HTC Desire Z - Expert Reviews

HTC Desire Z is the Android droid developed by the Taiwanese manufacturer of smartphones and tablets, HTC, that bears resemblance to HTC Desire and HTC Desire HD in terms of specifications but is quite different in design as it does not has any mechanical buttons like HTC Desire features. This phone is the last device by Google that features a slider QWERTY keyboard and is manufactured by HTC. The predecessor of HTC Desire Z, that is, HTC Desire was the teacher for the other droids available and now with its successor, the company is going to achieve new heights in terms of success. This droid will provide you a dedicated QWERTY keypad with super responsive touch screen and a virtual QWERTY keyboard also. The instant maps are pre-installed in the device so that its users will never get lost, wherever they go. It is familiar to everyone that Android smartphones are very easy to use and with HTC Sense UI on top, the usage becomes more enjoyable and simpler. There is an optical trackpad below the touch sensitive touch screen that makes the navigation easy and fast. The brings online experience at the doorsteps of the users so that they can remain attached with their HTC Desire Z all the time. If your phone is on silent and you have lost it somewhere in the house, then you can simply locate the device using the application. The device supports DLNA that allows its users to stream their pictures, videos and music from their phone to their home theater system, so that you can watch your best captured moments with your family members on a bigger screen. In terms of its body build, HTC Desire Z provides a reliable feel to hands. Most of the chassis of this droid are made up of metal and gives a soft brushed feel to hands. It comes packed in a size of 119mm x 60.4mm x 14.16mm, which is though not a standard size but still the device is easy to hold with a weight of 180 grams. The heavy weight is due to the metal body and battery. The front frame and the battery cover has metal touch whereas the remaining parts has rubber chassis providing a pleasant touch to HTC Desire Z. the body of the phone is not very much prone to fingerprints and the small smudges are hardly noticeable, giving credit to the light color finish of the handset. When compared to its predecessor, HTC Desire, HTC Desire Z is more legible to sunlight, although not completely. The device has a slider form factor where the front has fully touch capacitive screen, and there is a QWERTY keyboard when the upper part is slided towards right. The keys on the physical keypad are very aptly spaced and are very smooth and easy to use.

The front screen is protected by a thick metal bezel form sideways that also provides a premium look to the phone. Above the screen, there is an ear-piece grill along with G-Sensor, Digital Compass Sensor, Proximity Sensor and Ambient light sensor. Since secondary camera is missing from the front part so the users cannot have live video chats with family and friends. The G-Sensor is usually an accelerometer that measures the forces that act on the device during changes in velocity. The Digital Compass sensor detects the directional orientation of the phone with respect to the Earth's magnetic field so that the users are aware that which direction is north and which one is south. Ambient Light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the screen as per the light conditions, so that the screen is always visible even when the sun is over the head. Proximity sensor emits out an electromagnetic field or electromagnetic radiations that detects the nearby POIs, buildings, towers, cafes, etc. without having actual contact with them. Below the touch sensitive screen are four capacitive Android buttons for Home, Menu, back and Search. There is an optical trackpad also, underneath these capacitive buttons, that makes the work fast and easy. The sliding QWERTY keypad can be converted into a lift and pivot position where the upper half gets raised on the Z-hinge before softly dropping into place. The left side of HTC Desire Z hosts a long and thin capsule shaped volume rocker along with a microUSB port. The right side has the dedicated button for camera and there is also a battery cover latch beside it. The top is the house for 3.5mm universal headphone jack that also acts as an A/V connector. The right side of this jack has power/lock key whereas the bottom of the device contains a mouthpiece only. The back cover of HTC Desire Z holds the Wi-Fi antenna that loses its connection when the back panel is removed. The rear cover hosts a 5 megapixels camera with LED flash and a tiny loudspeaker grill. Under the battery cover you will find the power packed battery with slots for microSD card and microSIM card.
