iBall Andi 4.3J Black - Expert Reviews
iBall is well-known for launching a variety of handsets designed for specific types of consumers. It has now expanded its unique smartphone product line-up by launching the dual-battery iBall Andi 4.3j smartphone in India. This means that the phone features two battery slots, which can support two batteries (1630 mAh + 900 mAh), giving total battery backup of 2530 mAh. Thus, this smartphone will be an attractive purchase option for those people who are always on the move and need more battery life to suit their busy schedules. In addition to dual-battery capability, the Andi 4.3j is also a dual-SIM handset, with dual standby, so you can easily switch between two SIMs to make and receive calls. The smartphone features a 4.3-inch WVGA capacitive touch screen display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. It is powered by a 1 GHz Cortex A9 processor and runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It also sports a 5-megapixel rear-facing primary camera with autofocus and a 0.3MP front-facing secondary camera for making video calls. The Andi 4.3j also comes equipped with many other features such as a G-Sensor, a Proximity sensor and a Light sensor.
Operating system and UI
The Andi 4.3j runs on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is a bit outdated in today’s age of Android 4.1 Jelly bean handsets. Nevertheless, you get access to the Google Play Store which offers a plethora of apps and widgets that you can use to customize and personalize your UI experience.
As an Android smartphone, the Andi 4.3j is equipped with all kinds of multimedia features that you can think of. The music player is capable of playing MP3, WAV and AAC audio files while the video player can play MP4 video files. The Gallery app lets you view pictures taken through your camera and also other pictures stored on your SD card. A 3.5mm headphone jack is also provided using which you can play your music on any compatible audio device.
The Andi 4.3j sports a 5-megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash which takes pretty decent pictures even in inadequate lighting conditions. Video recording is also supported.
You can connect to the internet via GPRS/EDGE, 3G or even Wi-Fi. To browse the Web, you can either use the stock Android browser that comes pre-loaded with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, or you can download and install an alternative mobile web browser from the Play Store, such as Opera Mobile.
The iBall Andi 4.3j comes with 2GB of internal memory storage. In case you want more storage capacity to store your music, videos and photos, you can always expand capacity up to 32GB using a microSD card. The Andi 4.3j offers 512MB of RAM, which is just about enough to run most applications, though 1GB would have been preferred.
With Google’s Play Store at your disposal, there is almost no limit to the number and variety of applications, games, widgets and live wallpapers that you can download and install on to your Andi 4.3j. However, certain applications require Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or higher to install, for example- Chrome browser for Android.
Perhaps the most spectacular and notable feature of the Andi 4.3j is that it comes with not one but two battery slots, designed to hold one 1630 mAh standard Li-Ion battery and one 900 mAh standard Li-Ion battery. The two batteries (1630 mAh + 900 mAh) give a combined battery backup of 2530 mAh which is plenty for a smartphone of this caliber. Thus, the long battery life offered by the Andi 4.3j would mainly appeal to those people who are always travelling and do not have the patience or the time to charge their handsets. Plus, Android smartphones are known for the inadequate battery life offered by them and so, the Andi 4.3 is a godsend for Android fans.
The iBall Andi 4.3j comes with most of the connectivity options that you would see on any smartphone in this price range. These include GPRS/EDGE, 3G, Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS and Bluetooth with A2DP and EDR.
When we compare the iBall Andi 4.3j with the recently-launched Sony Xperia tipo, we see a variety of differences between the two handsets. First off, the Andi 4.3j is a dual-SIM and dual-battery handset whereas the Xperia tipo is neither. The latter features only a single 1500 mAh standard Li-Ion battery which pales in comparison to the Andi 4.3j’s combined battery power of 2530 mAh. Moreover, a Andi 4.3j sports a much bigger 4.3-inch display which significantly dwarfs the 3.2-inch display featured by the Xperia tipo. And the last factor in which the Andi 4.3j trounces the Xperia tipo is the camera: while the iBall Andi 4.3j features a great 5MP primary and even a VGA secondary camera for video calls, the Xperia tipo sports only a 3.15MP primary camera and no secondary camera, which means you cannot make any video calls. But the Xperia tipo has one major plus point that almost overshadows its other flaws- it runs on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, while the Andi 4.3j runs on the now-outdated Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
iBall recently launched the Andi 4.3j with dual-battery and dual-SIM capabilities. While the dual-battery feature is certain to draw a large number of interested consumers, the dual-SIM further enhances the value for money characteristic of this Android smartphone. However, one major drawback of the Andi 4.3j is that it continues to run on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is almost outdated in today’s age of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphones. It possesses the features needed to be an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone (except perhaps the inadequate 512MB of RAM) and will hopefully get an ICS update in the near future, but we cannot be too sure. iBall is known for launching Android smartphones with advanced features at affordable prices that are able to compete with phones launched by international brands like HTC, Sony and Nokia. Recently it had launched the Andi 5c, a budget phablet device that resembled the Samsung Galaxy Note but came at less than half its price.
