I have been using this macbook since past few days and this is what i think of it:
Firstly i got this mac at much cheaper price (80k) due to student discount thus that was a great deal. :)
1- Its Mac - its a whole different world when you go from windows to OS X and its much user friendly and easy to use once you learn.
2- Screen/Display : the best display i ever viewed .(in laptops)
3- Decent Sound quality (not one of the Best)
4- Keyboard : Its smooth and much soft, the backlight i love that.
5- SSD makes it boots at a great speed it takes less than 10 seconds to start.
6-Trackpad- As heard the trackpad apple gives in its mac is the best!
7- Battery- It provides a great battery life (6-10 hours based on your usage)
8- Aluminium Body also makes it lightweight, portable(handy) and gives a premium look.
1- No CD/DVD ROM(Writer)
3-Many overpriced applications and games in the App Store.
5-The present OS does not supports Chrome(as it drains battery very fast)
All and all if you are a Professional or Student its the best thing to decrease your workload and a great source of Entertainment whereas for hardcore gamers i don't recommend it (you should rather go for Dell Alienware). But for Sure it gives you a Premium feel and Apple services(which is great).
Hope my review helped you.
A work of art,a beast to fall in love with.
by Sunandan Datta on 2014-11-18
More than a fortnight after buying this hell of a machine, any adjective used to describe it aptly would fall short miserably.
The Apple Macbook Pro 13' with retina is indeed a joy to behold,a beauty to ogle at , and a beast to admire.
> Supreme build quality.
>Unibody Aluminium chassis that looks like no other.
> The hi-res Retina display with its true to life colours.
>Blazing fast, jumps to life the moment you open the lid.
>For a beast, has excellent battery life ; 6 hrs with wifi ,almost 9-10 without it.
>Very very portable at only 1.57 kg.
>Mac OSX Yosemite .. experience it to believe it.
>Most would say price..but its worth for the money.
> Not a gaming laptop per se.
Bought it from elsewhere at 78.5k , making it a super bargain!
Wonderful laptop Apple.

This is my first Mac, I'm using Windows and Linux for my development purpose, bought this Mac for iPhone app development, you see for development we need high end devices. So I choose this model and it never failed to meet my expectation, wonderful product.
It is great... insanely

Using Asus uptill now with Vista on it... this is a complete shift... Apple UI is amazing.. got the hang of it in few hours. I am basically a practicing architect and a professor... need to do lot of presentations... no more "i need five minutes" everything is ready... right there... so quick and fast...
Best laptop ever! Please do buy it if u can afford apple.
by Ayush Dubey on 2015-04-15
I did not buy this laptop from flipkart but from an authorized apple showroom. It was there for 94000 but after discount of 16.8% i got for 78990 only. i was thinking to buy the air 13inch model but this one is the best.
boots in less then 10 sec
2.6 ghz processor superfast.
8 gb ram which most laptops dont afford
aluminium built sleek body and no cheap plastic built
sleek keyboard keys give u the comfort of typing
wifi and bluetooth is superfast
display is retina so you can get the best and most sharpest graphics
good loudspeaker quality
finally it is easy to carry and light weight
difference b/w this one and other laptops is that they become slower after 1 year or so but apple is always the same superfast.
battery lasts till 9hours on full charge on normal use (wifi etc)
buy the 15 inch model if u think the screen is small
no cons till now.
I would purely recommend this to any student as i am also a student and any other professional who wants a very good price, good featured and long lasting laptop.
thank you for reading.
Must Buy If You Can Afford Apple
by Mayank on 2014-09-04
Display Quality Is Superb & Sound Quality As Well .. Gives Battery Backup Of Atleast 9Hrs (12hrs Max) & Best Thing Is Its Design ..Very Sleek ..High Quality Hardwares .. A Must Buy Product If You Want To Go With Apple!
The best product money can buy!
by Kumar Nitin on 2014-10-03
I've been using this model for close to a year now and I must say its simply beautiful.
Performance: Open Xcode, few tabs of Safari, and 10 other applications and even after all of these there is no lag. Only Linux machine can beat this beast.
