An Apple that suits the taste within reach..
by Raj Martin Crove Yona on 2013-12-23
I've Bought this one recently, not from India but from Japan... The pricing that flipkart offers is quite cheap as its original price is around 90k.
Well to tell about the product, it is a 2012 non retina model which has a 8x superdrive and an ethernet port which are terribly useful for anyone. While the new models which have Retina display neglects these ones and are also priced heavy, so you have to get them externally with additional money which is bad. Well what is the use of laptops which are premium but don't have necessary hardware?
Everyone is so obsessed with retina display becoz of the bright and striking screen, good processing speed as they are based on flash storage, but take a beating on basic features like dvd drive and ethernet ports and battery life....
Its better to go with this model rather than choosing retinas, if money is ur concern, but for all the others who are easy on your pocket u may proceed with retinas and of course buying additional external accessories from apple.
* Sturdy and beautiful
* Good steady battery life( when i used it came upto more or less 6 hours of continous usage like watching videos and just browsing)
* Trackpad is amazing.
* Nice screen (though its a non retina model, its good)
* Good quality camera. Great for video chats.
* Virus free OS ( no need to worry about virus threats).
* It is upgradable( RAM, Hard disk etc can be upgraded while the retinas are not).
* Stereo speakers are good, with a slight amount of bass hanging around songs which cannot be heard from other laptops.
* The Headphone port supports earphone with mic.( i tried my sony earphones with mic which to my surprise worked and u can directly speak through the earphone's mic).
* Processing speed is average as what you would expect from an i5 with 4 gb RAM.
* Graphics are mediocre, only medium resolution games can be played because of the Intel HD 4000 graphics which has only 512 MB memory( seriously not for Gameboys).
* The two USB 3.0 ports are placed one close to another, u can't use two devices at a time unless it is very small without the body.
* Little bulky than retina models but less when compared to other brands.
Other than these i have no concern with the MBP and i truly love it.
Finally this one is not for professionals( like video editers etc) who look to extract maximum performance related to their work but a GOOD laptop for medium users and casual users( Students,etc)...
BUT it packs lot of features for which i am satisfied....
They are proving it(Apple) and this piece is worth every bit of your money and u will surely admire it...............
Awesome piece of hardware.

It's been more than a year. Best laptop within budget. Just upgrade RAM to 8GB and the machine will rock. I'm using this laptop for Python/Django development.
Battery backup is more than 7 hours, no heating problem, sometime, I use this for 2 days continuously.
Suggestion for a developer: Don't upgrade your OS until and unless you know how to setup environment variable, lot of development environments will break because of an upgrade. Factory installed OS is more than enough for you.

Bought this recently from Flipkart. This comes with preinstalled OS X EI Captain instead the specified older version Maverics. Its far better than the Windows. Stylish
She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts.

Bought this MacBook Pro from another account in Flipkart.
Good service from flipkart. Instant delivery.
First thing wrong is, the information here on the product page says this macbook pro has a force touch but in the apple website, it doesn't say so.
I've used it and this Macbook pro DOES NOT come with the force touch trackpad.
Second thing is, Flipkart did not mention any warranty details about this product in the product page when I bought it. I had to enquire about this with flipkart over email to finally take a decision.
Make sure you buy from WS Retail when you buy from flipkart so that you dont get any warranty issues. You can see that fllipkart is an authorised seller of Mac in the apple website.
About the product:
I got this model only because I needed the firewire, thunderbolt, optical drive and mainly the ethernet port. All this in exchange for the Retina Display?
I said no because my work is more on the audio side.
I felt I wasn't losing much without the Retina display. Moreover, I can even connect my Mac to an external display if I need a bigger screen then the 13.3" display
Also, I've been a windows user all these years and this mac is best if you are switching from windows to mac.
Yes, this mac doesn't come with an SSD but, I have the option to replace my optical drive and HDD with an SSD if the need arises. This cannot be done in the new Retina Macbooks.
I can also upgrade my Ram if necessary. One more thing you cant do with the new Retina Models.
You can go for this product if you,
1. Dont have any advantage of having a Retina screen.
2. Are on a tight budget.
3. Switching from Windows to Mac
Read all the reviews out there and decide if you really need a Retina display Mac. If you have decided that you dont need one, this Mac is your best buy for the buck.
I'm rating it 4 because flipkart confused about the warranty with this product.

This is the exact product which i got around 2 months back, this is not a retina display but ppl for whom this is the first macbook, they ll surely love tis.
ppl who love mac and those who use laptop just to use as a browser, music player and for watching movies can definitely go for this. The picture clarity and the sound clarity is really amazing. I actually tried the beats headset wit this macbook and its was just awesome.
ppl who are professional is not advisable, cause its a low end specs. it ll be really hard for u to work in final cut pro, aperture, sound logic, etc. afterall 4 gb ram and no graphics doest makes it professional.
If you the guy needs a laptop and u should stand from other means this is the best one. u ll really love it compared to the windows laptop series. except for the price:P

I ordered on 24th December with in-a-day guarantee and got it the very next day on Christmas.
A quick edit on the specs:
The OS offered is Mountain Lion (10.8.3) not Lion (10.7) with a free upgrade to OS X Mavericks (10.9).
All those Windows users, reluctant to changeover and think that Apple is just another elite brand asking too much for a low-spec laptop, just try once. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed with MacBook Pro. You have to use it to get acquainted with this amazing piece of technology and then you will definitely appreciate and love it.
Different from Windows:
One cannot really explain in depth that how Apple is different from Windows laptops. One can make points of difference, tell you advantages/disadvantages; but once you start using it you will not feel going back to Windows ever again. I can tell you this for sure from my experience as I have been using the MacBook Pro for past 3 years and bought myself another this Christmas.
Just Go For It.
by siddarthan nehru on 2013-08-04
you have mentioned the specification wrongly, please do change it, or some customer would file a suit against you, don't break your reputation yourself.
but this product is a great one, i have been using it for more than 1 year, great to use and love it.
mac book buyers, initially you would face some effort, because everyone is used with cramped windows, but soon you would start hating windows, and love this great product.

I have been a long time Mac user - from 2008, to be precise. It is no wonder that my past three laptops and a desktop have all been Mac's. And, being a world famous product, the review is not about the macbook pro at all.
Instead, I want to just point out the advantages of this deal. A recent release (retina screen / SSD) Macbook Pro costs close to 1L. This mid 2012 system, new-in-box costs only 62000 INR on the other hand. If it seems like a bad compromise, these are the upgrades I did to my previous MBP (same machine bought at a deal from Croma):
Converted the RAM to 16GB (yes - you read it right): 8500 INR
Converted the HDD to 512 GB SSD: 15000 INR.
For about 85,000 INR (including cost of the this macbook pro), I have a much better machine than I would get from buying a new in box retina display MBP with SSD (compare specs at 4GB RAM / 256GB SSD). Is the new product a bit thinner and a lot sexier? Yes. Is it worth 12GB less RAM, 256GB less Space, and 15000 INR more cost? It is debatable.
If you are in need of a reliable computer that can do office documentation as well as core programming; and you want it at a steal of a deal - close your eyes and go for it. This deserves the highest rating I would give for any product - 4 stars.
Fully satisfied with the product

*Fast delivery - got it within 4 days
*Best pricing - got it for 48k
*Latest product - manufacture date 2016
*OS - OS X El Capitan
*Battery backup - more than 6hrs
**little laggy while opening apps for first time (4gb ram, no ssd)
**little heavier(more than 2kg)
IF YOUR BUDGET IS BELOW 55K ,THEN THIS IS THE BEST OPTION. GO FOR IT

Awesome & Genuine product
by Rashmi Ranjan Sahoo on 2016-09-08
I received it within a day of ordering. Initially I visited a Apple re-seller to check the price, and performance - the guy over there told me a price of about 59k. He was trying to persuade me by saying if I buy online, I won't get 1 year warranty, plus they won't come with the latest Mac OS installed. Of course its up-gradable now-a-days, but I was a bit skeptical, since I would have had to download the update again. But after receiving this product I can say that this is 100% genuine, and with latest Mac OS (El Captain). On the box, I could see import date August 2016. And it gets automatically registered for 1 year warranty, once you follow the initial registration process using you Apple ID. The initial setup also offers ways to create a new Apple ID in case you do not have one - just like iPhone. Its fairly simple and straightforward. I called up Apple's customer care and they guided me to this site https://checkcoverage.apple.com which correctly displayed my valid purchase date, and warranty. On the performance, its pretty good for home use. If you compare the latest Mac Pro, this is slightly sluggish, but that is only due to hard disk. One can easily upgrade the hard disk to SSD, and get snappy response. Even more the RAM is also up-gradable. Only limitation is this does not have Retina display, but if you are on a tight budget, you would have to compromise a bit on that. Keyboard and Trackpad...awesomely responsive. Overall finish....great!
Just Cause the New Macs don't support RAM Upgrade
by Siddhesh Scindia on 2016-01-06
Went for this one as I had the 15 inch i7 earlier, which is not available anymore. Got this, put the old 8 gig ram and works just as good, Just haven't tried running After Effects, Premier Pro to check performance. Had some issues with third party apps, this comes with the new OS versions, I'm happy with Lion and there are many reliable apps out there that get all the functionalities as the new OS versions. Delivered on Time, flawless experience. Thinking of getting another 8 gig RAM to maintain same RAM make and see how that changes the experience. Runs Digital Audio Workstations like Ableton Live with 12-25 tracks at around 25% processor load. I find the 13 inch more portable, great for session records and remote recording of tracks and performances.

I got mine just 5 days ago for Diwali. I did a lot if research behind these macbooks and found that the current gen Macbook Retina have no scope of upgradeability. You are stuck with what you buy. The base model with 8GB Ram and 128GB SSD. There is basically nothing you could do with such a config. This macbook you can upgrade the RAM to 16GB, have the 500GB hard-drive, if needed remove the DVD drive and install a secondary SSD for the OS. Wonderful right? It is a sad thing what apple is doing with its laptops by not making them upgradeable. If you are looking to buy one without having a huge hole in your pocket, just buy it. Yes, it is outdated but it will still do justice. You will not regret. Thanks.

Creating a super Mac - Magic of upgrading
by Suresh Kumar on 2015-09-07
An Apple has to be good; Obviously! Excellent laptop!
I was using a Macbook AIr 128GB at home and Macbook Pro for work;
Absolutely love the battery life on my Air and it was ultra light; But ran out of space and was getting difficult to manage with an external drive
Was looking for upgrading to MacPro Retina 512 GB - Was going to cost me Rs.102K on Amazon; It was definitely over my budget
After careful reviews, I got this old Macbook Pro 2012 (non retina) for 52k - Saved 50K - Thanks to Amazon for the deal
I thought I will be disappointed with the screen - Pleasantly surprised! - This screen is excellent even though its non retina
Now here is what I did, like most people seem to be doing - Magic of upgrading
- Got 16GB RAM(8X2) for 9K - This is to replace the inbuilt 4GB RAM(2X2)
- Got 256GB SSD for 7K - This is to replace inbuilt 500GB Hard disk
- Got a Hard disk Caddy for 1.5K - This to replace inbuilt Optical Disc drive with the 500GB Hard disk
End result is a super Mac ! - I now have a personal MacBook with 750GB disc space and phenomenal performance coming from upgraded 256SSD and 16RAM - All this for 70K - Cant be beaten - Saving of 32K compared to Macbook Retina 500GB - Of course Retina is the best screen and great battery, but I would rather keep my 32K and buy something else
(28-Sep)Answers to some questions that came in the last few days..
- Upgrading this Mac is not very difficult; I did it myself, looking at some Youtube videos; It requires some screw drivers which are usually not available with us. (I ordered it onAmazon for Rs. 200); If you are not confident I suggest you take it to any local service centre; Its really 10-15min work - Better safe than sorry !
- The optical disc drive you remove out can be connected and used through external case; you get this case for appx Rs.700-1000 ; but I did not go for it
- The SSD and RAM are really cheap in US; you could save almost another 7-9k, if you have someone to source them for you
By the way today(28-Sep) this Macbook is part of deals.. Price is under Rs.50000.. Its a steal..go for it guys... its a good machine!
(2-Oct) - Updating based on some more questions that came in - I don't recommend doing the replacements yourselves; but if you absolutely want to, you will need 2 screwdrivers for doing this activity yourselves; One for external screws and replacement of HD with SSD Stanley 6 Pc Bi-Material Handle Precision Screwdriver Set 66-052 and the other for replacing DVD drive with the HD Jackly 31 in 1 Toolkit Multifunction Universal Magnetic Screwdriver Toolkit For LAPTOPS and MOBILES - I did not find any set that has both; hope this helps!
By the way - When you replace HD with SSD, you need to copy the Mac OS onto SSD(either from HD or through a bootable USB drive) and make SSD as start up disc(default) - Only then, you will see the drastic improvement on start up speed.
Please browse youtube and all details are available
Updated on 27th July 2016 based on some questions...
I have 16gb RAM on mine and works perfect. yes official limit is 8gb.. not sure why they do that..
Transcend 8GB DDR3 1600 Laptop RAM(X2) is what I have... They usually call you before shipping to cross-verify compatibility etc.
Mac Pro for those seeking VFM and not willing to spend big!
by Soumojit Ghosh on 2015-11-10
You can check out the specifications here, http://www.apple.com/in/macbook-pro/specs/
I was initially planning to get the 13" Retina 512GB in early 2016, but the steep hike in prices made me consider otherwise. To know more about the hikes, http://gadgets.ndtv.com/laptops/news/apple-india-quietly-increases-prices-across-the-entire-mac-lineup-753499
SELLER FEEDBACK (GadgetDirect):
1. Packaging was excellent. The laptop box was placed inside a high quality pitch-board box with support for the edges. Then placed inside the usual Amazon box with ample air-cushion protection.
2. Delivery was quick. Ordered around late afternoon yesterday and got it delivered today morning under normal delivery. This is probably because the item was located in a warehouse around Bangalore. Nevertheless considering its Diwali, the prompt delivery is highly appreciable.
3. Product is 100% authentic and warranty status confirms that. I did not need to register or upload any invoice or anything. Just logged in using my apple ID and checked for the status using my product serial number. Product is manufactured and imported in Oct 2015.
Reasons for considering this product:
1. Price. For anything around 52 to 55k, this is a steal. The MRP has already been hiked from 78,900 to 89,900 so it was better to get one before the next batch rolled out.
2. Product rating. Yes, this is a mid 2012 line, but the fact that even in late 2015 Apple chooses to maintain the line manufacturing and rolling fresh stocks speaks volumes.
Be assured that this product will never outperform any product from the 2015 line for Macbook Pros. Here's why,
1. RAM clock-speed: 1600MHz DDR3 vs 1866MHz LPDDR3
2. CPU: 3rd Gen 2.5GHz dual-core vs 5th Gen 2.7GHz dual-core
3. Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 vs Intel HD Graphics 6100
Nothing very significant so far but the most important factor is,
4. HDD: 5400rpm SATA vs PCIe-based flash storage
But I'm pretty sure that it will do your job. WHY?
If your job demands very high or if you were not considering price and gauging a VFM quotient, you would not be reading this review or be interested in this product in the first place. So I can somehow assure that this device won't affect your productivity by any significant margin.
Here's what you should do sometime later if not immediately to ensure that this device is your companion for the next couple of years,
1. Upgrade to SSD. This will boost the boot-up. It will also avoid all those lags or freezes (incase you face any) during massive file operations or anything that is graphics intensive.
Note: SSDs implement flash storages instead of rotating disks of magnetic material, but the PCIe-based flash storages in the new Mac Air and Pro lines which are embedded onto the board will provide slightly higher benchmarks.
2. Increase your RAM. 16GB maybe overkill, be sure that you need it. Otherwise 8GB should do fluid enough.
Since this has a 3rd gen processor and the MacBooks have a unibody design, there maybe minor heating. If you actually have a problem with that, you should probably go with the 2015 line as they have 5th gen processors which produce significantly less heat due to their architecture. However the best for you would be to stick with products with proclaimed heat-sinks or corporate workhorses like Thinkpad W or T series.
I don't feel the need to write much about Apple or Mac OS because there's been a lot written already. And Mac against Windows is a personal call based on choices and requirements. But undoubtedly MacBooks are one of the best made devices. Prices are steep and would remain so because unlike the phone segment, there's hardly any stiff competition.
Adding a 512GB SSD and a 2 * 4GB RAM would be an addition of around 20 to 30k more, but I'm pretty satisfied when my 75 to 80k device offers me a 85-90% productivity compared to its 105k to 120k counterpart. And there's already a lot of discussion going on about eye-strain because of spending long hours on the highly pixelated retina displays.
My experience with buying this product from Amazon has been very pleasant and I would be recommend it to anyone wishing to buy this hoping that they experience the same.
5 star to amazon for best and genuine deal....:-)

I need to spend to resolve the issue approximately 22K. almost half of the amount of Laptop. Dont buy discount sale electronic items especially this laptops.

Great machine, got duped by seller.
by Anish Pal on 2015-10-29
Superb computer, very bad sales!
I purchased this laptop from Cloudtail and to my shock they sent me a second hand laptop! Yes! Second hand!
The box was opened, seal was cut, and there was a piece of paper inside that provided me with username and password! And worst of all, the 500gb hard disk was divided into 2 partitions: One with the name of some guy called Jihan and the other was not accessible(kept asking me for password everytime I tried to access it!!)
Plus, it already came with a preset master password!!!!!
Just a word of advice people: Please don't buy Apple products from online retailers! It's very easy to be duped! At least Amazon was quick enough to initiate next day return pickup and issue the refund immediately. I am again buying the same product but this time from imagine store in Bangalore. I have to shell out an extra 8-10k but I don't mind considering the fact that it is an Apple product and definitely worth the money. Plus they are offering me 4k worth of free accessories!! :)
Now that I have returned the MacBook pro I am pretty sure the seller will sell that same laptop to some other unsuspecting fellow and try to dupe him too!
Also note that many sellers purchase refurbished Apple laptops at a cheap price and then sell them online to make a profit. It's still original and you get warranty and all but it could be refurbished.
As for the device, it's an amazing piece of technology. Both in terms of software and hardware. It does heat up but not like a frying pan or like other brand laptops. But heating up is seen only during processor intensive activities(for eg when I design games using unity game engine). My friend had this laptop for quite a while and I have used it extensively and it's worth it! You can close your eyes and buy it without any worries. Just not from online retailers.
Hope this helps. Cheers!

works like a charm unless you're into particular profession
by Shritam on 2016-08-20
This did worked for me. However in an attempt to replace the HDD & RAM to 256G SSD & 16G respectively, I messed up one of my screws with strips. That's okay tho as it was my fault to not take absolute care while installing these (please research right driver set while opening this mac machine).
For the machine itself:
1. works like a charm unless you're into particular profession. Works great for students. For pro's, replace HDD with SSD & RAM with 8 GB, works with 16g's too.
2. resolution is okay. I can't expect this to be of retina quality but that does the job, see - cons for comments on screen tho!
3. smooth functions with backlight - that's always a positive from Apple products, they replaced the illuminated back Apple logo on recent ones. Not good move.
4. this particular mac gives power for hardware replacement, everything new doesn't have this comfort of upgrades, nor on the Mac Air ones. It's really suited for a long run. Even Apple Care doesn't upgrade on recent mac air's etc. The pro mid - 2012 is one of the reason it survives.
1. really glossy. If you're watching a movie on a tubelight area shade, your screen will reflect. Be warned about this one!
2. In India, casing for Mac is a must & we don't have much choices, but that's not about the machine, it's about the choices. I would say, go for a solid army casing for this. Everything else is rubber quality, tried & tested - it breaks at corners.
3. Bad that performance on macOS Sierra is bad. maybe it's just because now it's under Beta phases, I tested it but then reverted back to El Captain.
Sidenote: I'm a professional penetration tester & have a neat performance side of the machines i own. Take my words, go for it keeping the cons in mind.
