HTC One Max - Silver - Expert Reviews

Introduction

Technological advancements have become difficult to comprehend and so are our needs. It was earlier preferable to have a smaller cell phone, which was more portable and easier to carry around, but now, with the rise of the new "phablet" category, the exact opposite phenomenon is taking place. The bigger the better is the mantra that all the smartphone manufacturing brands are holding these days something that is evident from the size of phablets we have been seeing these days. But, one does wonder where that puts the category of tablets in perspective, since a tablet starts from 7 inches. In any case, the direction of devices is evident and HTC is certainly moving towards the same path. HTC's biggest device in terms of size has been the HTC butterfly with a 5-inch screen that does not even classify as a phablet. Therefore, HTC is maximizing its gadget with HTC One Max thus producing its very first phablet ever.

The device comes with a towering 5.9-inch super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen with a lofty pixel density of 373ppi and a formidable resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels. Along with 16 million colors, HTC One Max is further backed by HTC Sense 5.5 technology. The display also has the fingerprint sensor that makes the gadget faster in terms of interfacing. The phablet comes with a length of 164.5mm, breadth of 82.5mm and thickness of 10.3mm, and weighs 217 grams. The phablet runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.3 operating system and is available in the single color of Silver. The processor is 1.7GHz quad core while the RAM under the hood is 2GB. We would have loved to see the firm take its memory a notch higher up to 3GB akin to a lot of other devices but even with 2GB, one cannot complain much. The camera of 4 megapixels produces images that are far superior to any we have seen from a HTC gadget.

Apart from LED flash, the user also gets the option of simultaneous high definition recording and image recording option. Videos can be shot at 1080 pixels to be precise whereas the 2.1 megapixels secondary camera also helps in terms of video calling over the web. The gadget would be available with either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory depending upon the user's choice. A microSD card slot would be provided that would make the external memory go as high as 64GB, which would be in addition to 50GB Google drive space. For internet, we have just about everything including Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi hot spot, Wi-Fi direct, DLNA, GPRS, EDGE and HTML browser. NFC, USB port, and Bluetooth sum up the rest of the data connectivity options. The presence of 3300mAh standard lithium-ion battery certainly commands respect and delivers a fine talk time and standby time performance with up to 25 hours for the former and up to 585 hours for the latter.

Operating system and UI

HTC One Max has an excellent sky-scraping 5.9-inch super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen that gives a resolution of 1080 by 1920 pixels. A pixel density of 373ppi in collaboration with 16 million colors provide for a richer and sharper display. The presence of HTC sense 5.5 interface makes for supreme display quality.

Other Features

HTC One Max has built-in amplifiers and stereo speakers that really boost the sound of the gadget and are useful for hearing music via music player. The earphones that are compatible with 3.5mm jack are blessed with the technology of boom sound dual front stereo speakers that enhances the bass quality. Watching videos is going to be a whole new experience on the 5.9-inch super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen and that too in high definition.

Camera

HTC One Max produces very good images in fact the best that we have seen from any HTC gadget till date with the help of 4 megapixels primary camera that comes with an awesome resolution of 2688 by 1520 pixels. There is auto focus and LED flash facility too, for the user gets to make simultaneous high definition video recording with image recording feature. The user also gets geo-tagging and face & smile detection for enhancing the worth of images. Secondary camera of 2.1 megapixels comes handy for making online calls and getting some face time.

Connectivity

HTC One Max can be used not only to access the web but also to access internet connection via Wi-Fi tethering method. The tethering facilities of the gadget include Wi-Fi Hot spot, DLNA, Wi-Fi direct and dual band. GPRS and EDGE features are there too that in combination with HTML browser, provide a downloading speed of up to 100Mbps and an uploading speed of up to 5.76Mbps.

Memory

HTC One Max has 16GB and 32GB as memory variants for internal memory while the external memory can be expanded to a whopping 64GB with the help of the microSD card slot in both the cases. RAM is impressive too with 2GB that would be more than adequate to play games or carrying out tasks.

