A pretty good budget laptop and asus gets most things right.
by Darsh Solanki on 2016-02-03
Short Version:This is a pretty good laptop u can get in the price range with preinstalled windows(im not into pirating windows neither do i have a spare copy lying around)
and the only real competitors are the hp stream 13/11(currently with an inflated price and im going to compare the 13 inch model in this review) ,asus x205ta acer
s1002,asus x553 and dell inspiron 3452.
I have used almost all of the above laptops.I dont normally write a review but when i do i make sure its pretty much all you will need.
Honorable mentions for non-windows laptops:HP Notebook 15-ac118tu(The best non-windows laptop for the price),Lenovo G50-30,Dell Inspiron 3551
THE SHORT VERSION(For more details continue reading.)
Pros of e402ma:
+Display(Adjust it to ur liking by calibrating it.)
+U can insert a an ssd or hdd.
+Stays really cool(The icecool technology thingy actually works)
+Sound quality is nice and it does get quite loud.Even the sound equalization software is amazing.
+Trackpad is huge and accurate.
+Build Quality is quite nice.
+Keyboard is pretty nice.
+Good connectivity optoions.Has usb 3.0 and ethernet. This even has a VGA port.Wifi range is quite good.
+And well its dirt-cheap.
Cons of e402ma:
-Non expamdable ram
-SD Card sticks out.
-Performance(If you were expecting more from a dual core silvermont based pentium then i'm sorry to to give u the ugly truth.)
-No indicator light for capslock and mute keys.
-Really bad gpu.(Only can play pre 2005 games smoothly)
-Battery life(Battery life is about 6 hrs which is okayish compared to 11 hrs of the x205ta.)
Point to note:
*Emmc has 14gb free out of the box.
*Emmc read speed are 150mb/s seq and write speeds are 75mb/sec seq.
*Novabench scores is 309.

THE LONG VERSION
So i will compare all of these laptops:
Build Qualty: Hp Stream(This baby is built like a rock)>Asus e402ma>Dell Inspiron 3452>acer s1002(A pretty good implementation of a budget 2-in-1)>Asus x205ta>
Asus x553(Very okayish and not really sturdy0
Performance:Asus x553(Quad Core Pentium+Upgradable Ram)>Dell Inspiron(Much better gpu compared to rest.The gpu is almost twice as fast)>Acer s1002==Asusx205ta>
Asus e402ma==Hp stream 13
Display:Acer s1002(The best budget display and it has touchscreen and its ips which means amazing viewing angles. When i tell u its amazing its an understatement.Rocking a contrast ratio of almost 1000 it is almost 3 times more than most budget laptops)> Asus e402ma(Quite good for the price.Horizontal viewing angles are quite
nice but vertical viewing angles are pretty bad)>Dell Inspiron 3452==Asus x205ta>Hp stream 13(Matte display whcih meaning amazing sunlight legibility and less reflections but it also means reduction in contrat and the color pop effect and also worse viewing angles)>Asus x553(Its display is pretty bad)
Storage:Asus x553>Asus e402ma(Simply because you can add an hdd or ssd as it has a free sata port)>Acer s1002==Dell Inspiron 3452==Hp Stream 13==Asus x205ta==Hp stream 13
Connectivity:Asus x553(Its not huge for no reason.U can expand the ram to 4gb)>Asus e402ma(Sad part is that the sd card sticks out but it more than makes up for it
with an ethernet and vga port)>Dell Inspiron 3452>Hp Stream 13>Asus x205ta(Nothing special.Lacks Usb 3.0 port)>Acer s1002(Micro sd card slot is pretty bad as the
maximum read speed is 22mb/s and therefore installing programs on external micro sd card is not practical due to long loading times and it Lacks Usb 3.0 port.)
Portability(Weight,Size and Battery Life :Asus x205ta(Less than a kg and battery life ~11 hrs>Acer s1002(Batter Life ~ 8 hrs)>Hp stream 13(Battery life ~6 hrs and most preffered size and form factor>Dell Inspiron 3452(Battery Life ~7 hrs)>Asus e402ma(Battery Life ~6hrs>Asus x553(Pretty heavy and huge and battery life ~2-3 hrs
*Pls create a recovery drive as soon as u get the laptop then get a fresh windows 10 image from the windows website and reinstall windows. This means lots more storage as there is no recovery drive and also no bloatware.
*If u are buying a non-windows laptop make sure the drivers are available on the website. And use genuine windows because it saves alot of time and also gives
important updates and security fixes.
And lastly if u liked my review pls give it a helpful.

