Nice and sleep Professional Machine
by Anirudh Sharma on 2013-01-12
I brought this a week ago from a nearby store.
Firstly at the time I bought I found that it's not easy to find Probooks on Normal Stores after a bit of searching and finding I booked this laptop from a nearby store.
1)Nice Sturdy looks
3)I5 3rd Gen processor
4)500GB 7200 RPM Hard disk from Hitachi.
5)Multitasks with ease.
6)Very clear HD webcam which works in Low light pretty fine.
7)The Machine is absolutely Quiet.
8)The speakers are crystal clear.
1)No Pre-installed version of Windows.
2)HP's drivers can be awful, it gave me a hard time installing the correct Finger print driver and the software. Do not try DIGITAL PERSON and other stuff available Try installing only HP Protect tools the .NET 3.4 framework should be installed before hand for this I got it to work once but still the installation had a few glitches and a few components didn't install properly. HP driver updates can be useful so one should consider using Original version of Windows. I have Windows 8. It's going pretty much smooth till now apart form the finger print driver software thing.
3)The battery back up is nearly 4 hours working with browsers and video players and stuff. Not 7 or 6 watever is mentioned int he specs.
Overall if you are a Software engineer of any kind you would love it as you don't have to worry about installing windows and drivers and stuff and the notebook looks tempting enough to make you still open up eclipse and start coding :-P
Below is the Windows Experience Index on Windows 8 with lowest sub score 4.8 which is appreciable!

Graphics Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 4.8
Gaming graphics 1732 MB Total available graphics memory 6.2
Primary hard disk 324GB Free (355GB Total) 5.9

Fingerprint sensor works great for logging in.
HD web camera with flash.
Very fast processor. Opening applications and browsing web is swift and easy.
Speakers are good. enough to fill a room
Average Looks but the laptop is solidly built and feels very sturdy.
Touchpad is okay.
Intel Graphics 4000 are pretty okay. Not 3000 as mentioned in the specs.
Drivers for the touchpad are awful and synaptics doesn't function well. I had to uninstall them.
Battery life is average. Im getting around 3 to 3 and half hours on full charge.
Screen is not up to the mark.

I gave it a 5 rating as it delivered what it promised.
It met my requirement of a well built, performance oriented, professional laptop which did not come pre-loaded with windows.
Positives (facts from datasheet)
- 3rd Gen i5 3210M with Intel HD Graphics 4000
- 500 GB Sata (7200 RPM)
- Gigabit Ethernet
- Enough USB 3.0 slots
- 4 GB Ram (and a free memory slot for future upgrades)
The build and the finish is quite good and stands out when compared to the laptops of other vendors (that I saw in their showroom). The touch pad and left/right buttons worked perfectly.
It is also very quiet and did not heat up even after 5-6 hours of normal usage.
- The small Up and Down keys are uncomfortable at first.
- The keyboard comes with a numpad (depending on usage, this can be a waste or a good feature to have)
- The headphone jack is at the front. (I usually get poked a lot by such laptops when I connect the headphone and then place it on the bed)
This variation does not come with a pre-installed windows which can be a deal breaker for some. However, the system seems powerful enough to be able to run VM's comfortably.
I bought this after reading the good reviews that the 8GB version of this model has received (and watching the youtube videos of the 4540s probook model). This 4GB version comes with a free memory slot (I can always upgrade it to 8 GB later if required)
NOTE: I have so far installed Fedora 17 on it and have been using the laptop for a day now :) I have not played any audio / video on it yet, so I am not able to comment on them. If allowed, I will update this review later. This is obviously not a gaming laptop, but I am eager to try out some linux games on it.
What a machine! Serves the needs, If you know what your needs are!

The people at FlipKart are getting lazy and not putting accurate specs. But, the other reviews mention the Laptop specs accurately here, and also you can get the detailed specs using the product code by searching it on the Internet. I bought this laptop when it was costing Rs.38220 with a Rs.1000 cask back from flipkart. I got it for a sweet 37220. This is not a gaming Laptop and is tailor made business Laptop for people with knowledge of computers, It is basically a do it yourself deal. Don't crib about Windows, install it on your own and save a few bucks. All the Drivers are available at HP website. I would also suggest you buy the 8GB corsair DDR3 1600 C11 RAM available at flipkart for 3k and put it in the empty RAM slot. Then you will have 12GB of installed physical memory which would work in Dual channel mode in perfect harmony with the included 4GB. The 12GB is split 10.3GB for O/S and rest for the graphics. There are videos on HP website on how to remove the back panel and service the whole damn thing, so don't worry, just be meticulous patient and bold while handling this thing, you can install the RAM on your own.
The only cons I can say are the small up/down arrow keys.
