Ordered on 6/9/2013 at 11:45. Got it delivered on the 8/9/2013 at 5:00 pm in Mumbai.
(Vendor is in Mumbai). I have heard Banglore customers get it the same day.
Since then (today is 11/09/2013 9:30am) it refuses to install Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Ubuntu. 9th was a Ganesh Chathurti holiday, still could speak to some of their support guys on toll free number. But most of them are terribly below standard (even Indian standard). One of the guys got the issue and had a few advices but the phone got disconnected. Gave subsequent calls but no other support guy had a sensible approach.
Error message: "Windows cannot install to this disk. Please ensure that disk's controller is enabled".
Tried all possible controller and BIOS fixes. Finally appears to be BIOS issue. Mine C850 came with 6.30 while the downloadable version is 6.70. Cannot flash the BIOS since Toshiba relies on Windows for updating its BIOS, it does not recommend updating BIOS through DOS, ridiculous but true. Flashing BIOS through USB on my own is not what I find wise at this point of time. Yesterday (10/09/2013) most of the Toshiba service centres were closed due to Ganesh Chathurti (even though no other office is closed). Redington (one of the support offices) was functional and spoke to them and their engineer is likely to visit today.
But I am myself taking it to them before 11:00 am (after which all the support engineers are on field and supposedly there is no in-house engineer at the support centre, ridiculous but true).
So far it has been a very bad experience. I should leave now before it gets late.
Will update the review once i return from their service centre.
Flipkart Rating : ***
Frenz, My HDD was faulty and got it replaced. Installed windows 7 and things are working fine. No issues with Drivers etc..
Now, my experience about Service:
I reached Redington, Mumbai at 11:30am and all engineers were just about to leave for filed assignments. Was catered by a engineer. He was a bit less aware about the product. I took a demanding stand and insisted to accompany him inside his workplace instead of sitting in the waiting area, which was let down by the seniors, but then the engineer was directed to bring the product outside instead and diagnosed in front of me.
There were two counters one for Fujitsu (was misspelled by them as "Fujistu").
The senior engineer later came out and himself daignosed the product and on seeing the late response, concluded that it was HDD fault and asked his junior to replace it.
I got the HDD, but be cautioned that I was very very very very lucky to get it right then and there itself, generally for parts people have to wait for at least 7 days (input by engineers themselves). It took 45 minutes for me to leave the service center during which i could get the engineers' review.
As per the engineers only select models of Toshiba are good and this model has problems in Lid hinges and keyboard. While i waited I saw three customers arriving, one was the white variant of C850. It had loose keyboard keys and I could get an idea as to what should be avoided while using this model.
Fujitsu is a good brand as per the engineers it seldom faces any problem. But once it faces a problem the part takes time to reach from Germany/Japan. Second thing, till Fujitsu is under warranty, its good, that means if some goes bad in a Fujitsu laptop, it gets replaced and we get a warranty on the replaced part. But once the warranty expires and suppose motherboard goes bad the thing will be replaced with original mother board but then there will be no warranty on that replaced motherboard.
This was straight from the Engineer's mouth.
My take on this product so far is that I was unlucky, or such problems is not evident on a new Toshiba.
But a point to be noted here is that, while returning I forgot my adapter/charger over there and realized it only after I reached home. I got a call from them proactively and then they were willing to get it delivered at my place the next day. But then later I insisted and they agreed to sent it along an engineer who had a call to attend close to my area. So i got it the very same day within 3 hours.
So product service on phone is pathetic beyond doubt, however over the counter at the service center, it is not that bad however we have to be self-aware and demanding while visiting the service center.
Thanks if you have reached so far reading ;).
All the best for your search.

i bought this about a year back after being recommended by the dealer for its excellent configuration and low value.
soon after one month of buying screen developed flickering problem. it took one month to get it repaired with screen and hard disk changed.
after 11 month of buying it just refused to start. it took about 3 weeks to get repaired and motherboard was changed.
in a year time it was down for about 2 months, although it get repaired under warranty but at the expense of your lost work hours and peace of mind.
for me it is just NO GOOD

Made the purchase on 25-12-13 and got it delivered on 28th. Was worried as the outer packaging(flipkart) was not intact when I received the product, also the original packaging(toshiba) was tampered with. However, there seems to be no issues with the laptop itself. Looks ok to me. Have just installed ubuntu 13.04. Had trouble with getting the sound card to work, but finally it did. Toshiba doesn't provide any help with regard to drivers for ubuntu.
I find arrow keys to be very small, it is a hindrance. There are 4 levels of Brightness which I find it insufficient.(In my previous dell laptop I have 8 levels). There are no external buttons except power on/off switch. I would have liked a switch for wireless lan, volume increase/decrease, mute etc. There is only one usb 3 port. at least 2 would have been nice. apart from this haven't tried anything else. Will update if I find any issues.
Overall for the price, it is a good product.
Flipkart I would rate 8/10 as it has satisfied most of my orders. (I had cancelled an earlier order for a different laptop because of pricing)
toshiba 5/10, no support for linux drivers, while trying to register the product for onsite warranty, the mail bounced back saying their mailbox is full. Though they have an offer running till 1st jan, where one can get 2 year additional warranty and 1 year accidental damage protection and symantec internet security for one year also for 999/- one can get photon dongle. If any one has any queries do let me know.
Bought this on flipkart for 29k and also 4gb ram for 2300/- got 10% discount.

built is so cheap that it's arse little broken when I noticed it the first day and then my arse was little lazy to complain and ship and it back and all. It got worse and now it's flat broken arse. I kind plastered it today with duct tape and using an external keyboard, mouse and monitor. It's altogether another story about monitor. Flipkart offered a 17inch monitor for less 4k once and I got one, it worked well for few days then I noticed two vertical dead lines, nah... bright lines I should call em. It's still under warranty, I am like ' hell there are still some 1364 working lines. let's live with it." I just remembered.... I found the hdd in this laptop to be faulty in a month and I called tech support and then requested for a replacement. I always encounter some awesome people in tech support calls that I had to politely say 'thank you for your kind assistance' and I shattered the hdd and felt happy :) I bought an intel SSD though as replacement, which works really amazing. I wish I could show you the current band-aided laptop under the desk, only good thing is i5 with my 6GB upgraded RAM, it never troubled performance wise. Still I wish someone would raise physical integrity standards or something like that.

Bought from dealer in Nehru Place. It's good but isn't fast enough even to provide an average experience. I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 4 bit. I guess I need to upgrade the RAM to 4 GB after all. Make sure you buy 1600 Mhz DDR3 as that's what's shippd with the sysrem and any other type of RAM will cause compatibility issues.
I have previously worked with HP and Dell Desktop support.
PS: Build quality is really good. Overall, great value for money but if you want decent performance, buy a RAM with it.

I have bought Toshiba Satellite C850-X0011 Laptop @29,000/- and its very nice. Its a good product within our budget and in configuration is also good. If it comes with Pre-Installed OS, then it will me too better. Ofcourse we can also install OS but still I felt like that.

I bought this one for 28k from Homeshop. I did a vast research for budget laptops with good configuration. Mostly i found i3 3rd gen. Only this laptop had i5 3rd gen. Anyhow we can expand RAM and i feel 500 GB is more than enough if we have external HDD.
Also pls some one pls let me know which DDR3 RAM will be matching for this laptop.

I have purchased in a good deal and for that price this laptop is like a steal. I chose to go for no OS as i dont like win 8. so bought and put win 7 and its amazing. i have an unused RAM slot which i will upgrade to additional 2 GB which makes it a 4 Gigs lap with all features including my fav OS. What else you need. I am loving it.