Battery: Even after a year, its giving 6-7 hours. You can't expect even a new laptop to come somewhere close to this. But don't upgrade to Yosemite yet, as in my other Mac, there is significant reduction in battery life since I updated. Come on...its expected as its still a beta release.
Display: Simply mind blowing... I use font size 9 while coding.. I guess Ubuntu can not even render such small font. Hope you can image how good it is.
Build Quality: This thin aluminium light weighted machine is generations ahead of its close rival.
OS: Once you use Mac OS X for a couple of days, there's no going back to Windows or even Linux.

An amazing device with excellent display , superb sound quality , great UI . Very smooth and powerful , once u get the hang of it , it blows your brains off.
by gourav Panda on 2015-08-18
I have been using this laptop for over 9 months and i am really impressed by this.
It has a very good battery backup of almost 6 hours on full charge. Another important feature is that it charges really quick.
Screen quality is really awesome which is expected from retina display..
only con I see that safari doesn't support flash based websites which is why you need to download google chrome, which uses more battery.
Overall i am very satisfied with the ease of use.
Good product and prompt delivery
by Rajeshkumar R on 2015-04-02
Happy with the product and prompt delivery.
If you follow the full-page advertisements from Apple dealers such as Redington, most of them are not applicable to the online purchases. They do not mention it in the ads.
But, the EMI option Flipkart provides and the price was much better than the offers mentioned in those ads.

Better than my imagination
by Pankaj Kumar on 2014-11-18
I wont go in much details. I will just mention what a non apple user find different in this product
A. 10 hours battery life. May be more but not less.
B. Extremely sleek and lightweight. You will fall in love.
C. Boot time is around 5 sec. Sleep time is ZERO sec. So forget about powering on and off. Faster than mobiles.
D. Crystal clear display which does not strain eyes. Looks like a printed paper. Just too good.
E. Charging time is around 3 hours when laptop is in use.
F. No need of mouse. Trackpad is too good.
G. Keyboard is nicely organised. You can not hit wrong keys unless you are drunk ;)
Cons: New operating system for non apple users so you will get some time to get used to it. But it wont be a problem even in initial period. With time you will realise how ahead apple is from competitors.
Bought it from Kida retail at 81400 aprox. Keep looking for price variation for a week before you order it. Its price at time of posting it is 88000 from another seller. So time your purchase well to get it at lower price.
Update After one month of use:
Boot time is 10 sec approx( Not 5 sec what i wrote earlier)
Battery charging time is around 2 hours ( not 3 hours what I wrote earlier)
Apart from some issues which arise due to high security system of Apple, rest everything is good. I dont find much problem in understanding mac OS but 15 years of windows use definitely make windows an easier OS. Not because windows is better than mac but because we are used to windows ;)
Read this to clear ANY and EVERY doubt regarding Macs
by Amar A. on 2015-01-23
NOTE: If the full review is not visible, then click on the review title to open the full review in a new tab.
This is to address all the doubts and misconceptions amongst the windows ‘POWER USERS’ who are skeptical about shifting to mac. Read this review once and I bet you would end up with a deep urge to own this beast.
for the note - I am a computer science engineering student, making visual effects and graphic designs is my hobby and I may have used almost any power/resource hogging application you can ever think of.
NOW TO THE POINT-
1. Macs are overpriced.
Macs are not overpriced. You get what you pay for
(bear with the uncalled analogy here) if you go and buy a Ferrari, then you pay the hefty amount for the cost of expensive parts that make up the car, and a bit for brand name. MACS ARE THE FERRARIS OF THE LAPTOP WORLD.
Just pick one up in any apple store and you will agree to agree.
It is not difficult to say that no company today is able to produce what apple does. They just follow up.
2. Macs and windows are different/ you cannot use macs if your company uses windows.
There are softwares like crossover which run most of the famous windows software in Macs without the need to install windows separately.
For those who want to install windows separately, there is a pre installed application called bootcamp, which helps you dual boot the laptop with windows and mac. So you can run both mac and windows(one at a time) and the computer will be able to utilise all the resources in running the OS used at that time. Virtual machines are also an option but they do not use full resources of the laptop.
Apple is a hardware AND software company. And just the hardware is enough to mesmerise you.
and here hardware refers to the RETINA screen, slim and super sturdy build, best battery life and an out of the world trackpad, whose gestures can be controlled in any way you want using a software called better touch tool. So much possibilities, sky is the limit. And trust me, unless absolutely necessary, you yourself will not want to go back to windows after using OS X.
3. Macs cannot run games.
First of all, you never buy a mac to play games. But if you play occasionally, then it is possible.
Inbuilt iris graphics(1.5gb) are enough to play any games a casual gamer can think of(that does not mean that you can crank watchdogs at ultra), here casual means casual. Say all ps2 games. I'm rocking Tekken 5 through PCSX2 at 60 fps.
4. Macs have wifi problems
I have only experienced connection drops when my router was bad, and it was experienced in all devices I own, nothing special about macs. And there is nothing as WIFI COMPATIBILITY. wifi is wifi. any devices which can catch wifi signals can use wifi as efficiently as others. Also, it catches signals from routers far off from my house, which my nexus 7 can’t catch. So another thumbs up.
5. OS X user interface stutters
Yosemite(which comes pre installed into these devices now) is still in early stages of development and Apple rolls out new updates to fix any bugs that may come in the way of the users after installing new os. Just keep your os updated and it will run silky smooth. So any stutter/lag/anomaly you may experience will be due to software which is constantly evolving, there is no hardware problem or impotent CPU. Also, if you notice lag only on some specific(and less famous) websites this is because they are not(yet) optimised for retina display and this will only get better in future as apple is shifting all of it's devices to retina display.
6. Macs are less powerful for what they cost
You want an example of power? My current cpu usage is 8% and 92% of it is sitting idle while I am writing this review in pages(an application like MS word for OS X, and it is pre installed, and it is better than word, and it is free) with 3 tabs open in safari and two background applications running(f.lux and better touch tool). Windows, beat that!!
enough of misconceptions, now some DOUBT CLEARING FOR WINDOWS POWER USERS.
1. Are macs good for programming?
ans- They are the best. Because mac os is based on unix, programming in them is just like/even better than programming on a linux machine. Linux is also unix based. You can write applications for OS X, IOS, Windows and android in a mac, but only for the latter two in windows.
2. Are macs good for education?
ans- They are the best. Because there are pre installed applications for almost all the utilities a student would need. The ones I love are ibooks, itunes U(where you can join courses, specifically for undergraduates), ilife suite, ability to use 16 different desktops at a time and sliding through them like a breeze. There is an inbuilt dictionary, when you want to look for the meaning of any word anywhere, just do a three finger tap on the word and the meaning in dictionary, in thesaurus, in wikipedia pop up in a box. There is also an application called grapher, which plots 2D and/or 3D graphs of any equation you type in the box provided. There is Magsafe 2 port which detaches itself from the laptop if a sudden force is applied on the wire, but strongly sticks there if you try to pull gently. And trust me on this, you will step on your charging wire. Magsafe comes in handy for that.
3. Do macs last long?
ans- If the one you received did not show any signs of manufacturing defect initially, then rest assured that they are going to last as long as the hardware becomes obsolete in the long run, only unless you are an unlucky chap with a bad logic board. Treat them well and they will serve you a very very long time. Just buy apple care in the first year and that makes the warranty from one year to three years(it does not cover battery though)
TIPS TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR MAC -
1. Do not cover the ports and spaces made for fans and keyboard too(if possible). These are the places from where heat is dissipated and/or fresh air is drawn for cooling. And any hardware which overheats does not last long. That does not mean you cannot cover it, just do not cover the places stated above, that is, do not cover any hole you see.
2. Clean the dust off the keyboard and ports of fans frequently. That does not mean after every five minutes, but at least thrice a week. It does not take long, but assures longer life for your device.(I do it everyday before going to bed LOL)
3. Use a screen protector!! I know retina screens are gorgeous but they are ultimately going to get scratched(accidentally). Any and every screen protector WILL degrade the screen quality a bit. But it’s something I can live with, decide for yourself. If screen protector is not your thing, then do not touch or let anybody touch or press the screen and clean it regularly.
4. Silicon keyboard covers while using are a big no no. Apple exec told me this.
5. Charge the laptop for short durations. Do not drain the battery all the way down to 0 from 100. This is bad for your battery. Even though Apple execs do not agree with this, but this is a general rule of thumb for Lithium Ion batteries. Batteries have to die ultimately, but you can slow down the process by treating them right.Charge in small splurges and try to keep it above 50% when possible. Do not think that using the laptop while running on ac supply with full battery will reduce your charge cycles and postpone the battery death. You are preponing it by doing so. Just like exercise is important for humans, it is for your battery too.
6. Do not use google chrome, it consumes more battery(see in activity monitor)
Use safari instead, it runs better.
And after spending more than an hour writing this review and recollecting everything I think is helpful for new comers to the Apple family, I just want to say that take my word for it, YOU CANNOT GO WRONG WITH A MAC. And this price is too tempting. Just pick one up and if you do not like it you can return it before 10 days of delivery are up. As they say - ?ONCE YOU GO MAC, YOU NEVER GO BACK
About the screen protector - After using screen protector for a month, I decided to remove it because it added extra glare to the screen which significantly decreased the screen quality. First it felt like a trade off between safety and clarity, but then it didn't take long to realize that with a screen protector you are not enjoying what you paid big bucks for. So rather than protecting it, enjoy it to the fullest.
Also, initially, the retina display appeared to be straining my eyes a bit, but after a few weeks, the eyes adjusted to it and now it feels like reading on paper, without any strain.
A developers perspective
by Apple enthusiast! on 2015-02-11
Purchased it primarily for programming and now looks the perfect choice-
1. Was initially skeptical regarding 13 inch MBP (owing to screen estate), but retina display makes it a treat to work on (better than 15 inch due to maneuverability) .
2. xCode runs smoothly, 8 GB RAM with SSD does pack a powerful punch.
3. Running xCode simultaneously with android studio shows no lags.
4. 102 GB free space should more than suffice (if you are a music n movie buff, go in for an external drive).
5. Good battery life and boots up swiftly.
P.S- Product is genuine and comes with 1 year warranty.
Bang for your buck. Go for it!

The body creaks and ticks, serviced thrice and still terrible. Avoid.
by Suvam Mukherjee on 2015-12-07
This has been my worst experience with a laptop ever. I have been using computers for nearly 15 years now, and I have never had this much trouble with a computer.
Within a few weeks of arrival, the entire chassis started to creak and make tick noises. The display hinge creaked loudly. I took it to the Apple Service Centre who replaced the Display Unit and top case: after refusing to give me a replacement.
The creaking noises persisted, and it has been thrice that I had to take it to the service centre. The Apple Service Centre "engineers" are polite on the surface, but have absolutely no technical knowledge whatsoever. In the end, they made statements like "Apple hasn't designed the Macbook Pro to be used on the lap".
I took time off from my trip to Germany to take the machine to Apple in Munich. The technicians were far more knowledgable and suggested that the backplate be replaced. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to get it fixed there. Back in India, the Apple "engineers" said a backplate replacement isn't possible. I asked them to call up Munich and confirm their diagnosis, and they claimed that Apple was "international", but they cannot call any other Apple service centre.
Apple is cheating Indian customers by depriving them replacements of faulty products, which is quite routine abroad. And the creak in Retina Macbook Pro is very very common. Please refer to this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4050975?start=15&tstart=0
There are tons of other discussion forums with people citing the same problem.
A couple of years back, the Macbook had no equal. But now there are. Other laptops have caught up in terms of display and build quality, and Windows 10 is a great OS. So it makes no sense to invest a fortune in a laptop from Apple which creaks, comes with deplorable service and build quality.
The product managed to salvage 2 stars only because of the Mac OS X, which is definitely nice, but isn't the best out there anymore.
Read this Review if you want to buy this laptop for getting some serious work done!
by Varun Seth on 2014-12-26
Firstly, this is MGX72, and it has 8GB RAM, the earlier model (MBP Retina 2013 , aka ME864) had 4GB RAM, its very kind of Apple to introduce 8GB RAM in the lowest edition of rMBP. Also, the core-i5 processor is dual core (not quad core)
Its been a week since I got this laptop from amazon, and this is a good time to review before I forget things!
======= Read this part if you have little to no experience with PC's : =======
1) This is one of the best macbooks ever made, very light, plenty of battery, I can take this anywhere with me, and keep reading articles, non stop!
2) 8GB ram+128GB PCI storage is enough for any video-editing/app-development job!
3) this macbook is silent!! the frequency of noise is distributed across the wings, so the sound made by fans is always very dim!
4) Retina resolution makes everything amazingly sharp, and the IPS display has vibrant colors, this gives a strong motivation to study on the macbook.
5) Design is incredible, for example the lid can be opened with 1 hand, the exhaust method is innovative, and there is no harm on putting this laptop on bed!
6) This macbook is extremely fast and snappy, the moment I open its lid, its ready to get the work done. All softwares are fasts and snappy (thanks to the flash storage)!
7) Keyboard is backlit, and its brightness can be adjusted!
8) The touchpad is amazing, reinforced with swipe gestures etc, the scrolling is always very accurate, no mouse needed!
======= Read this part if you have some experience with PC's =======
1) The brightness takes a template setting, and automatically adjusts around the template. If you set high brightness and enter into a dark room, the the screen will get dim, because it understands you!
2) The "maximize" and "fullscreen" buttons have been merged on Yosemite, (well "maximize" button was unusable anyways), this means that now default button is full screen, and if you hover with shift, the "maximize" button appears.
1) Yosemite has some serious wifi issues, wifi keeps dropping every now and then, irrespective of wifi router!
2) Yosemite has lots of useless animations, cannot disable them at all, no terminal hacks work in yosemite,
.....(a) it takes 1 full second to go from windowed mode to fullscreen, it ruins movie experience on vlc media player!
.....(b) the notification panel always stutters while it tries to smoothly slide from the right, same happens on scrolling pdf files in "preview" app in fullscreen mode, it stutters! Apple would rather stutter (read:die) scrolling smoothly, than making jump scrolls (opposite of windows)
.....(c) In youtube player on chrome, if you press "fullscreen", the screen smoothly becomes black, and then "magically" shows the flash player in fullscreen mode, taking 1 full second. Same goes for exiting. Cant disable it!
=============== Read this if you are a power user from windows=================
Prepare to brick your brain!
1) Apple is the most arrogant company in OS market, both windows and linux like ubuntu/mint in their attempt to copy features from rivals have become usable for large portion of population, but not apple! As follows:
.....(a) Keyboard shortcuts are strange: On a browser, Command+n, means new tab, Command+w means close tab, but Command+tab means switch between unminimized-windows, prepare to break your habits! And, did I mention that command button is on left of spacebar, and Command+c is for copy, Command+v is for paste? Prepare to break those fingers too!
.....(b) Keyboard is arrogantly designed:, apple has to put "FN" button on left of "CTRL", now, even if I remap Ctrl with Command, I still cant use my pinky finger to copy/paste text!
.....(c) Unintuitive behaviour: Select a file and press "delete" button wont delete that file, press "enter" button wont open that file, pressing "command+x" wont cut that file! :D, and there is no direct way to "shift+delete" that file! (in gui, apple only allows emptying the whole trash at once, not individual files)
.....(d) File-> right click, there is no "rename" option, no "cut" option, Folder ->Right click , no "new file" option. Is there a "start command window here" option?, umm..not that either! And for ppl coming from windows xp, there is no refresh button either, how will you diagnose your internet now!! (just kidding, there is a "clean up" option, it arranges the icons, unlike windows, which keeps the icons organized automatically!)
.....(e) Bad window management: Once a windows is minimized, it can only be opened by pointing to its icon on the dock and clicking it. Command+tab, (aka Alt+tab from MS windows), activates that application, but keeps it minimized anyways!
