Blackberry Curve 9360 Purple - Expert Reviews

Blackberry Curve 9360 brings a whole new BBM experience at your end so that you never miss out any fun with your BBM friends. BlackBerry is the best thing that has been gifted by Research In Motion that allows you to have your own BlackBerry world around you. With BBM connected applications, you can invite your friends to download that application and once you start chatting you will always feel reluctant in leaving your chat. Apart from the BBM world you have access to other social applications like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut and more so you can easily stay connected with your non-BBM group. You can even check your mail accounts or IMs instantly without wasting much time on opening your account. You can easily check your mail with a single click and can also send attachments via e-mail using your BlackBerry handset. The device has candy bar form factor and comes packed in a size of 109mm x 60mm x 11mm, which is easy to hold in hands for long time. The mere weight of 99 grams make it on of the lightest smartphones available in the market.

The front of the device has the non sensitive screen with a very responsive optical trackpad and the nicely built QWERTY keyboard. The optical trackpad is surrounded by a thin square chrome bezel to highlight it. This trackpad has four keys, two on each side, where two keys are the call buttons for receiving and ending a call and the other two are for BBM world and Back. The keys of the QWERTY keypad are oval in shape and are very aptly spaced to avoid any accidental press. The mouthpiece is placed inside the keypad at the bottom. The top of the screen has an earpiece with status LED and BlackBerry logo. The left side holds a microUSB port only for syncing and charging your BlackBerry Curve 9360 via your PC or Laptop. The right part of the device has thin rubbery convenience key and volume rocker. By default the convenience key is set to serve as a shutter key and launch the camera. There is a pause/mute button in between the volume keys that you can use while listening to music player. You can also skip the songs by a long press of the volume keys. The lock key and the 3.5mm universal headphone jack are placed on the top for convenient usage.

The bottom has nothing to look for and is left bare as the mouthpiece is inside the keyboard. Coming to the back cover, you will find a very powerful 5 megapixels fixed focus camera lens accompanied by the single LED flash. The lens is well recessed so you cannot scratch it unless you try really hard. Removing the rear panel reveals the strong battery, a microSIM card slot and a microSD card slot. The good news here is that the memory card is hot swappable so you do not have to take out the battery in order to insert or remove the memory card. There are no sensors in the phone but that is perfectly fine as it is not a touch screen phone so this omission is bearable. You can utilize the facility of Near Field Communication (NFC), which is a short-range high frequency wireless communication technology that permits the transmission of data between two compatible devices over about a distance of ten centimeters.

Operating system and UI

Blackberry Curve 9360 comes with a 2.44 inches wide TFT display that shows up a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels with 16M of color depth that makes the screen comes alive with realistic view from each angle. The touch sensitive optical trackpad is very responsive and you can make your task easier than ever before with this optical trackpad. This smartphone is powered by 800MHz processor that makes the processing of applications really fast and brings results within micro seconds. Though the UI icons are very much same to the previous handsets but you will see a slight change in them as the UI icons have been updated to mimic the PlayBook. The status area of the homescreen has quick toggles for the cellular, Wi-Fi, NFC and Bluetooth radios.
