Idea ID 4000 - Expert Reviews
An exponential growth in numbers has taken place in the number of smartphone manufacturing firms that exist in the market. Most of the new entrants have already been established electronic firms or desktop manufacturers like Lenovo, Acer, HP, iBall etc. But one gets assured about the booming smartphone business when a telecommunications company like Idea decides to enter the segment. Although, Idea had already started its venture in the smartphone segment a year back, it did not follow it up with anything special. However, the Indian telecommunications brand has decided to cash in on its credibility as a smartphone maker and Idea ID 4000 is certainly a step towards it.
Idea ID 4000 is a dual SIM budget smartphone that features a 4 inches WVGA display that runs at a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. Users can access two tariff plans with the device for making and receiving calls with the company throwing in some special schemes for additional appeal. Before we go ahead and explore anything else about the gadget, as far as the exterior goes, Idea ID 4000 is certainly not impressive. Though there is nothing bad about the look, there is nothing distinctive either with the gadget providing an oval shaped appearance with rounded corners that should make it comfortable to hold in your hands.
The gadget comes with a dual-core processor clocking in at 1.2GHz frequency, which is not that powerful in today's context. Another parameter to consider is the fact that a lot of firms have started offering quad-core processors in and around the same price range as Idea ID 4000 comes, which may be a cause of concern for Idea. RAM does not blow us away either with 512MB that can always end up short for Android applications. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 is the operating system used and is behind the latest KitKat offering by a quite a distance. This would not have much effect on the kind of games and apps that the device can garner, but the Kitkat version is a lot more organized as compared to Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS.
The smartphone is available in the color of electric graphite and has 3G compatibility for both its SIM slots. The device has a 3.2 megapixels primary camera at the back but does not have a secondary camera which kind of takes the fun away from having 3G support, since there would be no video calling. The device has a 1500mAh standard lithium-ion battery that gives a healthy talk time and standby time.
Operating system and UI
Idea ID 4000 works with a 4 inches WVGA display that though lags a little on certain occasions, delivers neat images with a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels. There could be a problem of reflection from the side angles where the gadget starts to lose its pixel strength.
Songs and videos are an integral part of any device and Idea ID 4000 keeps its options open for the same with a music and video player in its kitty. Its sound quality is not the best amongst the smartphones of this range but we can suggest that earphones are a much better option with boosted treble and bass.
Idea ID 4000 features a 3.2 megapixels primary rear camera that has a resolution of 2048 by 1536 pixels. The images snapped outdoors are not that impressive although indoor images are decent enough. There is no provision for making video calls or snapping selfies as there is no secondary camera in the gadget.
Internet options can be explored through GPRS, EDGE, HTML5 browser and Wi-Fi. The gadget gives 3G compatibility, which would ensure that data can be downloaded at a fast pace and websites surfed with similar response speed as well.
Idea ID 4000 comes with 2GB of internal memory and has a 32GB external microSD card slot that can be applied as and when required by the user to augment the external memory. RAM is a respectable 512MB, which is not a guarantee for brisk pace but can handle everyday activities that an Android user is expected to execute.
Idea ID 4000 can garner various games and apps for entertainment and utility purposes. Folder locker, App locker, Dictionary, WhatsApp and Viber are some of the apps that the user can download from the Google play store. Android Jelly Bean 4.2 OS is a decent bargain for the price at which Idea ID 4000 is available and will provide a great Android experience to the users. Games like Temple Run 3, Contra, Subway Surfer, etc., make this smartphone worthwhile for gaming enthusiasts though limited RAM capacity does play spoilsport here.
Accurate figures for the talk time and standby time are not available for Idea ID 4000, but the presence of a 1500mAh standard lithium-ion power backup can get a fair share of the same and make sure that the device lasts for a reasonably longer duration. The smartphone may struggle during high intensity net usage and can run out of steam, sooner than later.
Idea ID 4000 brings a lot to the plate in the connectivity department including the likes of Bluetooth and USB port. There are GPRS, EDGE, HTML5 browser and Wi-Fi for accessing the web but no tethering facility. Users get to use two tariff plans with the gadget since there are two microSD card slots.
Idea ID 4000 mobile, when compared to Micromax Bolt A40, has a smaller screen with 4 inches for the former and 4.5 inches for the latter. Both the devices have a dual-core processor and 512MB of RAM, which keeps them at par although Micromax may be a little faster. Idea ID 4000 runs on Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system, which is far ahead of the Android Gingerbread 2.3 operating system that the latter device is saddled with. Both the gadgets have a 1500mAh standard lithium-ion battery but the talk time and standby time offered by Idea ID 4000 are much more. Both the smartphones have dual SIM facility with dual SIM support.
There is no secondary camera for Idea ID 4000 while Micromax Bolt A40 has a 0.3 megapixels secondary camera. Idea ID 4000 comes with a 3.2 megapixels primary camera, which exceeds the 2 megapixels primary camera of Micromax Bolt A40. There is 2GB of internal memory with Idea ID 4000 as compared to a meagre 75MB of internal memory offered by Micromax Bolt A40. There is a 32GB microSD card slot for the Idea device as opposed to no microSD card slot for the Micromax device.
June 29, 2014:Idea cellular has come out with Idea ID 4000, which is its latest entry level smartphone that offers a 4 inches display and operates on a dual-core processor. Priced at Rs.4,000, the gadget comes with Android Jelly Bean 4.2 operating system and 512MB of RAM. The device does not have a secondary camera but its primary camera of 3.2 megapixels should deliver decent images. Idea has introduced various schemes for the Indian customers in order to lure in more audience wherein, users would get 1.6GB of data for 3G users at Rs. 259 while for the new 3G users, the same would be available for Rs. 261. The highlights of the device are as follows:
