HTC Desire X - Expert Reviews

HTC is one of the top brands in the industry and words like elegance and class are constantly associated with it. Although, it has not been able to surpass Samsung when it comes to sales but has not hurt the credentials of the firm as a smartphone manufacturer by any yardstick. HTC One X and HTC One X plus have received rave reviews from both critics and audience alike. But that was not enough for the company to earn the top position. The company hopes for better results in the mid carter segment with HTC Desire X. HTC Desire X has a super LCD capacitive touchscreen of 4 inches with a pixel density of 233ppi and a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. With HTC Sense UI version 4, the user gets a fine interface technology to communicate with the device that delivers smoother swiping ability and faster responsiveness.

The smartphone has a length of 118.5mm, breadth of 62.3mm, and thickness of 9.3mm. At 114 grams, HTC Desire X is light and easy to carry around. It is available in the colors of White/Black and Prussian Blue. With a good RAM capacity of 768MB, HTC Desire X supplements its dual core processor that operates at 1GHz. Not the whole of 4GB internal memory can be utilized for storing data, for most of it goes for the use of application installation. With data like songs, games, images, and videos, the internal memory is bound to run out, therefore, a microSD card slot of 32GB potential has to be brought into play, which can maximize the storage output for the user. Music player, FM radio with RDS, and video player would contribute to the entertainment side of the gadget.

No secondary camera with HTC Desire X is available – a supposed turn off for some but the primary camera of 5 megapixels does justice to its pixel strength with images being produced at a resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels. An LED flash always helps when the background is unaccommodating to light. Videos can be shot at a resolution of 480 pixels. HTC Desire X runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, which is upgradable to the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 software platform. Apart from features like USB port, Bluetooth, GPRS, and EDGE, the device provides Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hot spot, and DLNA too, thus adding to the tethering capabilities of the device. The 1650mAh standard lithium-ion battery provides plenty of usage time with the device including a talk time of up to 20 hours in 2G and up to 10 hours in 3G. The standby time is up to 833 hours in 2G and up to 750 hours in 3G.

Operating system and UI

HTC Desire X bids a 4-inch super LCD TFT capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels along with 16 million colors that give a nice charming look to its display quality. With a pixel density of 233ppi, the user gets true rich colors for the screen, which is easy to interact with via HTC sense UI technology.

Other Features

HTC Desire X delivers loads of musical tracks with resounding quality via the HTC beats technology that the device offers. The earphone can be connected to the device through a 3.5mm jack that features good bass quality and treble volume. Video clarity is very good as the user can watch them with minimum reflection even from the side angles. RDS feature with FM radio is a great way to record songs being played on the popular radio stations.

HTC Desire X sports a 5 megapixels primary camera that does well in outdoor conditions with good light clicking images at a healthy resolution of 2592 by 1944 pixels. Auto focus and LED flash are some better features that the user can exploit to his or her advantage. Video resolution is of 480 pixels, which is not that high. No secondary camera is provided by the smartphone.

HTC Desire X generates a downloading speed of up to 7.2Mbps along with an uploading speed of up to 5.76Mbps with the help of Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, and HTML browser. The user also gets DLNA and Wi-Fi hot spot that can make or access a new individual server for other devices to connect with the web or connect itself to the web respectively.

HTC Desire X boasts of a microSD card slot that has 32GB of external memory augmentation ability, which would play a vital role since the 4GB internal memory has a good chance of exhausting itself. The chances are high because the device for the sake of application installation would use some of the memory up. RAM is quite satisfactory with 768MB.

Other Features

HTC Desire X can be used to download some of the best Android games and applications, for the device is now compatible with Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 operating system. Google Play Store is the means to enter the Android world and download lots of games and apps. The presence of 768MB of RAM is not the ideal support for playing games but is well within the acceptable range.

HTC Desire X is loaded with a 1650mAh standard lithium-ion battery that yields a talk time of up to 20 hours in 2G and up to 10 hours in 3G. The standby time offered in 2G is up to 833 hours while it is up to 750 hours in 3G.

HTC Desire X has loads to explore in the connectivity department with USB port, Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, and Wi-Fi being its elements. HTC Desire X has tethering features as well like Wi-Fi hot spot and DLNA. HTC Desire X has four bandwidths for 2G network with 850, 900, 1800 and 2100MHz while for 3G network, it is 900 and 2100MHz.

Other Features

HTC Desire X when compared to Samsung Galaxy S2 has a smaller screen with 4 inches for the former and 4.3 inches for the latter. HTC Desire X has a 4GB internal memory while Samsung Galaxy S2 has a 16GB internal memory. RAM is of 768MB with HTC Desire X while the same is 1GB with Samsung Galaxy S2. HTC Desire X lacks a secondary camera but the Samsung Galaxy S2 provides a 2 megapixels front shutter. Primary camera of Samsung Galaxy S2 is of 8 megapixels, which is much more powerful than HTC Desire X's 5 megapixels primary camera. HTC Desire X runs on Android Ice Cream sandwich operating system while Samsung Galaxy S2 runs on Android Gingerbread software platform. Both the smartphones are powered by 1650mAh standard lithium-ion battery but HTC Desire X delivers a slightly longer talk time and standby time.

Other Features

August 2012: HTC Desire X is another chic looking smartphone from the Taiwanese firm HTC that garners a 4-inch display and runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich platform. With the upcoming gadgets from rival firms in the same specific segment, HTC Desire X has received a Jelly Bean update, which would certainly please the existing as well as potential users. The absence of a secondary camera would certainly create doubts in the user's mind before buying this gadget. The highlights are as follows:

*        4-inch Super LCD capacitive touchscreen

*        Android Ice Cream Sandwich operating system upgradable to Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 operating system

*        5 megapixels primary camera

*        1650mAh standard lithium-ion battery

*        MicroSD card slot up to 32GB
