by prashanth on 2014-02-06
I got this laptop from snapdeal at 23.5k only, so bought it from there and received it in a day. So, no issues. Flipkart price is 26k, 2.5k more than snapdeal.
1. Very light weight.
2. Value for money.
3. Great configuration.
1. Just 3 hrs of battery charge.
2. Average touchpad.
3. Average Keyboard.
Rating of components with rrspect to this pricing.
Configuration : 5stars
Battery : 3stars
Using this for a week now and is worth every single penny u spend on this beast. Tough u can compare it with many standout devices with a better config, but if u are looking for a light weight laptop with a great config, there is nothing better than this in the market. I am simply loving using it and there seem to be no problems whatsoever till now, everything seems great. Boot up Windows 8 into it and it runs like butter.
A nice buy. But not completely satisfied.

First, the worst: Though this product has many qualities that will make you love it, I am a bit disappointed about the touchpad. It is a bit noisy when you click buttons, not so smooth while you swipe, lags/misses some swipes and then you have to swipe repeatedly to get some real grip. Yes; it is very broad that it occupies 1/3 rd of the bare surface.
All other features are very good. It's very light, handy, nice build. Good performance with i3 and on-board 4GB RAM. easy operations. Fast file copying.
Windows Exp Index
CPU : i3-3217U CPU @ 1.80GHz - 6.2
RAM 4.00 GB - 5.9
Graphics Intel(R) HD4000 - 4.6 (I don't care)
Gaming graphics 1696 MB - 6.0
HDD - 5.9
Sound :I find it enough and am content with it. I don't expect a 100W RMS o/p from this poor piece.
Display : Good, Bright.
Battery : Yet to test. It is in-built ( I mean, not seen externally and non-removable)
All components are packed into it. ie, internal. Cannot remove RAM/HDD/Battery without spoiling warranty. :(
Power Adapter: A cute piece, resembles mobile chargers.
CAPS lock indicator : Present Sir. :)
Heat: During the installation, there was considerable amount of heat being expelled. But now, it outputs only warm air.
All ports are arranged on both side starting from the display hinge end. It facilitates easy movement of hands, never obstructed by cables, jacks protruding.
Asus Products : I have been using Asus from the last 3 years. What I love about it is user friendliness. First the chiclet keyboard, I find it better than others (especially toshiba). Then, Touch pad with smart gesture support; easing the navigation.
Final Verdict : VFM, Good buy, Best for frequent travelers. Go for it.

EDIT: I had a bit of an issue with charging since 2nd week of having this(sometimes it charged while plugged in, sometimes it didn't). One evening(1 month since I bought it) I was playing a game and was on battery, I didn't notice it was nearly empty, when it was critically low, i had to turn it off, and I put it to charging. But it would not turn on, so I took it to the service center.
For two weeks I was being told that they are waiting for replacement parts, and later a replacement laptop yet. These two weeks have turned to more than two months now and I have neither a refund nor a replacement.
The laptop was decent for what the cost but I cannot recommend it to anyone because of extremely bad service from ASUS.
Do not buy this one because they seem to have stopped production, and no spares or replacement units are available.
Bought this to replace old netbook.
Tried Ubuntu 14.04 on live USB, WiFi, most fn keys, touchpad gestures etc. worked fine out of the box.
Installation was a bit of a hassle because the BIOS did not have a legacy mode, only UEFI and this is the first time I had to deal with it. (live boot Ubuntu, use gparted to format hard disk with a GPT partition table, create efi system partition as 200mb fat32, set boot flag on it, create more partitions as needed, all primary, in Ubuntu 14.04 64bit installer, use the efi partition you created for bootloader install location).
Haven't tried windows on it yet, will do so soon.
Battery backup is a bit disappointing, only 2.5-3 hours. Left side near the fan outlet gets a bit hot. Plastic body seems sturdy.
Screen brightness is good, maybe a little bit uneven around the edges.
Sound through earphones/headphones was good, noticeably better than on anything else I have, desktop, phone, netbook. Don't use built in speakers much but the output was okay I think.
WiFi reception is a tiny bit worse than my old netbook's so I have to keep my router at a new position.
Also, for this resolution, 11.6 is the perfect size, 15.6" is just Huge.
Overall, quite satisfied as of now.
Stealer at this price!!
by Bitanshu Das on 2014-07-17
This is the first time I tried flipkart 1 day delivery and I was certainly more than impressed. Despite a mess up in pin code, I got the order in the following day.
The laptop is a stealer at this price. No other laptop had the config of this one at this price range. The 11.6" screen is crisp and sharp and its size and weight makes it easy to carry around. The boot up is very fast and so far dont have any complains regarding it. The touchpad is a bit more sensitive and user just need to tune it up according to his preference.
Overall a great budget laptop.