Its totally worth the price, For your buck let me tell u what exactly u are getting and what not and how it sweetens the deal.
What u get:
a. A lightweight easy to hold and carry small yet workable powerhouse
b. Long about 5-6 hours of Screen on time and that with actual usage
c. Fast charging technology for laptops
d. Silent but not dead silent
e. Great chiklet keyboard
What u don't:
a. Don't expect a performer here , with just 2 gibs of ram u can open 3-4 tabs and work on One note , play background music at most. Rest u cant do on this buddy.
b. Only with 32 gibs on board storage however it can be expanded with external hard disk as it has 2 dedicated slots with it 1 usb 2.0 and other 1 usb 3.0 and also internally upto 1 TB(which will void ur warranty yet asus has a provision for expansion) but the problem lies that RAM cannot be expanded.
c. The white one looks great but u have to clean it every 2 days.
And here's how u can sweeten the deal this series is available at Flipkart web for 17k
but at app it is available for 15K along with 5% extra cash back with all banks eligible plus on my recommendation go with the black/dark blue one, it looks better with hopefully lesser maintenance.

I brought the eeebook x205ta for my friend. it was a superb budget laptop with ohk screen but a monstrous battery life that was on par with the MacBook air.
with the newest eeebook e402 ma, the screen size has been bumped to 14 inches but with the same resolution. that’s fine for the price. the biggest short coming is the 32 GB of internal memory out of which 15 is user accessible.
but buyers have to know that ASUS has a hidden port on the bottom that can fit in a 2.5 inch HDD. I was delighted to find that and expanded the memory via an old laptop HDD.
over all, a nice laptop with excellent keyboard and track pad. but not for gamers. works perfectly for word processing and media consumption.
Best laptop at this price range

this is one of the best laptop for day to day use.
1. doesn't have a fan, so you can place it where ever you want without worrying about the air outlet.
2. Light weight.
3. smart gesture touchpad. Its kind of cool you could scroll pages, images with by just swiping(just like in Mac air).
4. Good screen clarity.
5. USB 3.0.
1. Less internal storage. user space available is around 10.g.b. You cannot extend the storage like eee 205ta(previous version) with micro s.d card. There is an s.d card slot but its like other laptop where the sd card protrudes out. So its more like an USB slot. you could use it as an external storage but not as an internal storage.
2. Too many open application slows it down. Be sure to remove the pre installed Macfee antivirus. It slows your computer a lot. Install light antivirus like nod 32 or kaspersky.
My requirements were simple. I wanted an laptop to watch movies, do office works and edit pics with Adobe lightroom and this perfectly suited my needs.
Very nice for this price

:) Light Weight - Seriously Stunning, Expandable memory upto 2TB

Sleek Design, Average Weight
No Plastic feeling but glossy
Decent yet attractive keyboard
windows 10 pre loaded
Speaker are pretty good and loud, when connect to theatre or BT speaker performs well
Nice Built quality for this price
Decent battery life
Low Capacity for SSD Storage
can store 32 GB nonetheless 128 GB SD card may fix it
two fingers scroll fails sometime
by sayantan ghosh on 2016-01-17
Nice for its price, good for basic uses and simple games, runs store games easily.
Specs are nice. You get 1.88 gb ram usable out of 2 gb. Speakers are good, display and webcam are standard yet good. One notable point is wobbly nature of Keys inspite of a nice, sturdy build quality. Overall, awesome for a sub 15k laptop.

