Ambrane A-7 - Expert Reviews

Introduction

Ambrane is not a known name for most of the consumers and looking at their advertising strategy, things are not expected to change any time soon. The brand is in all probability not looking to target the brand conscious market since they are not wasting any time building on their brand value but tier2 firm like Ambrane is sure to appeal to the pocket conscious segment who are willing to won a tablet even if it does not support a big name. Ambrane A-7 is an Android Ice cream sandwich running smartphone that has a 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 800 by 480 pixels. The display is unfortunately not reflection free, a trait that gets exaggerated even more outdoors but in totality, Ambrane A-7 is has a decent display. The tablet has a length of 198mm, a breadth of 127mm and a thickness of 16.8mm. The look of the device is nothing out of the ordinary but worthy of being called chic. Bolstered by the 1.5GHz processor, the tablet has a 512MB RAM, which is a little less than what one would call as ideal for playing high end games or multitasking. The internal memory of the tablet is 4GB which is more or less the same as we have seen in the past from devices of this class and should the storage space run our which it most likely would, there is always the microSD card slot to dig you out of the problem. This means that memory can now be extended up to 32GB which should be more than enough for keeping a bigger collection of data.

Primary camera is VGA so not too many pixels to rely on as far as camera department is concerned. More or less, the camera should help in web calls and video chats which do not require too much strength as suppose to the images capturing ability. Internet can be accessed through various ways including a 3G support via external dongle or by accessing the built in WAP browser or even the Wi-Fi facility for using the outside web connections. Ambrane A-7 runs on the standard lithium-ion battery of 3,000mAh which is responsible for the 72 hour standby time that would be pleasing for most although the multimedia usage of the device is not that long. The tablet is available in the single color of black and comes with a speaker, video display card and a sound card. Along with the tablet the user also gets Data Cable, Tablet, Headset, Charger, Quick Start Guide.

Operating system and UI

Ambrane A-7 has a 7-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen that does well to provide satisfactory images with nice color saturation. The display however is reflection prone so not every angle is comfortable for use. The resolution offered by the display is 800 by 480 pixels as the screen is protected by the multi-touch glass technology.

Other Features

Ambrane A-7 offers support for a music player running in the formats of AWB, MP2, M4A, WAV, RA, MP3, WMA, AAC, AMR. Music can be enjoyed through the loudspeakers or through the earphones that can be attached to the device with the help of a 3.5mm jack. Video player on the other hand is compatible with the formats of AVI, RV, MPEG-1, MP4, 3GP, WMV, H263, H264, MPEG-4. There is no FM radio like expected from most tablets.

Camera

Ambrane A-7 is weak in terms of camera department with a VGA primary camera working at a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels. Video calls are easy and convenient to make but if the user thinks on the line of snapping images for wall hanging purpose, there is bound to be disappointment.

Connectivity

Ambrane A-7 is compatible with the 3G external dongle and along with this, Wi-Fi and WAP browser are also ways to visit the desired web sites like Facebook or YouTube along with downloading data like songs, games, images and videos.

Memory

Ambrane A-7 provides 4GB space for the user to keep his or her private collection of data including songs, games, images and videos. Another 32GB can be added using the microSD card slot but not without shedding a few extra bucks. RAM is 512MB which can safely be termed as mediocre.

Other Features

Ambrane A-7 is a average device for playing games of high stature but the ones that require low specs are easy to run with a 512MB RAM. But applications can be downloaded on the users fancies and whims with Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system providing a huge pool of resources.

Battery

The 3,000mAh standard lithium-ion battery backs the Ambrane A-7 and hence delivers a 72 hour standby times, pretty decent by tablet standards. However the power backup is not good enough for running multimedia applications for too long which may defeat the purpose of portability with the user requiring a charging point sooner than desired.

Connectivity

Ambrane A-7 has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB port along with GPRS and EDGE. So wireless access to web, data exchange with other devices or navigation to the desired location is possible through the above mentioned means.

Other Features

Ambrane A-7 when compared to Micromax Funbook has an identical 7 inch display while the resolution too is the same. But Micromax Funbook has a better pixel density but not by much. RAM, internal memory and the microSD card slot potential are all same for the two tablets with 512MB, 4GB and 32GB respectively. Ambrane A-7 has a 3,000mAh standard lithium-ion battery as compared to 2,800mAh standard lithium-ion battery provided by Micromax Funbook. Both the tablets run on the Android Ice Cream sandwich operating system but Ambrane A-7 has a 1.5GHz processor and Micromax Funbook has a 1.22GHz processor.

Other Features

February, 2011: Ambrane A-7 is a low-end tablet available at an economical price. The tablet has a 1.5GHz processor and runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. Camera is just VGA while battery strength is 3,000mAh. The device also features a microSD card slot that adds cushion to the 4GB internal memory.