There is no other product currently in the market that offers this combination of specifications and price-point. Intel Core I3 processor with 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD. VGA + HDMI ports. Most portable machines these days skimp heavily on ports.
The experience has not been pleasant so far: The laptop does not come with MS Windows. I have installed Ubuntu 14.04. Though Ubuntu is working flawlessly, lack of cheap OEM Windows means that many users will simple install a pirated version of Microsoft's OS and Microsoft will continue to only offer a horribly over-priced OS and crib about lack of sales.
The Escape key, The Up-Arrow key and the Down-Arrow key on the laptop have stopped working. Dead. Their response from day one was very erratic and just beyond Flipkart's product return window, the keys have died altogether. Now I have to run around with Asus's pathetic service centers and essentially be stranded with a 'refurbished' laptop purchased a 'new retail' price.
My previous Asus EeePC also developed Mouse-button problems soon after purchase and required running around for service. The second Asus purchase has proved no different.
Comparatively, both my Acer laptops are working flawlessly and so are the hundred HP/Compaq/Dell laptops at office.
Update: 22 July 2014: I am now the proud owner of a third Asus Laptop that has come with manufacturing defects.
I purchased another X200CA-KX219D laptop from Amazon on 19-July and it arrived on 21-July with a bright-red stuck pixel and defective touch pad button (left click).
Both the X200CA laptops are now currently resting at Asus's service center.
So the bottom-line is that you pay the full price for Asus products and in less than a month they are reduced to being refurbished products (worth less than half).

Features I like the most :
Extremely light weight: you can easily hold it with one hand
Sturdy build: not delicate but quite rigid, even on the LCD.
Keyboard: spacious keys make typing a delight.
Thin: the laptop is quite thin specially on the front
Charger: charger is mac inspired. Similar size and build, just black.
Indicator LEDs: 5 of them - power, battery, hdd, wi-fi and capslock.
Sound: you won’t expect such volume and quality initially.
Things I wish were better :
Arrow Keys: can’t blame the designers, just wish they were bigger.
Camera: though I never use it, a HD camera will be appreciated.
Power Button: could have been designed and placed better.
Touch Pad: Clicks are noisy.

Why do Apple Macbooks come in 13 inch size? Because thats the most optimum size for a laptop. 13 inch is sufficient for daily internet browsing, gaming and documents. And thats why you wont find a single 13 inch laptop below 30k in Indian market. This is the great indian laptop loot.
Hence, this laptop is unique. Its the only one which offers mobile size (11 inch) and has no gimmick - real powerful i3 processor with 4GB RAM. I didnt buy this from flipkart as Asus India is known for its lame after sale services. Bought it from a nearby shop so that they can deal with Asus guys.
Coming back to this machine, its beautiful. Screen is crisp and clear. I find keys good. The touchpad is good, the buttons are very hard. Thankfully, there are gesture(s) enabled and you can do all your work 80% of the time. I would soon move to a wireless mouse though.
I installed Windows 7. The laptop is fast enough for browsing and doesnt slow down with many tabs open. I have not seen a single crash or hung up system in 2 days of rough usage. Its a powerful laptop.
i3 is a real processor, and real processor generate heat. So the heat sink on right may be a little uncomfortable. The charger is not the standard one and is small pin one. Thats okay.
If you buy this sweet little machine, make sure you get it laminated properly. Its very beautiful and will get yellow marks when you use it while eating.
Rating is 5.
Seriously good stuff !!!

1) First of all , this laptop is the best bang for the buck. I just purchased it (August 2014) and can safely say its a good choice.
2) The mouse trackpad is perfectly usable, and pretty large so that gives the macbook feel. The best potential is unlocked by downloading the Asus multi-touch drivers from the website. Just google.
3) Now the most important part, those looking to dual boot Windows and Linux (I used 8.1 Pro with Ubuntu 14.04) here is how to go:
a) Make sure you format your USB pen drive for Windows 8.1 to EFI bootable GPT partition table (this is very crucial to dual boot linux later ,don't install windows in legacy mode). I used ISO2Disk for this.
b) Use F2 to boot in BIOS. Change boot order to boot from USB (can be little tricky to figure out for this specific BIOS on Asus, just use the +/- keys to change the boot order)
c) I deleted all partitions till there was single unallocated space. Install windows on that. The setup will auto-create 4 partitions.
d) Diable fastboot (not sure if totally required, I did it though). No need to turn off secure boot and stuff like you may read elsewhere.. as it is you will get a message on lower right corner stating that Secure boot is not fully enabled .This is fixed my downloading the Microsoft patch: Windows8.1-KB2902864-x64 (just google)
e) Make a bootable linux pen drive. I used Win32 Disk Imager (Universal USB Installer did not work for me).
f) In windows shrink you drive to make space for Linux, leave it unallocated if you wish.
g)Boot to Linux installer. Ensure that you get a black screen where you can choose trying ubuntu or installing it. This signals that it booted up in UEFI mode. If you get the dark pink screen directly, it means legacy mode which we don't need.
h) Create a swap partition of 2 or 4 GB from the unallocated space. Then create another Ext4 partition with the remaining space and set the mounting point to " / " ie root. Ensure bootloader is to be installed on /sda !!
i) Proceed to installation. Everything should be smooth after this ;) . You can dual-boot on startup .

by DIPAK GUHARAY on 2014-06-22
Got this laptop a few weeks ago from flipkart at around 23.5k, recieved it within 1.5 days
1. Really slim and light (only 1.2kg !!)
2. Excellent config (i3 3rd gen + 4GB + 500GB) for the price
3. Looks really premium
4. Display is very good quality, but its reflective, so u need to bump up brightness outside
1. Average battery life (around 4 hours max on light use, 2.5-3 on heavy)
2. White colour attracts dirt (but cleanable easily) (they decided to make the grey model for only the celeron based one :| )
Performance -> 5/5
Looks -> 5/5
Battery -> 3/5
Display -> 4/5
Usability -> 5/5
Overall, its worth the money. I recommended this to my relative too (she got it at 22.6k) and she likes it very much too.
You can take it with eyes closed, there are no better alternatives at this low price
