip side I find the Aperture and shutter priority modes locks the camera into too much processing time. It is a lot of lost time for anyone more capable than fully auto modes while in the field trying capture photo opportunities as they arrive unannounced, I am still trying these options out. May be it is a matter of settings. I am not sure at this point in time. This camera has been with me for 7 days now. Hope by the end of one month I would give more points to Sony alpha 58.
Latest addition on 29th August 2014: I tested the camera yesterday, and find that Image processing in Aperture and shutter priority mode is quite fast. I am upgrading my rating to 5. I don't think I will use the raw mode option, as the JPEG quality is very good. Capturing in JPEG saves me effort and time. I am using Tamron 70-300 telemacro lens. I have ordered Kenko 1.4X Teleconverter. I will update my experience after using Teleconverter.