Perfect for those who don't use CPU configuration as status symbol among peers :) :D
by luck! on 2016-03-11
I was earlier using DELL Inspiron 1525 laptop with core 2 Duo processor which I bought in 2008(costing about Rs.44,000), during my college days and it was enough for my computing requirements. Sadly it crashed few days back, so I decided to buy Dell Vostro 15 3558 with Core i3 processor but it was costing about Rs.24,935, then I decided to look for other alternatives as the premium paid for higher CPU configuration would not yield much for me. At this instance I came across Asus Eeebooks 11.6 inch laptop costed about Rs.14.5k and considered it to be value for money but then came a lightening deal on 04.Mar.16 from Amazon and I was able to buy this cool 14 inch Eeebook 402MA at the price of Rs.14,699/-(delivered by the ever dependable: Cloudtail).
Just to be sure I compared my Intel Core2 Duo T5250 processor and the Intel Celeron N2840 offered in this Eeebook on "Cpuboss" website, Celeron N2840 scored 6.3/10 against 1.7/10 of the former. So the present processor quite nicely fulfils all my requirements of web browsing, little gaming, ms office and entertainment too apart from these the notebook has a classy feel.
I called ASUS India helpline for warranty and was told they offered 1 year warranty from the date of Invoice upon verification. They emailed me the proforma and I filled the proforma and submitted to them with a soft-copy of the invoice and next day got an email from ASUS conforming the warranty....
Hope the review will be of some use for others like me going through a tough time finding a laptop among the myriad of options.....

Received E402SA instead of E402MA. The one i received is only 1.6 GHZ processor instead of 2.1 GHZ.
I bought it for my parents so a processor of 1.6 GHZ does not matter much.
It's a good laptop, but the above issue spoiled it for me. I am not writing a detailed review which otherwise I would have.
I bought samsung EVO 750 SSD (120GB) as someone else suggested. Installation (fitting it in) was easy and took 10 minutes.
Then struggled to clone the hard disk (actually eMMC) to SSD. Tried EaseUS and Macrium and failed. Then came across 'Samsung Data migration' software [...]
This worked like a charm - cloned in 9 minutes, made the SSD as C drive, and made the existing eMMC disk 'offline'. See pic.
Speed seems better. Will check benchmarks and report it here.
Like another reviewer here
by Amazon Customer on 2016-05-31
Like another reviewer here, I also received the 402SA model.
No complaints about the performance though - its speed is alright for my usage (docx/ ppt editing, heavy browsing). The laptop (as also the charger) is lightweight , very good battery performance (can be fully charged up from 10% within ~ 2 hours, and runs for ~ 5.5 hours for medium to heavy usage). It came along with a set of tiny screws, which are essential for getting an HDD installed.
@ appearance: sleek, but smudges too easily.
Good product for light programs
by Orville Cota on 2016-05-14
1. It's very good for basic use like entertainment and light MS Office work. Work in MS Office involving graphics or pictures will be difficult to work with.
2. Great battery life of about 6-8 hours.
3. Noiseless operation.
4. Screen is very clear and crisp.
5. Touchpad is very responsive and supports Windows 10 multi touch features which are very useful. It is very smooth too.
6. The eBook is comparatively light and has an impressive build quality.
1. Your OS is stuck to the 32GB eMMC storage. I tried to move the OS on the internal SSD which I installed and found it to be inconvenient.
2. MS Office with moderate graphics or pictures will be difficult to work with.( I used MS Office 2013).
3. Using the VGA camera is not recommended except for in extreme conditions. An average phones front facing camera is much better.
4. The surface of the eBook is easily subjected to smudges.
This is just a perfect laptop for daily use.
by Sanket K on 2016-03-14
Laptop design is good, tactile finish is giving premium look. Slim in size and finish is also impressive. keyboard is also giving premium feel. Price is unbelievable for this classic premium design. You can upgrade your laptop storage up-to 3 TB, it comes with slot for HDD upgrade.