Other Features

HTC One Max is a gem of a device for anyone who loves games with its massive screen and powerful quad core processor that are apt enough to run any similar content offered by Android app. The user can run desired apps as well like Viber, WhatsApp and games like Temple Run, Contra, Fruit Ninja and Virtual Tennis.

Battery

HTC One Max user can relax when it comes to the robustness of the gadget as the phablet lasts for a long time courtesy its 3300mAh standard lithium-ion battery. To be exact, the standby time churned out is up to 585 hours whereas the talk time goes up to 25 hours respectively.

Connectivity

HTC One Max has not compromised on any of the connectivity elements with NFC and Wi-Fi tethering being the highlights of this segment. The latter of the two has been discussed in detail in the internet segment while the former is a lightning fast way of data exchange with other devices. USB port and Bluetooth are also means for data transaction. For 3G network, the phablet operates at frequencies of 850, 900, 1900 and 2100MHz.

Other Features

HTC One Max when compared to Samsung Galaxy Note3 has a bigger display with 5.9 inches for the former and 5.7 inches for the latter. HTC One Max has a super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen while Samsung Galaxy Note3 has a super AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. Both the gadgets offer 64GB microSD card slots. HTC One Max has a 4 megapixels primary camera whereas Samsung Galaxy Note3 comes with a 13 megapixels primary camera. Secondary camera is 2 megapixels for Samsung Galaxy Note3 while the same is 2.1 megapixels for HTC One Max. HTC One Max runs on 3300mAh standard lithium-ion battery that overlaps the 3200mAh standard lithium-ion battery of Samsung Galaxy Note3.

Other Features

October 2013: HTC finally has its very own phablet named HTC One Max and is expected to come out before the end of this month. The device comes with a huge 5.9 inches super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen with 1.7GHz quad core processor and 2GB RAM. Android Jelly Bean 4.3 operating system is the software platform chosen, for the gadget looks magnificient and like a bloated version of HTC One mini. There is no official news on the price of the device but it is expected to be around Rs.40,000. Its highlights are as follows:

*        5.9-inch super LCD3 capacitive touchscreen

*        Android Jelly Bean 4.3 operating system

*        1.7GHz Quad core processor

*        2GB RAM

*        4 megapixels primary camera + 2.1 megapixels secondary camera

*        3300mAh standard lithium-ion battery

*        NFC + Wi-Fi tethering

One Max proves phones can be too big

With the new One Max, HTC officially enters the burgeoning massive-screened smartphone market. Equipped with an impressive 5.9-inch display that's bright, colorful, and sharp, the HTC One Max will certainly scratch the itch if you're hankering for an Android handset boasting a gigantic viewing area. Unfortunately the phone is much too big and heavy to be practical, and the One Max's fingerprint scanner while intriguing didn't operate as well as I'd hoped. Also, for its high sticker price ($299.9 Read full Review

HTC One max Review - Its Huge

Big phones are all the rage right now. Although tablets promised the kind of extra screen real estate that would increase productivity while still retaining portability, theres ultimately nothing more likely to be on your person than a phone. I wager that at least some of the success of the supersized smartphone form factor is still that a phone is ultimately always on your person, while a tablet still isnt.Today were looking at HTCs newest member of its flagship One series, and its largest, the Read full Review

HTC One Max review

The debate around giant smartphones is over. Manufacturers like Samsung, Sony and LG have amply demonstrated that it's possible to build a pocketable, phone-like device with a screen bigger than five inches. Now it's HTC's turn. But instead of re-imagining the much-praised One for this new category of device, HTC's designers have mostly just cloned it, while adding a drop of Miracle-Gro to produce a 1080p panel that measures 5.9 inches diagonally, versus the One's 4.7 inches.The result is the On Read full Review

HTC One max review

The HTC One max is the third member of the One family, joining the HTC One and the HTC One mini. This time, however, HTC pushes well into phablet territory with a device that offers a 5.9-inch display, wrapped in the aluminium body that characterises these handsets.But its arrival comes at a strange time. The HTC One has been on the market for 7 months and the One max, arriving with similar specs, could find itself dismissed as being out of date as soon as it goes on sale.Perhaps more importantl Read full Review
