I bought this product for 51k which is so cheap, but after buying i found two problems. One with the touch screen . Whenever i close the screen and open again without shutting down the laptop i see lot of dots in screen but it will go off as soon i restart. Then with the Motherboard. Very Bad experience . I can sense small amout of current passing through the body of laptop which is very unusual and then while playing high end graphics game as soon as i remove the power outlet the game gets stuck which is also totally unusual. And the projector pin and usb pin automatically disconnects and connects automatically. So think twice before u purchase

The only laptop in this price range of comparable specs and build quality is the HP Envy M6. You should choose this one over the M6 if you care about having a touchscreen. This may not seem like much on a laptop, but with Windows 8 it really helps.
The laptop itself is surprisingly sleek, but you should note that it's a bit on the heavier side.
Plus the hybrid HDD is not a gimmick; it boots up in, on average, 6 seconds.
It's pretty smooth, and more Windows 8 updates just makes it even better.
You surely won't regret getting this one.

@amrit - SSD is a data storage device using integrated circuit assemblies as memory to store data persistently. SSD technology uses electronic interfaces compatible with traditional block input/output (I/O) hard disk drives. Compared with electromechanical disks, SSDs are typically less susceptible to physical shock, run more quietly, have lower access time, and less latency.
P.S. - I'm going for this ultrabook... :D
How is this even for gaming?

How can someone call this a gaming ultrabook when it wont be even able to run Watch Dogs? For a laptop of such price, a 4GB RAM is too low......... Better go for Asus K55VM

Yes, this this is big and heavy. But still they call it an ultrabook because of its thickness. It is less than 1" thick and the black aluminium finish is good. This is definitely looks a step above other low priced laptops and the quality is easily noticeable even for a normal user. But again this is not the best looking ultrabook, I would say average looking among the ultrabooks.
Size: This is big, bigger than the normal 15" laptops. The size is due to the large bezels on all sides of the display. The small thickness of this laptop projects a wide and large appearance. Beware when you buy bags, this will never fit in 14" bags. Go for 15" bags.
Well Built: I have been using this laptop for almost a year now and this is my daily work laptop. I use it everyday for more than 12 Hrs 7 days a week. Carry it to office everyday. But even after one year of rough use, there is hardly any visible scratches or marks. The aluminium shell with scratch resistant coating has held up well till now.
Performance wise: 3rd Gen i5 with 24GB SSD makes this boot up really fast. As marketed, it takes less than 2sec to boot from deep sleep state. With Win8, you rarely shut down your laptop, and all you use is the deep sleep mode by pressing the power button once. I shut down or reboot the laptop once in 1 or 2 months, and those who use Win8 will know how many clicks you need to do to shut it down.
Battery: After almost one year of daily usage, the battery backup has reduced a little. Initially I used to get >4 hours backup, now I get less than 4. But I have been taking care of the battery well, by keeping it well charged most of the time while in use thereby reducing the no of recharge cycles.
Gaming: I don't play games and probably haven't used the builtin 2GB GeForce 635M card. I used it a couple of time to do some quick photoshop works. Else it is the Intel HD graphics that is in use 99.9% of time and never experience any issues. To use GeForce, you have to right click the application and select "Run With Graphics processor".
Memory: It comes with 4GB stick and it is not adequate. Go for another 4GB, else the machine slows down when you have too many IE windows open. Anything above 10 IE windows, the system slows down. After adding another 4GB, It is doing well and I am also running 4 HyperV servers with 1.5GB ram each on this laptop for test purposes. They all run simultaneously without any issues.
Hard Disk: 750GB 24GB SSD cache. however, the 750HDD is slow and makes noise. After one year, I can hear the krr krr noise once in a while. Not sure whether it will last long.
Keyboards: Comfortable, no issues so far. I am not good at fast typing, so check other reviews. Backlit is sorely missed here.
And the Bad: Sound. Sound is very very weak. However quality is good if you are in a noise free environment. So don't fall for the Sonic Master things.