.....(f) Another Command+tab issue, the list is iconized, with only 1 icon per application, just like dock, so, neither does Command+tab tell that another window of this application is open, nor the dock tells. Later you will find that google hangout screen-sharing had been open for hours without your knowledge! :D
.....(g) You CANNOT create apple id without paying Rs 60, no matter how hard you try to skip the "add payment options" page. You will end up telling your credit card details, and then apple will make $1 transaction without your knowledge!! Otherwise, you can not use the "app store"
.....(h) This Macbook Pro cannot charge my nexus 7 tablet. Read the details here: http://www.quora.com/Why-doesnt-my-Nexus-7-charge-while-plugged-into-my-MacBook-Pro
.....(g) Screen sharing is a thing of the past now, neither skype nor google hangout can help, because once the screen sharing starts, it only broadcasts that initial desktop, if you are in a fulscreen browser with hangout, the other person wont be able to see when you work on the finder window which is opened fullscreen too. this is the annoying cost of 4-finger swipe gestures.
.....(h) The default email client in yosemite is Apple mail, it has a new "flag" system, and no matter what I do, it automatically flags a emails, I can't disable it. And Apple mail has no respect for "stars" from gmail. Now, instead of starring good mails, you should start flagging the bad ones. So much for positive thinking!
.....(i) (This is in contrast from non-retina macbook pro ) The physical power button is missing, instead the eject key located at top right corner of keyboard is now power button, (typically forward delete button is located there). If you press it (by mistake), nothing happens, it only reacts on long pressing (thank god), but I think a more powerful tactile feedback is required for the all mighty "power" button. In earlier macbooks, the "eject" button could be remapped to "forward delete" key, just like windows laptops. but now this key is hardware connected, and won't remap!.
2) Even if apple allows installing windows, it is a windows surrounded by mac, I am not talking virtualization, but when you install windows from bootcamp there will be major issues:
....(a) You can't use all 128GB for windows, na na, mac won't allow that, the max you can get is 80GB.
....(b) In my case, windows was heating a lot even while sitting idle, this means more power consumption and less battery life, at 100% charged battery, 0% load from my side, it predicted 4 hours of battery remaining, (after installing important mac drives!)
....(c) god forbid if your windows ever crashed, you won't be able to repair it from boot, apple doesnt allow booting like that!!
3) Many proprietary windows software won't run, especially MS Excel,
...... (a) If you run Excel 2011 (for Mac), it thinks it is running at 1280x800, and the text is all pixelated. Also, in windows (ALT+ Enter) used to give line break inside excel cells, it doesn't work here! no key combination what-so-ever is capable of creating the line break in MS Excel 2011 for Mac
.......(b) If you run Excel inside wine, it runs fine, except the resolution is blurry, as if you are on 1280x800 monitor.
.......(c) Mac has its own software called "numbers", which did try to open my excel file, but replaced formulas with values wherever it had problem (basically everywhere!), making my excel file completely useless for me.
I did not try anymore "excel", if you find something that works, lemme know
=================== Read this if you are from Linux ===============
"apt-get install" doesn't work, not even with sudo. You think you can live with that?
Also, pressing Ctrl+h wont unhide hidden files, good luck locating them! Even if you do unhide hidden files, double clicking their icon ain't gonna open 'em !!
APPLE - deliver what they say
by Apoorva Gupta on 2015-06-06
Just as awesome as it sounds, retina display is definitely worth buying, never lags in speed or processing, mac osx automatically goes to sleep mode if you move the macbook when its on (amazing feature)
- good for progrmmers
- running 2 VMs simultaneously is definetly not an issue any more
- energy efficient
- automatic brightness adjustment
- approx 11-12 hrs battery backup if u work on apple apps in other apps it reduces to 9-10 hrs (in general as u will be taking rest, i charge it at alternate days)
Go for it.
I bought it @78,995, so wait for the price to come down.
very good battery backup

MacBook can't go wrong. I am not going to review the product, you have experts who have already reviewed this on different forums. As a first timer on Mac, I am really happy and enjoying every moment discovering this baby (after using windows for 2 decades, trust me IT IS a discovery).
I've been using this for editing using Final Cut Pro, its super smooth.
The items was packed appropriately and was delivered promptly.
by Bharat Gandhi on 2015-07-30
A great laptop at the best price. It's not only because of the name Apple, but the built quality and the performance too. It's compatible with almost every software and has the best battery life. I never shut down my mac instead just put the lid down, hence it is always ready. It doesn't get warm at all.
by ashu on 2015-01-27
