Pros: Solid build quality, Low price, Excellent sound quality
Cons: Amp is not that powerful but sufficient for IEMS and low impedence headphones, minor ui issues
The Fiio X1 is extremely well built. It is a bit thick but that didn't bother me at all. Although it can seem metallic, its mostly plastic but fit and finsih is great.
UI and screen :-
The screen is okay. Nothing out of the ordinary. It gets the job done. The UI looks pleasing but has some quirks but nothing too major. They also seemed to have fixed most of the issues with firmware updates but i do think the UI can be refined a bit more. The UI and the buttons were not very intuitive to use
If i had to complain i would say that the blue light at the bottom is annoying but that might just be me
I got used to the UI pretty quick and was able to navigate very easily with the mechanical wheel, Though its not nearly as fast and intuitive as my Ipods
Sound Quality :-
This is my first "audiophile" DAP, so instead of using esoteric terms ill compare them to other music players ive used:
1) Compared to my phone and ipod classic, the Fiio X1 just sounds better. The bass and treble are more defined and resolution seems to be better
2) Compared to my ipod touch the sound quality is similarly good but the bass seems less pronounced and more natural and the highs are much smoother
The fiio x1 feels like a solid product to me and i would say that i'm very happy with the purchase. It is a damn good music player at Rs 8000.

FIIO X1 is my first "audiophile" DAP, damn good music player at Rs.7500/-,feels like a solid product to me and i would say that i'm very happy with the purchase.Sound quality is excellent when compared to other portable players.Highly recommended for serious music listeners. The spin wheel of the device is lil annoying, but that's oky with the prize and sound quality of the device.
Solid overall build and sound quality from this budget-priced high resolution audio player!

One evening while rocking my baby boy to sleep in a stroller and listening to MP3 files on my iPhone 6, I had an epiphany: "I'm tired of these compressed highs that sound so harsh!" I was ripping all my CDs to MP3s with 320Kbps constant bitrate and listen to them with very good Sony IEMs with wide frequency response and utilize a third-party app with equalizer to tweak the sound, but my ears were getting fatigued listening to sibilant highend (cymbals and drum snares especially). That's when I made the decision to look into listening to higher-quality FLAC files on a dedicated digital audio player (DAP) like the FiiO X1. I looked at the Sony HiRes players, but those were just too expensive for my budget. I considered converting an old Android phone into a high resolution audio player, but the DAC chip in the phone was garbage and not capable of reproducing high resolution audio. And I sure wasn't about to layout the cash for an Astell & Kern AK240 DAP (as nice as those may be). I was aware of FiiO via their low-cost headphone amps, so looked into what they offered for DAPs and found the X1.
I've been living with this DAP for about a month now and have paired it with Xiaomi Piston 2 IEMs (my other cans at home are Sennheiser HD555). For $100, you can't go wrong with this player. Yes, you must buy a separate microSD card to store you music, but Class 10, 32GB microSDs cost $15 now online. Music files are added to the microSD card on your personal computer via drag and drop and then on the X1 you manually rebuild the music library thru a function in the device settings. The sound the unit produces is very pleasing to my ears. Many pair this unit with external headphone amp, but personally I don't think one is necessary. Using the Piston 2 IEMs, I leave the volume at around 50 (half-way point) and that's plenty loud. The UI is well-thought out and the physical build is solid. The included graphic equalizer works well. Love that the unit turns itself off after five minutes of non-use - this ensures longer battery life. With the screen off, one can adjust volume, skip tracks or pause play -- but you must select these in the Lockscreen options found on the Setting screen.
One major negative: the clickwheel is finicky and sometimes does not respond when turned. Wish that FiiO had chosen a real capacitive clickwhile for their device like Apple offered on the original ipods - feels like the wheel makes physical contact with nubs below that complete the circuit/connection to trigger a change in the interface. The end result is that the unit doesn't feel as sure of itself when there is feedback lag when using the clickwheel. Taking a star off my original review due to this.
FiiO packaging is solid and really appreciate that via a QR code the buyer can validate the legitimacy of the unit (knock-offs of Chinese-produced consumer electronics goods is a major issue and they have addressed this well). They include a good silicone case (black) to prevent scratches and damage to the unit. A screen protector came pre-installed! Another nice touch that shows someone in management kept the customer in mind!
Even with the one major negative, this is still a good solid DAP. No, it's not an Astell & Kern or Sony HiRes player, but that doesn't mean the sound it produces it not as pleasing. For a budget HiRes audio player, this is still a great deal and I still recommend this unit. Just be aware of the clickwheel/UI quirk.

UI is bit clunky but SQ is the best in class, at least better than ipods anyway. No internal memory, so SD card is a must. Battery backup is decent easily gets 10+ hrs on full charge. If planning on buying audiophile grade DAP, this is a great start point,
Excellent replacement of Cowon I audio 10
by Yash Tondwalkar on 2016-05-24
Excellent replacement of Cowon I audio 10 (which is discontinued by the manufacturer). The sound of the DAC is very warm and natural sounding and the signature sound is good.Cowon had a tranperant DAC like Samsung Galaxy phones. The sound was too coloured. I have four headphone and they all sounded almost same on cowon but Fiio X1sound exactly like song is recorder in the studio .I have read in some review that it is for a low impedance headphone..I totally disagree with that .It can also play my Sennheiser HD 598 which is very less sensitive than Audio Technicas ,Shure ,and Beyerdynamic very easily.Best DAC for the good quality headphones like Audio Technical 50x,Sennheiser Momentum & Sony MDR 7506.Please note that quality improves a lot after 20 hours of burn in.Must buy for music lovers ð??§ ð??µð???

After having read many reviews of the X1, I finally decided to buy it. I have currently tried the player with the Sennheiser HD 203 and in-ear headphones. The X1 is easy to setup. The X1 plays the MP3 and FLAC files very clearly. The low and mid tones in any song are outstanding.
Flipkart delivered the product ahead of schedule. Thanks.