The default of this laptop is speakers and the Graphic card speakers has very less volume that is not even to the expectations and the graphic card while playing the game or doing some thing the laptop gets heat.in remaining cases it is good(kindly think once 10 times to buy this product
by Pankaj Kumar on 2013-11-08
the sound quality of this laptop is very bad bcz the speaker is placed inside its bottom level and the processor speed is not good. the service quality promised by its company is false bcz it has no any its own service center and they are providing the service by some other IT SOLUTION COMPANY LIKE F1 SOLUTION..service provided by it's customer service is very poor. so, i request to buyer please check its performance and quality before buying it mentioned by the company. although its looking is very nice.but it's performance is not up-to the mark.the master sonic sound is not clearly audio able when u r watching any movie in this.It takes more time to process any application and in some cases it is incompatible with some program.the gaming performence is very bad.

I don't want to talk much about what is in the specifications. Any how you will get what is been promised. Here is my user experience with the product.
Softwares and Drivers
The very first thing I love is the notebook comes with everything pre-loaded. There is no hassle that you have find and update the driver and no nasty updates that will take a day long.
ASUS included many useful software preloaded, power saving features and also there is free cloud subscription for a year. I’ll bet even kids can setup this new notebook up and running it’s so easy.
The aluminum body is really solid and has premium finish. Definitely it will be envy of your friends. I heard from some reviews that keyboard bends at center when you press the keys but I don’t feel it is there. Remember it’s an ultra book. It is very sleek with thickness < 1 Inch. The notebook is really cool I meant it to say stays cool even after some reasonable GPU usage. There are no heating problems to worry about.
Though I feel with screen resolution is no up to class mark it will not disappoint you in anyways.
Touch screen is very sensitive and has full support for 10pts multi touch. Glass finish screen is really good convenient to use. Asus had included clean cloth with package should be useful.
I don’t feel screen builds smudges easily it pretty cool to continuous usage.
I feel it to be special than my other laptops. For a notebook it is definitely above average.
The Keyboard is well spaced I feel very convenient to use when compared to my other laptops. There is full set of keys and there won’t be any disappointment you will also find num pad to save you from office works.
Touch pad is larger and pretty smart with ASUS software and has support up to 3 finger multi touch gesture support with this it does many magic’s. Also automatically disables when I connect to a mouse.
Again the in connectivity you will have your entire wish for. 1-USB 3.0, 2 – USB 2.0, HDMI, VGA, Bluetooth 4.0, and WIFI as it is in the spec mentioned of the product.
Again with ASUS Support software makes magi c with true 2 second boot time not mention all because of SSD for speedy boot. Every day task goes buttery smooth. Remember it is with GeForce® GT 635M graphics I couldn’t make processors cry out, with moderate GPU intensive games it all goes all well. Yet to do the bench mark with heavy GPU Work.
Even with all ultra book specifications battery lasts only for about 4 - 4.5 Hrs for normal usage. I expected little more but may be it is due to 15" Touch screen this is what we can expect from 44WHr Battery.
It may be a little difficult for an average computer user to understand how the new windows is organized. But you should be loving this touch optimized nice user interface at very first sight. There are lots of apps for Win8 Modern UI a.k.a Metro in Store. I will say windows 8 is really redefined for modern generation. What you take away at the end is real increase in usability of computers and opens up myriads of possibilities for user interface. The market is not yet mature definitely it’s going to be rocking up with time.
Verdict for the Product
This ASUS S550CM will be a premium experience with a wow. Of-course it may be not the best that money can buy. But it is reasonably priced, well may be bit pricier than ordinary laptops but definitely worth for the features offered. It will be a complete ultra book without any compromises in any directions.
I had spent only little more than week with it as of now I didn’t find any issues with ultra book if any will keep you posted ;)
Though there is delay in product shipment, Customer care executives are very polite in answering questions and responsible. The packing and delivery are very premium. Oh forgot to mention Flipkart’s Product buying assistance as service is also very good. Executive is knowledgeable and with their help I can able to decide on product.

Got my hands on it and I must say its asus's best laptop ever. I bought it from asus exclusive store 2 days back.. it has NVidia 635m 2 gb graphics card that handles latest titles at decent frame rates. its sleek and beautiful to look at with its aluminium finish.. the touch screen is quite responsive and works great with windows 8.. it even has a disk drive..
Pros - Touchscreen, good graphics card, beautiful.
cons - generates too much heat while playing games, screen resolution is basic 1366 x 768.
